Wii-U - Amazon listing UK prices and launch date

Cancelled basic pre-order from 10 mins ago (lol - I'm so indecisive!) and gone for Premium. Hoping the price drops between now and the big day though, as I didn't want to pay this much....

It's way outside the "impulse buy" territory that was the Wii pricing now.

Yep. I could have justified it as a silly purchase just in time for Christmas. I can't justify that kind of cash for a console I'll play for only a couple of games. I made that mistake with my 3DS and to some degree the PS3.

Anyone know if WiiU is multivoltage? Can I buy one in the US, I'm prob going at Xmas. Don't want to use a power transformer though.

I'll probably go for a black version - but not at the stupid prices going around at the moment.

The Zombi U version includes everything in the Premium version, a pro controller and Zombi U (Not sure if it is instead of N-Land or as well as.)

This is what I'm trying to work out at the minute. Zombie U bundle is a Premium version, so should include Nintendo Land, but the wording on some sites makes it sound like it's Zombie U + the Pro Controller instead of N-Land.

Wow, with this bullshit, I've gone from REALLY contemplating splashing out on a Wii U to taking the same wait and see approach I did with the 3DS. Nice job! >.> I finally got the 3ds when the XL came out... Retailers must be making a killing at this price.

I don't know why Amazon is listing the Premium at £299, one of the Gamestation branches have tweeted that the prices in their stores are £210 basic and £250 premium, and if Gamestation are selling it for £250, the RRP will be something around that. We all know what Game/Gamestation console and bundle prices are usually like compared to online, at least initially.

The account that GameStation tweet came from then posted this later

PRICES CONFIRMED! White 8GB - £259.99 / Black 32GB - £309.99 / £20 Deposit to secure yours! Zombi U edition will be £349.99

A lot of people seem to be confused about the different packs, so I went back into the video and took these shots.

that was the earlier price, they have changed it to prices that are higher than the ones amazon are listing.

Don't pre order for £300, that will only encourage the retailers to keep prices high. The supermarkets will come to the rescue of those who want to buy the console.

Well, I'd be surprised if half the people pre-ordering at full price intend to pay full price for it - I expect a good chunk will get cancelled last minute if they don't get lowered. Looking back at the 3DS, the retailers gauged each other here in the UK where no RRP was set - by the time the thing actually came out I think I got it for £100 less and with a game (compared to the original pre-order price).

Then it sold terribly anyway so they had to chuck those GBA games at me. I can't see Nintendo making the same mistake again, give it a week or two and they'll easily be £50 less than the current prices.

£199 for basic from Amazon, hmmm. I wonder they will do the deluxe for £249 then?

If so that would be a lot cheaper for me than to buy the 350 Euro version in Austria. Please UK retailers, try to outclass each other to help a poor student from Austria to get the WiiU a bit cheaper^^

EDIT: Oh i see UK stores are now seeing who can get higher with their prices... sigh.

This is just insultingly lame.

$349 bundle has effectively been marked up £80 (to £299)

$349 bundle has effectively been marked up €80 (to €349)

What planet are they on? Do they not want it to sell well on EU? I'll be buying one as I'm lucky enough to get a bonus around that time and live in a tax free zone :D, but I can't imagine people clambering for these as Nintendo are hoping. EU pricing could really screw this bitch up.

Considering what we know about the hardware you can't really expect the console to be cheap, but £300 for the Premium SKU is about £50 over the top imo. Anyone expecting a console that's around 3 times more powerful than the 360 to be the same price as the Wii needs their bumps felt.

We're talking about a console with 2GB of RAM, a CPU with 3MB of eDRAM as cache, 32MB of eDRAM for the GPU which is a modern Radeon HD (probably pushing between 600-800GFLOPS) and a controller with a bloody great big touchscreen on.

This isn't another Wii by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm liking the sound of the ZombiU bundle but not at 350 quid.

So Zombi U bundle is unofficial?

Need that black Pro Controller as well, and can't find either on Amazon at the moment.

Nintendo of Europe no longer set RRPs, this is all retailers marking shit up.

What the fuck happened to these prices? Jesus Christ - I'm waiting for some (hopefully) more reasonable prices.

