Why is it so hard to find gum without...

...fucking aspartame in it. I don't want to ingest formaldhyde, so I'm trying to cut down on all aspartame in my food. Is it the demand for sugar free gum to blame. Here's an idea, brush your teeth and stop relying on gum to do the job.

And how's surcralose, I seen Dentyne had it, but I'm sure I can trust it.

However, if I can just get some gum made with some standard sugar, that'd be great.

Meh, aspartame and MSG are two ingredients that have an overly bad rep. I love the fact that anti-MSG websites rely on scientific data from the 50s that were conducted on lab rats. During those experiments, scientists would basically inject MSG directly into the rats bloodstream, until their blood was saturated with the salt. Surprisingly, the rats died! Wha...you mean turning an animals blood into syrup will kill it? Wow, I never! Clearly, eating several GRAMS of MSG per meal is the equivalent of having several HUNDRED grams injected directly into the blood of a rat /rant

Xylichew.

It's pricey but it's good. Also, gums that use sorbitol rather than sugar or aspartame are good.

I also like Black Black, the caffeinated gum from Lotte but those are only available at Japanese groceries.

If you're looking for sugar laden gum, just get Bubbalicious / Hubba Bubba or whatever the fuck those candies catered to little kids are called nowadays. ;)

I don't like anything with aspartame in it just because aspartame tastes like ass. Is that a valid enough reason?

AFAIK, aspartame does not contain formaldehyde itself. Formaldehyde is a metabolite. But it gets turned to methanol first. All iirc/afaik of course. So you might try drinking ethanol so the alcohol dehydrogenase is kept busy while the methanol leaves. :D

Agreed. Some people suffer from headaches to extreme fatigue after eating MSG but for everyone else its no worse then salt. In the Aspartame tests rats were given a 2 lifetimes supply within 48 hours, the FDA is thinking about redoing the tests.

:) I didn't ask for a reason--that post was just an excuse to expell some of the knowledge I learned in high school from my brain.
