Why the f is Reddit so rigid?

I made an account there 4 days ago and ever since then, every single topic I create gets either insta deleted by an automod, or gets deleted an hour later by a real mod. Same goes for any comment I try to make. I get a message from an auto mod telling me that I am not allowed to post because I am too new.

So, let me see if I understand this about reddit: You get karma for good posts upvoted which enables you to post at other sub reddits, but reddit and these sub reddits will not let you post because you have no karma which reddit and these sub reddits will not let you get in the first place unless you do?

Am I stupid or is this bullshit designed to gate keep everyone out in a catch 22 situation?

I could understand if my comments were trolling bullshit, but none of them were. I only have interest in the various gaming related subs, but they all keep kicking me out like there is a big ass bouncer at the door.

It depends on what the content of your comment
/Post is and the rules of the subreddit.

Follow the rules and your post will stay. Don't be an edgelord if that's what you think Reddit is all about.

I have had nearly ever reply posted removed. Everything ranging from Lore related questions, comments thanking users for sharing their fanart submissions, comments asking for opinions on scenes in games. I don't waste my time or others time with idiocy online because there is too much of that already.

Reddit is not worth your sanity. When I tried making topics for game ideas or questions, it was always full of shitposters who didn't contribute anything to the topic. That site rewards bad behavior, so your stuff probably got reported for god knows what

Cancel your account while you still have your sanity. The mods/admins are insane there and you'll never know what got you banned as they have incredible double standards. You'll be walking on eggshells otherwise and wake up sweaty with anxiety at nights.

I just haven't had that experience. I'm sorry you have, OP. Almost every comment or post I've made had gone through (except for the times I didn't follow their rules).

I had a similar experience. Anytime you would ask a question, usually the first 5-10 responses were stupid "yo mama" type quips that weren't even funny before I got a legit response. Now, I just use AI for all my gaming questions. It's great!

Every time I use reddit I wonder how it ever became so popular. The layout is so unreadable. Ditto for Discord. Maybe I'm just too programmed by traditional forums as being a correct layout.

OP, I think it depends on the sub and presumably it's a blanketed effort to curb spam/bots/low effort shitposts. I do agree that it can be quite annoying when you try to post something that you believe is contributory and beneficial to that sub and it just gets auto deleted by a bot wand it's why I don't even waste time trying to post anything to already popular subreddits. Less popular and up and coming subs seem less bad about this, so I tend to contribute to them.
They just drove that fox sanctuary lady to suicide a couple days ago. Not a great place.
Do you have more details about this? I'm trying to read about it online, but all I'm seeing is that the bullying came from people she knew and peers from other animal sanctuaries? What ?

I got a post deleted on a Wednesday because you weren't allowed to ask technical / for help on a Wednesday.

Or something. But…

The fucking ironic thing is, I wrote the post on the Saturday (not even realising this was a thing) but some dip shit saw it on the Wednesday and deleted it and warned me if I did it again I'd be out of the sub.

I have no fucking idea what drugs this person was on.

They are run by people that do not welcome free thought. Just parrot the talking points.
Hey now, I still run /r/gaming, and co-created /r/Games, and I welcome any and all discourse there. It's pretty hard to get banned from any of my subs unless you're a legit spammer.

That said, reddit admins have cracked down on a lot over the last 3-4 years. It's not the same site it used to be.

I guess if anyone here ever has trouble with /r/gaming, let me know. But that subreddit is mostly for memes at this point anyway. It's not as much of a discussion-heavy subreddit.

Why has the R/Games banner been nothing but Trans and Gay Pride controllers for a long time?

While I created that sub, I actually left that moderation team quite a while ago since I didn't have enough time to dedicate to it, so I couldn't tell you the exact reason, other than I bet the mods there are just trying to make a statement or be outwardly inclusive. Could also be for pride month, I'm not sure.

AFAIK, it doesn't affect the content or discourse on the sub, though. I've never personally paid attention to that.

Reddit used to be a super-forum that wasn't as good as traditional message boards, but its strength was the wide variety of stuff you could talk about. Nowadays, it's just a social media platform, and like all social media platforms, it's an echo chamber that emphasizes things that increase engagement (politics, controversy, etc.).

The best use for it now is as a tool, like Stackoverflow. It's serviceable for asking questions and for staying up to date on stuff. If you do want to engage in discussions there, it's better to stick to smaller, more niche subreddits. They typically don't have the same problems that plague Reddit as a whole, like overbearing moderation and shitposters.

Had followed loads of subreddits in the past, made a fairly bland comment more recently in the Joe Rogan subreddit (didn't even follow it) and within 10 minutes I got a bunch of notifications (8 or 9 I think) saying I'm banned from various subreddits for interacting with the JRE subreddit.

Imagine being such a pillock that you have a need to actively enable a feature that bans people who merely engage with a discussion related to a person you don't like; and not just that but, with zero context.

JRE subreddit is mostly very negative toward Joe Rogan, so being auto banned for posting there on moral grounds is fascinating.

The only use I've ever had for Reddit is that you can basically google anything "+ reddit" and at least you get results written by actual humans instead of these useless SEO spam sites, which can be usefull when looking up specific tech issues.

Other than that though it sucks. It's ugly, always begging you to download the app, I don't like the formatting, everyone is hyper sensitive, you mostly get ignored if you are a new user, most subreddits are run by crazy mods and , regardless of topic, seem to just be overrun by the most toxic and "umm ackshually" type people in the community.

where can I find this AI?

ChatGPT? Very useful, especially if you tell it to search the web and provide the sources of the answer. Grok is another alternative, but from the little I've used it I still prefer ChatGPT, although Grok gives a more detailed answer.

And Reddit, I deleted my account the other day, I hardly used it and the vast majority of topics that interest me I already follow on X.

Some subreddits are better than others but the upvote/down vote system is just way too easy to abuse. No doubt bot farms and AI make a big portion of that website and control narratives. There are tons of mentally ill children as well that go through your whole post history and report you as suicidal because they don't like your views.

Some subreddits are good, but the mainline ones are absolutely trash and the community as a whole is pretty toxic. Reddit use to be a really amazing site and it's sad to see. Really hoping that Digg can have a comeback.

Something like that happened to me twice in row. On one of the two cyberpunk subs, I shared a video of my V's character creation. it was instantly deleted by an auto mod. I contacted the mods asking where I went wrong, and they responded and said it seems like the body of my post did not go through, only the youtube link. Fair enough, So I remade the topic again and come back an hour later to find out that an actual mod deleted this one because" V creation videos can only be posted on Monday"

me: why the hell did you not tell me that the first time then, asshole? is what I was thinking.

Don't sweat it. Seriously, those people are bottom of the barrel. Only Resetera is a worse place.

The girl in question.

I'm still fuming about this. There was an entire subreddit devoted to spreading hate and false information about Saveafox sanctuary and Mikayla. She took it all very personal and it definitely could've been one of the main factors leading to her suicide. Of course it's gone private now in case of her husband may want to take the cyberbullying case to court.

It's baffling that stuff like this is acceptable and mods aren't responding to such pure evil, but write something mean about the rainbow crowd and you're going to get quickly banned from the entire reddit.