This isn't about the power; it's about us getting ripped off, plain and simple. Glad I'm waiting until after Christmas and possibly March to see how this pans out. Pure greed, and EXACTLY the opposite of what they said they'd do after the 3DS tanked. They learn nothing.

Still no cancellation for my £199 Premium Pack, and the price of the order on my orders page is still £202 including shipping. Dare I dream?

I'm preparing printscreens of all the details to kick up a fuss if they take it away.

I know. I'm talking about the retailers.

I've emailed Amazon to ask them what the deelio is. Also forwarded to NoE just to see what they say. We need to kick up a fuss on this dudes. It's a step too far this time and in Europe's current state may well screw up the Wii Us launch.

I'm still confident they'll drop the price before launch. But until then; I moan.

Joke post?

Totally serious mate. If you'd have been following the Wii U speculation threads you'd have an idea of what's under the hood. Nintendo aren't going back to the high spec components that they had in the Gamecube but as I've said this isn't anywhere near a Wii situation either.

All 3 consoles are going to be in the same sort of ballpark in terms of power, like they were last gen. For example, now that we know that the U has 2GB of RAM we know that it's equal to the bottom range of target specs for the PS4, which is going to have 2-4GB of RAM. It's quite possible that Sony will cut back on the RAM to cut costs, particularly when you consider they're pushing the boat out with the GPU (which incidentally is, in terms of throughput only at the most 3 times the FLOPS of the U's GPU).

And I've already listed the specs for the U which are around 3-4 times more than the 360 - the cache, the RAM, the eDRAM, the GPU FLOP rate. And you've got to take into account the OoOE CPU and DSP too before you even think about adding the cost of a more modern PowerPC CPU and the costs involved with that.

People seem to be under the misapprehension that Nintendo always release consoles with underpowered hardware when it's only happened just the once with the Wii. With the U they've tried to strike a balance between having affordable hardware and hardware that will be able to handle downports next gen without a problem, and going by what we know of the U and the PS4 and 720 I'd say they've managed to do so.

Oh so its gone up again...Even 250 is too high for basic entry...its hardly cutting edge. Price should be there advantage. Wasn't 300 entry price for the 360 in the UK? This isn't much more powerful is it.

So Zombi U bundle is unofficial?

I thought it was official. They even made a direct mention of it on the Nintendo Direct video. But yeah it seems odd that you can't actually find concrete info on it.

Just orded the Wii U zombi U version - 329 pounds

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00844QCQK/

It contains

Wii U console with 32GB memory storage unit
Wii U GamePad
Wii U Pro controller
3-Months Nintendo Network Premium
NintendoLand game
ZombiU game

HDMI cable
Wii U AC adapter
Wii U GamePad AC adapter

Seems like 2 games.
I wonder how long it will take to get the pro-controller working on PC.

See my posts above mate.

I still say the SKUs are around 50 quid too expensive though. Am going to wait a bit and see what happens, once one cuts their price they all will.

Someone bigging up the WiiU's middling specs for 2012 tech in a thread (no, this isn't THREE TIMES THE 360) where I am also actually looking at a genuine £300 price point currently. Time to check the water supply before I die of brain poisoning.

Gamestation was saying all that stuff was in the box to. So I guess it is the two games. Likely to go for the ZombiU bundle then.

Even if it is the case that the Wii U is multiple times more powerful than the 360 (I'm sceptical - people are too quick to take unsourced leaks as fact IMO), it's a hard sell when none of the current games on the Wii U look any better than those on the 360, let alone alone 3-4 times better.

It was £229.99 for the Core, and £279.99 for the Premium.

Considering you get two games and the pro controller, it really is the best value bundle. Assuming you want those games, that is. Which i do.

Odd that one is through marketplace and not done normally, even if it does say sold by amazon.co.uk

Sort yourselves out Amazon.

Just fyi gamestation have gone back on their 210/250 tweet prices and now say its 260/310 :/

https://mobile.twitter.com/GSRedditch/status/246306056974761984?p=v

Thats about £30 more than i wanted to pay for the premium

So much for competition... they are all competing for who can get the highest price. £185 is the conversion of the US price, I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon's £200 is the correct price for the UK but many had it higher so Amazon also went up.
