I was just thinking about the forum, in that before coming here, I never visited any forums before. Well, I did frequent Daily Radar back in the day, but other than that, I never bothered.
What I really like about this place boils down to two things... simplicity and maturity.
The first is easy. I really enjoy the fact that there's only one forum for gaming. It seemed odd at first, but I like seeing threads I wouldn't otherwise care about, and happen to be helpful and/or interesting. I don't think I'd enjoy this place as much if it were filtered to fit each system. Also, because I'm on dialup, I feel like I can come on the forums and get all the latest gaming news much faster than waiting for websites to load each individual story.
The second, maturity... Well, perhaps there's just one thing I like about this place. Seriously though, I like the great variety of posters we have. Every base is covered, plus it's nice having a few guys who work in the industry around. After Daily Radar dissolved back in the day, I remember trying to blend into some other forums, but they never lasted more than a week. And of course, behemoth sites like IGN or GameFAQs forums may have their charm (is charm even the right word?), but it wasn't until stumbling to GAF that I became a true forum-goer again.
