I agree with this statement. From a palette standpoint, toast goes well with more dishes as a side. Pancakes feel more like a main dish to order.

Here's the thing, and you hit on it perfectly. Pancakes are like a separate main dish. So what kind of crazy person would opt for basic ass toast when you have the option for a free extra main dish?

Because it wouldn't go well with the other main dish. You sound like the type of person who says 'it all ends up in the same place' to justify a bad combination of food. If that's you, that's you. However some of us like it when everything tastes good together.
