Why is everyone on Johnny Manziel's ass??

You always ignore the same thing: quit putting yourself out there in the public eye with your "look at me" attitude.

As a team with such a terrible recent history YOU should be the one seeing the issues with this, not me. This is not how you fix the Browns.

Yeah because he does nothing to put himself out there. he knows what he is doing and he enjoys the spotlight and it will be his demise in the league.

So you want him to be recluse like jeter? ( I'm yankees fan in all honesty hes type boring with his politically correct nature but he's the goat of nyc ) I understand JF is not everyone cup of tea but people jump on him for the silliest things, but that's problem with living in the social media era.

All I know is that he's gonna out during the offseason so he most definitely hasn't had time to study the playbook or take football seriously

I don't understand why people thought he was good in CFB. Mike Evans was the best that A&M had to offer(although, he was kinda shitty in the last preseason game), but for some reason all the focus was on Manziel.

Pittsburgh fans gotta agree it's great to have somebody this good to hate though mirite

i need this explained in console war terms. is this like if the exclusive MS tomb raider game was having dev troubles and sony fan boys wanting it to fail?

The media likes to build people up and tear them down. It's happened over and over and over. It let's them create the news instead of just reporting it. That said, if Manziel looked more like RG3 or Cam Newton and was doing the shit he is doing the entire country would be tearing his ass apart.

ESPN's ability to manufacture a topic that draws ratings is truly remarkable. Their teams are good at looking at the early numbers and then successfully projecting who will go farthest with their push behind them.

If ESPN started a pro wrestling league, they'd knock McMahon out within five years. They do a better job at creating heels and faces, and sustaining pushes in the face of crowd disinterest, than WWE has done in nearly 20 years.

If the NFL fines Manziel for flipping the middle finger, does that mean players will get fined whenever the network's audio picks up a player swearing on the field? Camera was just on him at the wrong time, and I am sure obscene gestures escape the cameras all the time.

The NFL actually started fine players for inappropriate language. On and off the field.

i feel a bit sorry for him.

he hasn't said or done anything outrageous, it doesn't seem from this distance that he actively courts the attention and he get an unbelievable amount of coverage.

he is probably uncomfortable with it too. poor bastard can't take a shit without people commenting on it, dissecting how he did it, why he chose to do it where he did, was the stall he used in the facility a special one, is there significance that Hoyer used a different stall two days earlier, what the O line thought of his poop, did they find the smell offensive, was it something a rookie should do. what the coach thought, and special comments from Jaws, Chris Carter, Golic etc on how they used to poop and rookie pooping etiquette.

I mean Brain Windhorst has a career covering LeBron, maybe Sal could move up from Philly and ride Manziels ass for his whole career.

fuck me. i watch sportscenter and it is out of control.

By everyone I mean every sporting outlet.

Seriously, today the browns have a pre season game against the redskins, and every time Manziel does something I get a notification about it. It doesn't even have to be anything sports related. When he went to Vegas, all I saw on ESPN was "Johnny football goes to Vegas" etc.

What's the obsession with this guy? geez
You should read/watch non-US outlets than. Noone cares (or knows) about him.

That doesn't really happen in sports. They avoid real criticism of guys on the rise to stardom. They are invested in creating stars. Colin Kaepernick's play is not scrutinized. Something irrelevant is covered to fill the hour on a Wednesday. When a guy is at the top, yes, they will play the pro/con game to fill airtime. When I guy slips from the top they just move on to hype up and promote the new hot something to cheaply go for the LCD viewers.

He gets hate because he comes off as a petulant man-child who seems to think he's entitled to millions and a starting QB job just because he was successful in college.

He shows no signs of leadership, humility, or maturity. He has elevated himself into a position that is defined by being a role model and a leader and he displays neither of those traits.

He's the anti-Tebow. Aside from the whole big Christian thing which I wasn't a fan of, Tebow was the epitome of what a young QB should be to fans and to teammates.

He's overly hyped, and a mediocre rookie QB so far. In just about any other team with receivers that weren't made up of flaming trash, he might actually be able to learn something. But his attitude in interviews with teams tanked his stock, his antics after being drafted did nothing to help, and now most NFL fans are happy as shit their teams didn't draft him.

So now he will suck it up with the Browns for a few seasons, then vanish and become another washed up bust level QB that uses his former fame to try and land jobs cooking steaks at Applebees because he faked his way through college.

I don't doubt he faked his way through college, but he comes from old Texas oil money so even after he Ryan Leaf's himself he won't have to get a real job.

It is only ESPN that has crafted and forced this large narrative on the mystique of Johnny Manziel. They are pushing constantly toake him a thing just like they did for Tim Tebow. Occasionally NFL.com plays into it but only briefly from time to time.

But overall the interest is purely manufactured. I just want to see the man play cause mobile QBs are exciting. This other nonsense is just to keep the views/clicks coming.

The media wants Manziel to screw something up so they can talk about it and whip everyone into a frenzy.

Poor Cowboys man. That was their spot. Romo :(

edit: Favre is still king though. Tebow had a nice short run but Bret Favre. BRET FAVRE.

Why does the media like him? Because he's a polarizing figure. He draws ratings, so they keep beating that drum to get more ratings, and so on. It's no worse than how Tebow was rammed down the throats of everyone at ESPN to work him into any broadcast, no matter if it was unrelated. Those were the marching orders. I think Manziel is the same story.
