I could see him thinking that in the early 90s (when after the whole "let's hide the fact that a lot of cartoons come from Japan" phase of the 80s companies were pushing anime as a "mature" alternative to child-oriented western fare, with stuff like Wicked City) but I can't understand why he'd think that nowadays. Unless the dude literally never turned on a television since 1999...

i have no problem with people getting off to whatever they get off with, as long as they don't violate their country's laws. The problem i have with it in the US is the blatant sexualization of teenagers in the media, along with the fact that said minors are developing faster than previous generations, yet finding them attractive is taboo.

America's child pornography laws are sane, Canada's idiotic.
In the states, child pornography is made illegal not because the images are considered indecent or offensive, but because child pornography is in essence child rape. Therefore pornographic fiction or pornographic drawings involving minors are legal in the united states. In Canada child pornography is considered to be any pornography depicting explicit content involving a minor, so not only is child pornography as it is known in the states illegal, but so is lolicon, written fiction or drawn images including children. Personally I don't care if it's illegal or not, I just think it's giving anime/manga a bad image. I wouldn't shed any tears if it suddenly disappears though.

I was just watching the intro of Mahou Sensei Negima to get an idea of that anime. It's being subbed by some 5+ groups! so I thought hey, it must be something special. It took less then 2 minutes for me to realize how generic and horrible it is, but what irked me was the fan service.

Now I don't mind it if it's a show about one since I could just skip it, and I actually like fan service in Ghost in the Shell (because it’s not overused and the show itself is awesome without it), but in Mahou Sensei Negima the anime is about MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. WTF? And no, they don’t have bodies that make them look 20. The 5 minute preview was filled with shots of half naked 9 year olds. -__-

Keep in mind this is a show subbed by fansubber’s who are mostly in college. It’s not being watched by kids.

It’s just disturbing, that’s all. I don’t care if you like it , but I care that it is bringing down anime.

I don't know anyone who finds hentai to be synonymous with anime. Just like the porn industry has nothing to do with hollywood (except the occasional celebrity sex video), hentai has nothing to do with anime (unless it's hentai made around an anime)
