Why do people hate Cam Newton?

Yikes it's crazy that so many people attribute it to his skin colour, I thought football was bad at times but you'd never see shit like this about a typical white person's position or only white players being allowed to celebrate a goal. (I'm referring to football and not this handegg thing by the way.)

At QB? A position black players weren't even allowed to play for decades?? Never...stop it. You wasted typing all of that.

QB isn't always the most important player on the team. Why is AP offensive captain for the Vikes? its because he runs that offense. Emmitt Smith was a big factor in Dallas winning 3 championships in the 90s and Terrell Davis was named super bowl 32 MVP over Elway.

Cam Newton is crushing people because he has a great team around him and he is a
gifted athlete.

All of that is completely irrelevent to the point you are attempting to counter.

I've hated Cam since he took money at Auburn, probably raped a girl, and gave that shit-eating grin like he knew he wasn't gonna get caught. Anyway I'm still annoyed that he got away with it.

Has nothing to do with him being black. I think the NFL should encourage their players to be more emotive in general. I think the "infamous" Richard Sherman interview was one of my favorite NFL moments ever.

What? Are you just making up accusations?

Probably raped a girl? I googled "Cam Newton rape allegation" and couldn't find any official allegations.

What who said anything about most important player?? What are you talking about?! Do you know anything about NFL history? Speaking specifically about black players and the Quarterback position which kept them from being behind center because of racial stereotypes of not being intelligent enough.

Fuck. Re: the "rape allegations" -- It's my bad, and completely awful that I posted it. I think I got some stuff mixed up in my head and conflated him with another Auburn rape case. Unfortunately college football player rape allegations aren't as unusual as they should be, but that said I fucked up by tying it to Cam. I edited my other post. My sincerest apologies.

Should've just left it at his involvement with pay-for-play w/ Auburn. Sigh. Sorry again folks.

Getting paid to play college football is worth hating him over?

my favorite thing about cam is how he celebrates just a liiitle too long hahaha

just like an extra 2 seconds

its amazing

I think people are confusing "hate" with "sports hate." I mean everyone hates the successful guys. that comes with the territory.

But are we talking like... real hate? Because I don't think I could muster the energy to actually hate somebody just for playing sports. As a Colts fan I "hate" Tom Brady but it's not like I wish harm on him more than getting sacked or something. But if I actually met him or Cam I'd probably ask for an autograph or picture or something.

Literally mixed him up with another black guy.

Nope, not about race.
Not really, but if you're convinced of that, probably nothing I could say would sway you, so whatever.

Hey, nobody likes a cheater.

Oh wait you're a Pats fan nm ;)

timetokill

Auburn didn't pay him breh, it was Mississippi State. They paid his dad.

Auburn is legit clean.

Plus holy shit you just showed that you had to try and remember what he actually was "accused" of so you could warrant your hate. Keep the honey flowing pooh bear.

Deal with it boyo.

The sports hate is what I'm talking about. It's why I can't stand the drive by "because he's black" posts without explanation. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to hate someone on another team without being a racist but I'll let you decide.
Cam off the field seems like a great guy. When his celebrations got to 10 times the length of the icky shuffle and the picture taking during the game, then my sports hate for him became real.
Couple of the people I hated on and off the field were Bill Romanowski and Randy Moss. It was a struggle but I found the energy to hate a white person and I forgave Randy once he came to the Pats because I'm a huge hypocrite.
Cam's going to win in a route isn't he. =(

Sports fan usually hate opposing successfull players. Specially if they're cocky and mock everyone else. Extra specially if they're unstoppable on the field and are going to destroy your team.

So yeah, those are my reasons.

edit: Not hate per se, only "sports hate".

I'm a Colts fan tbh, but I'm obviously supporting Manning

The laptop thing nobody seriously cares about, right? I mean it's just a talking point people bring up, huh?

Some old dude lectured me at work yesterday about Cam Newton---I'm not into sports like at all so it's always awkward when I have to put up a facade like that since I feel like as a dude people expect me to instantly know about that---and that's all he talked about. Laptops! Honestly the stuff you read about professional athletes getting away with that seems extremely minor and a crime that is pretty forgivable and easy to make up for---especially since it was only one laptop instead of multiple ones, which usually seems how the story is framed.

I see so little hate towards Cam Newton these days. And you guys are calling that people hate him cause he is black I feel like all of you are being incredibly delusional.

Getting paid money he should have been making anyway if the system wasn't so fucked up isn't really "cheating". If you should hate anyone in that situation it's Auburn not Cam.

Man, I kinda understand the hate, but I'm on the opposite end, Cam is one of my favorite players in the league. His energy and exuberance is just infectious, I just can't help but grin when he's smiling and cheering on the defense and running up and down the sidelines rallying the fans.

Came here to post this. Although, as of late, he really has become a joy to watch in the NFL.

But my "hate" (strong word) stems from him taking money while at Auburn and hiding it.

