Why is Dave Bautista an actor?

I really like the guy, but I sort of disagree.

He's still a bit flat / one-dimensional as an actor and that character isn't any different.

I think overall, by a lot of people, Bautista is over-rated as an actor.

I am not sure what is supposed to be so amazing about his Blade Runner performance for instance.

He isn't exactly Daniel Day-Lewis, but he is far from the worst actor I have ever seen.

I enjoy his stuff I come across them. I heard he is apparently really good in the new M. Night film

He's the best wrestler that became an actor

I'm curious if the general public actually likes this guy and his acting?

people must really enjoy him or else why would hollywood be shoving him down our throats

How much longer will we have to endure this guy on screen
If memory serves, he was the first if not the only person to genuinely criticize Disney for canceling James Gunn. Other cast members defended him a bit, but I don't think anyone was more vocal than Dave Bautista, which was a real potential risk to his career at the time. After that, I'll gladly watch him in anything. Putting people over his career? He's like the anti-John Cena.

He saw The "Dwayne Johnson" Rock, he saw John Cena, and he said, "I can do better than that." And he did.

To clarify, I've seen John Cena and The Rock both do great work. But Bautista's a better actor.
For real. Can you imagine John Cena playing that character in the opening of Blade Runner 2049?

From what I’ve seen, he’s more versatile than the Rock or Cena. Put on some glasses and he can play an intellectual.

Though I wouldn’t consider him a “first row” actor who could hold his own franchise. The Rock is really, REALLY charismatic and made some cool movies. He can hold a movie together with his presence.

Bautista, I don’t know yet, because I haven’t seen a movie with him in the lead. As a supporting actor, yeah he’s bautastic.

Yeah, Cena hates people, especially kids.

Granted, you might have been referring to some specific wrestling thing which I don’t follow, but I did hear about the above which makes him seem like at least a decent person.

Most likely the "Bing Chilling" thing where Cena talked about Taiwan and then quickly back peddled once China got angry and he released that video pandering to China to promote the next Fast & Furious movie he was in.

As for Batista, he's a decent actor who seems to actually have a good agent that gets him roles to allow him to show that more, Blade Runner alone showed he has more range than The Rock.

I actually thought he was great as Drax in the first Guardians, but then later on his character just became a joke.

Personally, I think it takes a lot of balls to change careers so late in life. You really have to want it. And he wanted it badly enough he succeeded. We should applaud him, not question him.
I think he hasn't made great career moves all around, but he appears way more genuine than The Rock or John Cena.

I second this article, great read and answers OP's question completely.
Here’s a good interview with Bautista. Pretty inspiring.

Oh, and check out Final Score, it's a fun little vehicle for Bautista, and a solid entry in the Die Hard genre (among those like Sudden Death, Air Force One etc):

He's got a dumb ego but what actor doesn't.

So far I've found his performances entertaining. Remember he doesn't write or direct the movies.

He works for me in roles like Blade Runner 2049. Quiet, hulking, but overall normal looking dude. I think he can play into the subdued manual laborer thing well.

I usually shit post a paragraph of lame puns in threads like these and contribute nothing to the discussion, but honestly, I'm tapped out. He's getting to the age where acting over athleticism makes sense, right? One-fall and he could be in for a lame time. I don't actually know how movies featuring him have performed, though. Did Batista Bomb any lately? Either way, I mark for Blade Runner. Vintage Batista.

I'll leave now.

He did the smart thing and got out of wrestling while his body is still functioning. How John Cena still wrestles is beyond me.

Haven't seen glass onion yet but he was good in hotel Artemis as well. Glad he wants to expand his range as an actor.

Exactly

The Rock does the same thing he was doing in wrestling. Bautista actualy try drama, horror and etc. He is way more versatile, and pretty good in everything he does.

Cena is ok, I guess. But also never leaves his comfort zone.
Did you see peacemaker? It's so good. Cena is awesome in it and plays a vulnerable tough guy. Is that what he does on the WWE? Either way it's a good show to binge

He was acting throughout his wrestling career now he just does it with more clothes playing different t characters.
I mean yeah, any professional wrestler worth watching is acting his ass off. Spoiler: Macho Man Randy Savage didn’t talk like that in real life.

I really liked him in Knock At The Cabin
Yeah, he was pretty much the high point of the film for me. He's got the chops to do well if he's given the opportunity. The Rock just plays "The Rock" in every movie and I'm kinda bored by it, to be honest. Bautista's got range, and I've yet to see him in something where he's felt anything less than great.

He was great in blade runner and guardians of the galaxy. There are tons of worse actors in Hollywood getting bigger roles than he does. He is also a better actor than he was a wrestler in my opinion.

He's a good actor, a lot of the wrestlers are great on stage but bad or horrible in films. Besides starring in films & tv shows beats performing on the wrestling stage at 50+ and dealing with more and more frequent injuries.

I like him more than the Rock. Bautista seems to have a smidge of vulnerability to him. For his look he has good range.

He's easily the best ex-wrestler actor and also better than some of the popular Hollywood dudes who play the same exact role in every movie.
