I hadnt really listened to them outside of the stuff played on the radio but recently I acquired their first cd (i think its their first) and was blown away at how great it sounded. Im usually not big into music with pointless screaming but to me this was totally unique. Ive never heard better mood music in my life, it really gets you pumped and its varied enough to where all the songs stand on their own. Its not just an hour or so of the same crap.

2) I bet 90% of the people here never even listened to the 3rd album.
3) Vol. 3 is one of the most kick ass rock albums ever and this is coming from a very vocal Slipknot hater -- quite frankly, the first two were terrible.

Because they're garbage.
they get a TON of undeserved hate. gimmick or not, their first CD is VERY, VERY good for when it came out.
very awesome, in your face metal. they really went downhill after that, though in Vol. 3 they actually seem to want to get away from their "we're so hardcore" gimmick, and it actually works. Iowa, however, is one of the worst cds i've ever heard.

a good band if you count their entire discography? no. but their first cd was really good, and their most recent is above average, and that has to count for something. at least you can't label them total garbage.

Besides, if you have an issue with their masks, then just listen to Stone Sour (which is pretty much Slipknot-lite, since it features more than half of Slipknot, including Corey Taylor himself). Taylor is a fantastic singer too. Haters wanna' hate, lovers wanna' love...I don't really want, none of the above...Slipknot pisses on you.

I like probably a handful of Slipknot songs...And I have two of their albums. But my problem with Slipknot is that a lot of their songs are seriously just noise. I know that's a broken statement, but that's what a lot of it is. No real rythm, no good beat, just a slew of guitars, drums, and screaming that doesn't find harmony anywhere.

4) This I will grant you, somewhat. Joey Jordison did play drums for Satyricon, and Mick Thompson has demonstrable chops. The guys in this band have talent, but they continually squander it.

Nu-metal = Linkin Park, Disturbed, Trapt, etc. Slipknot doesn't fall into that genre. The style of music is completly different.
My favourite album of last year. I've listened to those songs way too much and I still can't get enough of them. The reason for the hate is mainly becuase of their masks and shit, and I get that, they are stupid. Too bad they can't just say "to hell" (pun not intended) with their satan masks because their hardcore fanbase will say they sold out. Fuck, no bands can vary themselves in the slightest without being called sellouts these days. The masks are dumb, but I listen to the music, and the music is what I love.dem said:

EDIT - I saw this because on my local rock station there's a show called "Midnight Metal" which plays nothing but metal, obviously. Too often though a song starts that has a really awesome intro, I get into the song, and then the singer comes in "ROAHAL RAFFA RAOAARA BARRA RARAYRARH RASHHARAHSHA RAEKL!!!!"