So.. every other college athlete played by the rules but Cam couldnt be bothered with that and its not his fault? Cmon man. I know the system is flawed, but if everyone else can do it, so could Cam.

every team cheats, deal with it.

Lots of people are getting paid for college football. It's just not the right people. Can't hate anyone for trying to redirect that flow to where it probably should be going anyway.

AP is because a the vikings did not have a quarterback. We haven't had a good quarterback in since Brett Farve in 2009. That's the reason. AP adds more to our offense but he is not a complete substitute for a good quarterback. Also given how AP fumbles a lot, it is become more apparent that we need a good quarter.

So your argument is a worthless one.

Naw it's more like the NFL in general. When Tom Brady yells at a teammate its passionate. When Dez Bryant does it its he's crazy he needs to calm down etc.
I remember Dez getting chastising for yelling at his teammates and when the audio came out and he was yelling positive "let's go team" type of stuff, everybody was like "ohh..."

Exactly them kids should get fucking paid. NCAA making billions off them. Then you got all them networks that air it with all the damn ADS.

buh buh buh they are getting an education!! /s

anyone that has remotely done college sports at all knows it feels like a freaking job. I was running track for a DII school missed out on spring breaks my weekends gone and we got meal stipends which a lot of us kept for other stuff cuz broke.

I'm all for paying college athletes that compete at a certain level and/or they should have full health care even after they leave their schools after they play for a few years or more.

This amateurism shit is crap. You should only be considered an amateur at a HS level. College and up as they hit 18 or older they should be able to take on endorsements or whatever. They try to mask it up with freebies and shit and meal stipends but it def isnt enough especially when leagues are in cahoots with them to put an age limit on when athletes could join.

I remember Dez getting chastising for yelling at his teammates and when the audio came out and he was yelling positive "let's go team" type of stuff, everybody was like "ohh..."

This is a prime example of how people twist based on just how people look. Its crazy.

I think Cam kind of seems like a corny dude, but I do like watching him play and he seems like a decent guy, and I like that he is giving fits to Tennessee Mom.

It's because he went to Auburn.

Not everyone cares about SEC rivalries, the hate he's got since day 0 has been remarkable. Him being black has most of what to do with the hate.

with the millions NCAA, Auburn, every damn sponsor makes of college football, we are really mad he got paid chump change?

It is definitely racism.

And it is going to get worse after the Panthers curb stomp the Broncos. Taking race out of it no one likes when you beat the shit out of an old man.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. I will dance the magic dance when the Broncos lose and the Panthers send The Forehead to his early grave!!!

Ahem.

lol if a reason is "because he got paid in college" to hate cam, breaking news but every star athlete is getting paid while in college or to play for that school

its because hes black, thats pretty much it :/ smh merica

shame too because hes improved so much, hell just from last season hes made a big leap, believe in cam to bring the salty tears x rage inducing posts if they win

there will be so many firings x deleted accounts/tweets if the panthers win, i am ready

It's because he is black and has emotion on the field.

There is actually a massive difference in what white and black players are "allowed" to do on the field. As others have said, Brett Favre did everything Cam does and he was just having fun, a "gunslinger" who "was like a kid out there." People are fine with Russell Wilson because he has all the personality of a piece of cardboard.

The Florida laptop stuff, he's owned up to it. He hasn't hid from it. Live and learn.

Don't get me wrong, I hated his guts for celebrating first downs when he was 6-8-1 or whatever standing he was at last year.

7-8-1. IIRC they made the playoffs and won a game last year. That team was actually pretty good at the end of the year.

Anyone cover the "passionate black guy playing a traditionally white position" thing yet?

...okay good.

Dude is an amazing player and if he stays healthy could end up as one of the best ever.

Imagine if Cam wins, retires.

Peyton plays in 2016.

The salt factories will be working into OT.

I was legit worried about this when it looked like we might go undefeated.... Take his guaranteed money and marketing potential to do something that doesn't involve head injuries. He would have already accomplished literally everything a football player can in a career.

Wow, what's the point of discussion if every reply is "he's black"

The league is 80% black and the majority of its superstars are black. Stop the narrative trying to justify sports hate. Many of you clearly do not follow the league, thus you don't understand how passionate people are about their teams. If you beat my team and act cocky about it, chances are I can't stand you, if that player was traded to my team the next day I would love them. Cam is getting this attention because he is good, period.

The amount of "hate" he gets is laughably minuscule compared to Tom Brady, Big Ben , Eli, RG3 etc.

From my point of view Cam Newton was the most celebrated player in the NFL this season and will win the MVP.

It wasn't because he got paid in college, it was because his dad was farming out his recruitment to the highest bidder. The NCAA actually created the "Cecil Newton rule" to count parents as agents. It was a loophole that Cam and his dad helped to close.

Cam was playing the card the whole time like he didn't know that his dad was shopping him around to Miss State and Auburn. JLawokaygif
