Why do people like live music?

There's a band in Australia called george.. and although I haven't really seen them since their second album, I saw them regularly as they went through the stages of local indie band to full-blown national act.

They're the perfect mix of perhaps rock with jazz and blues influence and seeing them perform live is not equal to anything done in their studio recordings.

Another case in point, listening to Jeff Buckley sing is amazing.. seeing him perform with his band, being gelled together and just completely rocking everyone is what it's all about.

I listen to quite a lot of live music from time to time.. from Radiohead, to X Japan.. live music brings the best out of a band rather than be constrained to the act of a recording studio. Same can be said for any performance of musical art that you see.

Anyone that asks this question has a useless opinion on music.

I think it's obvious that the originator of this post listens to crappy music. I listen to tons of live music, and a lot of the time i prefer live tracks to studio cuts.

Is this a joke post? Maybe you need to find some bands with actual, you know, TALENT?

I think that about covers everything I could have possibly said.

this thread is so...
i mean going to concerts have always been amazing experiences for me...starting from lollapalooza 95/96, to watching foo fighters in nyc (some slutty girl kept pushing her ass on my groin all night...what could be better?)...to woodstock 99...and finally after a long break, curiosa fest this year.
of course in the middle there, i attended many open air free concerts in central park/prospect park...saw asian dub foundation, zakir hussein, the gotan project, burning spear and many other well known world musicians.
saw ravi shankar at carnegie hall, another amazing experience.
the music, the vibes you get from the others around you, the atmosphere...its all amazing. i feel a sense of unity.
of course it depends on how you take it/what you do...earlier i'd be upfront, moshing and jumping around like a maniac. during a metallica show, i was inside the circle and ran full steam at this rather large white dude, we met up in the middle...he stayed where he was, i flew off, luckily grabbed by my big ass friend, mario. physics learned, the hard way, conservation of momentum, P=mv, m1v1=m2v2.
then later on i became more relaxed and just sat back, sipped beer and enjoyed the mood.
i mean come on, its not just the music...its also the communal feeling, feeling of belonging, and thankfully most of the bands i saw live completely rocked their assses off on stage. only time that feeling got fucked was during woodstock 99, where a few assholes set off an event that ruined an otherwise amazing experience.

couldn't agree more. when the band you came to see starts playing a song, and you can hear the crowd singing as much as you can hear the vocalist, it seriously gives me a tingly feeling deep inside.

i've been to the last 4 ozzfests, curiosa, warped tour, seen APC 4 times, the mars volta twice, disturbed 4 times, chevelle twice, fear before the march of flames twice, my chemical romance 3 times, symphony x, dream theater twice, mudvayne twice, deftones, queensryche, dave matthews band, sparta, the ghost, the blood brothers twice, alexisonfire twice.

and i can't say i didn't enjoy the hell out of any of those shows. hell, besides the ozzfests, all of those concerts have been in the last 15 months. there is just nothing like concerts to me.

One word: atmosphere... Listening to music pumping from a cd through a tiny pair of speakers doesn't compare to a concert with the band whaling away while everyone zones out.

To those with a decent/good surround sound system: do yourselves a favor and get Eagles: Hell Freezes Over and listen to the concert in DTS. Absolutely one of the best live performances ever. Guarnteed to convert even the most stubborn live music hater.
