Why do people not listen to direct computer orders?

To any of you who've helped people with computers, this should seem familiar.

You - "Drag that icon into the box over here."
Person you're helping - "I don't need to drag it!" *double clicks and opens file*
PYH - "What's all this?! I'll just close this and I don't need to drag it!" *right clicks, exposes half a dozen seedy shell extensions*
You - "Suicide...boooth..."

This has happened all the time to me--and only in this type of situation. When you help someone with a computer related problem and tell them exactly what to do, they'll go off and try to show you how "smart" they are by doing it their way.

...but why, why do people do this?
