This isn't a shaming thread, just a genuine curiosity.
The detrimental health effects are pretty well known these days, and anti-smoking campaigns out in full force it seems. Are new smokers generally still young people? Are they pressured into doing it? Addiction after the occasional casual smoke? Conscious choice as an adult?
In my circle of friends, aside from a very infrequent cigarette at parties/outing, none of them have picked it up as a habit. Even in my general age group, regular smoking is not something I've noticed as a popular trend. Is today's youth picking up smoking as much as before? Are the majority of smokers holdovers from previous eras?
