Wii-U - Amazon listing UK prices and launch date

Well looks like some sites are still guessing.

Bol.com from Holland had both systems at €500 till a couple of minutes ago.
Now the white one is at €300 and the black €350.
It does state that the prices are fictitious and that they will be updated when they get more info.

I hate to tell you... we pay about $80 equivalent for new games.

Actually, we pay roughly the equivalent of nearly $60 if we buy our games online. And rule of thumb is that in a few weeks, it gets a price cut in sales. Something which to my knowledge, games in America admantly stick to the $60 price tag for a while.

Around £200 for the basic package? Anything under about £270 for the premium package is a steal which I'll have to snap up.

Expected. We never get the direct conversion rate. I was worried it would be £300+ for the deluxe model.

Yeah to be expected but I was hoping for a pleasant suprise :)

I always guess it would be around 230, looks like I was right in the middle of two choices, so good guess.

If I'm buying, I'd want the premium. Mainly for the internal storage (enough to tide me over with small downloads for a while) and the gamepad docking station - the battery is supposed to be pretty bad so it'll need charging often, and I don't want to mess about with cables.

Shopto's £279 was back when rumors on prices were floating around, more then likely they will adjust it and accept it as the premium bundle.

£199 for the base pack is rather good if you really have no interest in the wii u minigames at launch, but only 8GB flash might suck down the road.

Now we just have to wait for the price wars, thanks to them I was able to pick a 3DS + game like 60€ cheaper than if I did it at retail.

Plus you'll want the stands. All three of them.

Because of EU law their is no MSRP.
Retailers can set the price them selfs.

Nintendo aren't allowed to set a base price, it's entirely down to retailers

So we'll probably see various retailers offering difference prices to be competitive

thanks, I didn't know that.

I'm hopeful the store prices will be the same as the price set by simplygames, but I don't know if I should wait and see or pre-order from them now. will they take the money straight away? are they reliable?

Are they reliable? I've never heard of them before. I would like to buy mine in a shop on the day of release, but this is a good price.

I can't answer for consoles or launch day releases but I have bought games from them before with no issues if that helps.

Wait on it.. supermarkets will come out on top I reckon

£199 for basic from Amazon, hmmm. I wonder they will do the deluxe for £249 then?

Was thinking the same thing. So basically £250 for the 'essential' bundle doesn't seem too bad to me.

I mean I don't expect it to stand a chance against the 360 or the PS3 at retail this Xmas but it feels like the price could have been far worse.

thank you. I think I will take your advice and wait on it. I have a 24 hour Asda and Tesco in a 3 mile radius, so it won't be difficult for me to get to either of them on the night of the launch.

no, don't give a shit about the stands, unless there is some functional benefit to the wiiU standing upright. It'll live in a cupboard and be invisible anyway.

seems a bit odd to have a charging stand *and* a stand stand for the gamepad.

the supermarkets will probably be the cheapest you can find the console at launch, they're very competitive

Give it time and you will see the base model drop to £185 where places fight for the lower prices, and maybe throw in something extra, always happens!

Gamestation in Redditch has Tweeted: "Basic edition £210 Premium edition £250. Preorder in store NOW £20 deposit!"

game group still just don't get it, they always seem to add on a personal tax to their sells, £210 really?

If GS/Game is charging £250, we can expect non-game store retailers to charge less I think. Argos or supermarkets may have some very tempting deals coming up. Any word on the ZombiU bundle yet?

now that I've calmed down a bit from all the news, you're right, so I'll definitely be waiting on it and buying from a supermarket.

I know I keep asking questions (sorry), but has anyone bought a console from a supermarket before? how are they if the machine develops a fault? I know Nintendo machines are very reliable, but in the possibility it does develop a fault, will they replace it or tell me to go directly to Nintendo?

I haven't seen anything yet, but I have everything crossed for one. I mean everything crossed. ;)

I've always said, they've learnt absolutely fuck all from their almost collapse. I've gone into stores since, and its exactly the same as it was before. Ridiculously high prices and borderline stalker customer service, which I realise is never the fault of the people working there, but the ignorant management and head office.

Buying from GAME/Gamestation, and the extra is basically an idiot tax. I made the mistake with the 3DS, and never again. Buy from a supermarket, save yourself some money.

MCV:

Two high end UK retail sources have told MCV the rough prices of Nintendo’s new Wii U.

MCV understands the trade price for the Basic Pack is £205, the Premium Pack has a trade cost of £246 and the ZombiU version (which includes the Premium Pack and a copy of Ubisoft's horror shooter ZombiU) has a cost price of £270.

One of the sources said he expects the retail prices to stick at around £250 for the Basic unit, £290 - £300 for the Premium unit and £330 for the ZombiU set.

I hope they are wrong. £300 is £50 too much.

To hopefully clear things up, Nintendo are not allowed to enforce a retail price to the consumer, however they are perfectly entitled to set an RRP that the retailers can follow or ignore at their discretion, it's just gamesmanship from them saying they can't.

Also, they effectively set a minimum price anyway with the cost price which they have total control of.

I bet once Sainsbury's and Asda undercut Tesco by a few quid, the prices will come crashing down. Don't worry about that.

Do you honestly expect the supermarkets to keep their nerve and hold the line on such ridiculously high prices?

Let me tell you a little story about the 3DS XL...

Even £300 for the deluxe WiiU is simply far, far too much.

Who exactly are Nintendo selling this machine to? That price point is bordering on niche market.

The 'family unit' that bought the Wii are not going to go anywhere near this console for a premium pack that costs three hundred quid.

No way.
