Why I like the DS

But after looking at the gorgeous PSP screen how can you look at those tiny DS screens?

Easy. If you don't look at the screen, you get your ass kicked in Megaman Zero games or you won't be able to know if you got a soul or not (I play Castlevania with sound turned off lately). :p

And yes, multiboot games do indeed rock.

Question: Will I enjoy Castlevania DS's story if I never played through Aria of Sorrow? Does it recap what happend and whatnot? Do you even need to know what happened?

Yeah, there's a recap. Or rather, you can read about the events and characters from the previous game.

if you wait until january you will be able to play AoS on the cheap thanks to the double pack.

Not really the only thing you need to know is that
he was to become Dracula, and that did not happen.
other then that nothing is really needed to know.

At least they don't ghost like mad, which btw isn't gorgeous at all. Micro has the most gorgeous screen. And this is not up for debate.

...
Console available in many colors.
DS USB Wifi dongle will also work on Revolution.
DS/Revolution connectivity has potential.
Great stereo speakers.
...

For the most part, it does an alright job of bringing you up to speed. Not necessarily in the dialog so much, but moreso in the "library" function in the menu.

Yes. Because your opinion=fact, right?

Anyway another reason why I like the DS is for it's free wi-fi service.

LOL...my troll attempt worked.

On a serious note I have been looking at getting a DS since Im finding the PSP library dry. I know there has been alot of good games out and alot more coming. The comment about the screens was actually a thought that came to mind when I was trying to decide between the 2. Now its seems that i will own both.

The only debate is the Brighter screen for GBA SP. Honestly it's the same as micro but bigger, Those two machines have amazing screens.

Micro has better screen than PSP? Now I've heard everything. Someone should alert Sony, though - they're paying extortionist prices for the inferior screeen - use the Micro one instead!

No, because fact=fact.

Okay, I'll glady wait as you gather all the facts and present them clearly, Mr. Wright.

What screen you prefer is completely subjective, so good luck on those "facts"

micro has a lot going for it as far as being a better screen. better pixel density, brighter pixels, less influential backlight, no ghosting, etc.

really the ONLY thing the PSP screen has going for it (from a technical aspect) is its size. every other factor the GBM wipes the floor with it.

Bollocks - what about higher res, more colours on screen? GBM can only display 512 out of a maximum 32,000 colours on-screen.

I believe higher res was what he meant by 'size' and color density is GPU dependent. Not the Micro screen's fault it's displaying a GBA :P

more colors on screen has nothing to do with the screen itself and the psp is higher rez because it is larger (which I covered) but the GBM has a much higher pixel density meaning it has more detail per sq. inch than the PSP's screen.

If only the DS could come with the same screen as the new GBA SP+, there wouldn't be much complains about the screens.

That said, I have 12 games on it and counting.

the alarm clock on it kinda sucks. Not nearly loud enough if you are using it to wake you up =/

On the contrary, I find it pretty loud at full volume. it's served me well as an alarm clock up to this point.

What I DON'T like is the fact that if I forget to put the volume up, I'd have no way of knowing until I wake up late the next day.

I'd really like to get my hands on Metroid pinball. Maybe I should just import it. How do you like it?

So, uhm, when it goes off and you hit the screen, is that a snooze function or will it actually shut it off completely? If so than that might explain why I was always late these last few days.

Because it makes me really appreciate owning a PSP and not settling for a miserable library, low resolution, subpar internet support, and paleolithic 3D.

Huh? You know you can adjust the volume on it right? I use it occasionally and put the volume at mid-level and find it perfectly fine.

Unless of course you wake up each morning in the middle of a riot.

It becomes a snooze function.

You must have a problem with your speakers as my alarm is really loud. I'm using it since last december and I never missed a wake up. Very convenient to use in the dark as well, no button, only the backlid touch screen, very nice feature.

People. The GBM and PSP screens both have their strengths and weaknesses from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint. It can be argued that neither is truely superior than the other. And that's the only fact. Done.

Why I like the DS:

It gives Nintendo fans a glimmer of hope when their dreams will be crushed after the Revolution is released.

The DS angers me because publishers are deciding they only want to spend 10 dollars on making a portable game so they are supporting the unit in bulk. Which means I have to buy one eventually because there are now games I want to play. But I cannot give in to inferior hardware.

Wrong on both accounts - official PSP and GBM screen specs - from the official Sony and Ninty homepages, respectively:

PSP screen specs said:
Display: 4.3 inch, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD, 480 x 272 pixel (16.77 million colours), Max. 200 cd/m2 (with brightness control)

Micro screen specs said:
Screen:

Size: 2" (diagonal)
Resolution: 240 x 160 pixels
Colors: 512 out of a maximum 32,000 colors
Screen Type: TFT with adjustable back light
Manufacturer: Sharp

To say the GBM has NO ghosting is wrong, there sometimes a bit ghosting, I experience it only at Wario Ware Twisted though...

Hell yeah. Great system.

It's all about the games for me, and the DS is were its at.
Heres a short list of games that I will be able to play on my Ds and not on my Psp.

-Mario kart
-Animal Crossing
-Sonic rush
-Children of Mana
-FF3
-FF:CC
-Super Mario bros DS
-Age of Empires
-New Castlevania
-New Zelda :)
-Metroid Hunters :)

These are just to name a few.
And most importantly. The Ds can play gameboy advance games so that means i can play my most anticipated game ever.

MOTHER 3!!!!!! :D

Only nintendo games can make you want to tear up.

the psp is better in these areas?????

Library, yes.

I know it's a matter of taste, but it's so completely one-sided to me the other way (not that the DS has no good games, but not anywhere close to the PSP) that whenever this gets brought up as some sort of incontrovertable fact, it makes me wonder how the groupthink on this board works. PSP has a remarkable library. That it doesn't suit all tastes is not debatable, but then, neither is that debatable for the DS.

I'll give you the internet support, at least as the new batch of games comes out.

Back to the love.

I have had more fun with just Ridge Racers than the entire DS library combined. Throw in Hot Shots Golf, Wipeout Pure, GTA:LCS, X-Men Legends 2, Burnout Legends, Darkstalkers, and Dynasty Warriors, and there's simply no competition. Period.

The PSP has more games that support both internet and infrastructure play.

How anyone with any basic taste or discretion can support that 256x192, low-poly, pre-DX3 nightmare Nintendo has foisted upon consumers is beyond me, but I'm just a simple man who loves games, not gimmicks.

i love the ds because i hate freedom.

Pre-DX3? But DX5 was the first decent DX offering...:(

Umm... it doesn't have anything to do with the screen itself, the color depth I mean. It's not a technical aspect of the screen, it's a spec derived from the hardware's capabilities. You really think the GBM's screen wouldn't be capable of displaying more than 512 different colors on screen if it were attached to a more capable device? Be a bit more adept at looking at hardware.

And btw, the specs you listed actually support his claims that the GBM has better pixel density...

EDIT - And someone tell Drinky he's off-topic (even though technically this post is too... yeah... umm... *runs*)

I actually had the numbers all worked out on pixels per inch but my boss called me and I accidentally erased the calculator results.. the GBM has something like over 3 times the pixel density of the PSP.
