Wii Exploit Found

"...it looks like you can now chalk up yet another milestone, as an exploit has reportedly been discovered that lets the console run homebrew without a modchip. To do that, however, you'll apparently need a copy of Zelda: Twilight Princess..."

Another LINK

Searched and found nothing.
TP Wii sales to sky rocket.

Firmware doesn't change how the games run so I'm not sure this can be stopped with a FW upgrade.

Interesting. I love a healthy homebrew scene personally, it made Xbox an incredible machine to own.

It is perhaps worrying for Nintendo though.

LOL, the link you posted doesn't work for me. :P

I know. The two articles you linked were blogs that just say "HEY GUYS A WII EXPLOIT WAS FOUND," and then they link to that page, where you should have linked in the first place, since it is the original source for this news.

Er... the photo I'm seeing appears to be from the GameCube version of Twilight Princess, unless I'm nuts. Isn't that the button art they use for the GC "A" button?

Good point. Yes it is. I know the button in the Wii version doesn't look like that.

More than likely fake, then. Although who knows.

I don't really care about homebrew/pirating, but what does this say for import games? Possible to run them?
Yeah, I'd like an import solution for the Wii already. I'd be playing We Love Golf if one existed.

That is but the pics at tehskeen are definitely Wii version

Checking the other site...

So, at this point, a private group of folks say they hacked a save file to crash the Wii and run "four lines fo code".

That's either going to peter out, turn out to be false, or make life really, REALLY interesting for the next year.

(Picture removed)

Yup.

Does this also mean that pirated discs will also work without a modchip? If this means there's going to be new firmware every time I turn on my Wii, I'm gonna be pissed.

Someone would need to write a loader. Its concievable certainly.

Also, I wouldn't hotlink that sites images if I were you. Just in case the story gets attention and they feel like being funny.

GameCube was hacked a long time ago. I remember hearing reports of people ripping textures from GC games about a week after the first ISOs appeared on the net. I think I saw a vid of someone playing TP with replaced BGM.

Someone probably put this pic together when TP came out, literally wondering when the Wii version was going to be hacked. And then Engadget or whoever pulled the pic out of their archives as a stock photo.

WiiMC plox. I don't care about HD and Dolby digital, so a cheap & tiny box such as the Wii, controlled with the pointer-like Wiimote, outfitted with USB ports for external devices (storage and otherwise).... it would be a perfect mediacenter.

Ah well, if that's ever going to happen, it will take quite a bit of time. One can dream, though.

Btw, How do u see the difference between Wii version and Gamecube version?
GameCube has a big green "A" button (aka, the Win button) and a little red "B" button. Wii has a white "A" button (still the Win button), and as seen in the TehSkeen pics, a white rectangular "B" trigger.

Also, the Wii version is widescreen and inverted.

One of those pics shows a fairy, the wii remote pointer in it.

It's still early days but I hope some sort of region unlock comes out of this, or we are going to hear nothing about it like the lego star wars hack a few weeks back now.

Oi Hackers,

YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!

GET REGION FREE WORKING FIRST FFS

Then you can work on getting your shitty Atari emulators or run Linux or what other nerdgasm shit you have to do.

Fucks Sake

The thing about that one is that it requires a mod chip.
I myself don't feel like putting a mod chip in my system.

How is this bad for Nintendo? Wii sales skyrocket past the top of the universe oppose to just the atmosphere, and more potential software buyers.

I'm serious, I dont know much about homebrew besides PSP, and even than not that much.

Currently only runs 4 lines of code. Don't expect emulators or homebrew apps anytime soon.

Probably not, for now, a region lock circumvention on the other hand...

Yum, blood..

I think you mean "enabling folks to pirate more easily".

(Yes, I know, there are still the good hackers... but I've become jaded.)

As long as pirating doesn't get bad until the 3rd year, I think Nintendo and 3rd parties should be ok for sales.
Because really, this opens the gates to a lot cool stuff, but also the bad. :/
