I don't think MGS3's trailer was too bad (don't remember it much), but the first two? OMGWTF? You think it's a case of people not 'getting it'? People only like the first two trailers because of their movie-like production values. They're as bad as any summer blockbuster trailer or illogical anime. I've only played the first MGS, but the story is just terrible (I will gladly explain if anyone is interested). Indeed there is style in some of the characters, but they nevertheless remain shallow and hackneyed.
Compare them to movies. They don't hold up at all. I supposed it's nice that someone in videogames wants to be a movie director and is bringing that style to games, but there's nothing unique or meaningful to his storytelling. In anime and videogames, you often get lots of character, nothing else.
That said, this thread was obviously a mistake. It should be obvious to anyone why people like this stuff. That's why movie studios make trailers the way they do. Most people feed right into it. I'm sorry, but it's low art.
