Wii U back in stock at GameStop

Nobody wants the white ones. Nobody. The only people who do, do not understand the difference between the two. That has been my experience in our GameStop district.

black is:

-$50 more
-24 more GB of space
-minigame compilation
-a bunch of plastic
-deluxe digital promotion with the risk of losing your downloads forever if your console breaks/is stolen
-fingerprints fucking everwhere

i think i'm okay with my white

Updated Wii-U stock picture of the day:

I think nintendo allows transfer over customer service

Its cumbersome but they allow it

I want a model that has a 4000+ mah battery! I hope they have some stamina battery by the time MH and Pikmin 3 are out.

Bellevue, WA a city across the lake from Seattle. Not a small city.

Yeah, I live in Redmond and Wii Us are definitely not hard to find if you want one. I was surprised to see them in stores tonight still after a long Black Friday. Couldn't blame anyone for choosing the PS3 or 360 bundle over the Wii U though. Just an infinitely better deal and value.

Isnrt the tablet controller the main selling point?

What your suggesting is buy better parts slap wiimote on it and call it a day

Dont think that would work
All the people I know that bought one (including myself), bought it because it's the new Nintendo console and it has Nintendo games.

I imagine they intend for the controller to be the USP, but I think it will inevitably go back to Mario, etc. And without motion drawing people to Wii Sports and Mario Kart, I think Wii U will see N64-like success as opposed to leading the market like SNES or Wii (for the time that it did), only with stronger total sales than N64 due to a much expanded market.

So the blackfriday retail musing is..
Wiiu failure. No demand. And stock everywhere right?

Maybe i should cancel my wiiu

Are you sure that's the same exact stack from a few days previously? I did a double look at your previous shot and some of the boxes have been moved around. The second pic is more neatly stacked than the old one. A possible restock might have occured

Though they gotta get over the whole add-on confusion. My cousin pulled the "oh, you got the new Wii controller!" line on me. =/

Yeah, I've had two run ins with people who didn't get that it was a whole new system. One was my mid 50's mother who owns a Wii. The other was my friend and his wife who own all three current gen systems, but are still more on the casual side of things. But, yeah, they thought it was some kind of add on shit as well. Pretty fucked.

The collecting dust theory is more dramatical and with no way to confirm one or the other im going with the collecting dust nintendoom theory

how can you own all three systems and be considered a casual gamer

Just to add my little anecdote from Ann Arbor, there isn't a Wii U to be found anywhere as far as I can tell from my travels in the past 24 hours. That includes a Meijer, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us and Gamestop. I haven't checked Best Buy as it's a little too far away for convenience. But it also seems like most stores didn't get all that many to begin with. I got a basic on launch night and I'm happy with it. My apartment is always covered with dog and cat hair so anything that keeps it from showing is always welcome.

We still have no clue if purchases are going to be transferred between 360 or ps3 to next gen. Not that I really care as buying a new console will not make my old console stop working magically.

And if content doesnt transfer for those systems then I will not be buying them either.

This is not a case of me complaning why cant I play my gamecube games on 3DS. This is a case of why is something called a 'virtual console' if it is not virtual at all but literally tied to the physical system it was downloaded it to.

It is worse than a physical copy, because I have no way of reselling it. If digital content does not transfer, it is lost forever once your hardware dies.

Steam and even apple have it right. Why should I expect any different from Nintendo?

Buying a Wii U is more than just paying for hardware. It is investing in a platform. The platform is not up to par at the moment.

If Wii U gets outsold by ps3 and 360 for November NPD, would that be seen as bomba?

The 360 had a very low opening due to supply constraints, so that would be horrible for Wii U. Unless you mean this coming November, in which case it would then depend on the supply, at least in my area it's still easy to find any console but the Wii U, so i'd not hold that against them.

Haha so do I. I live right across the highway from Nintendo.

I never said it was the same stack though.

Giving my anecdote from the other side, Chicagoland best buy completely sold out of Wii Us and NSMBu at around 7pm today. I believe it's the largest BB in the state.

No, it would be viewed as a miracle if it beat the 360 this holiday season. For that to happen Nintendo has to ship a f*ckton of Wii Us and Microsoft would have to fall on their face.

Haha so do I. I live right across the highway from Nintendo.

Well, that would be the easiest place to find one. =)

I'm hoping the Best Buy on Clark will get some next week. Going to be stopping by after work everyday.

Considering I've been hopping to and fro all around Southern California, and had to drive to seven stores just to find one measly BASIC set, I find this whole notion of Wii U bomba as laughable.

Finally got one at 11 pm.

Lots of money but not lots of free time due to having real careers and a kid. She's casual (mario party and guitar hero), he's something in between I guess. He'll play the bigger games like Gears and Call of Duty, but doesn't get big into things or really know about games before they start showing commercials for them on TV. PS3 was bought mostly to be a bluray player.

Pretty easily, I imagine.

Am i the only one that thinks that the definition of hardcore gamer is getting more and more hard to qualify for?

I somehow have doubts that ebpven neogaf poster qualify at this point

I have a full time job too and stopped listening to every gaming podcast out there or acquire information on the net like i used too

I buy hell of a lot more games but rarely play em to completion due to lack of time

Haha not quite. This is Best Buy, not a Nintendo store. The Wii-U's are sent to a BB distribution center before sent to the stores. I doubt they say "Hey allocation dudes, send more to Bellevue since it's a city close to Nintendo HQ!" lol

If this all somehow leads to the kind of output from the big N that is reminiscent of the N64 days....I'm cool with that

Not just 360, but ps3 as well which should sell decently as well for a 6 year old console.

I think it's a real possibility that this happens.

I meant Nintendo HQ would be a good place to find a Wii U.

I didn't want to say PS3 simply because of past history of selling the worst during Black Friday. But that 199 deal they had today was amazing and sold out at Amazon and Gamestop. They must have sold a ton.

My own personal definition is pretty much myself and what I assume most Gaffers are on the gaming side. Mainly that I am always playing something and have an idea of what's coming next as soon as I finish my current game. That's just me, I do think people have different definitions, obviously.

This may rattle some cages but this is my honest assessment. Nintendo is better supplying the stores which is why this isn't in short supply like the original Wii. With that being said, the Wii-U does not appear to be the sensation the original was.

This is not doom and gloom. Look where the 360 was at launch + RROD, now look at what a beast it is. Things can change down the road for better or worse.

Your hardcore gamer is someone else's casual, and vice versa.

I self-identify as a casual gamer, personally.

I read definitions of hard core ganer that 70% of the monthly spendings need to be on games

Having the twins on the horizon definitely makes it much more precarious though.

Wasnt wiius initial shipment around 500k..

360 is on a downward trend this year but itll do more than 500k probably

360 is definitely trending downward fast. I dont think they'll get anywhere near the 1.7 million they did last year, but they'll sell more than enough to top the Wii U.

*Opinion alert, opinion alert, be warned.*

It's not about outselling PS3 or 360. For Wii U, it is about selling out. This is the successor to the Wii, a console that had the highest holiday sales ever recorded, and this is the system launch. I don't care what the number is, but if they don't sell everything they have, I would lean towards saying they underperformed.

But this is getting way ahead of ourselves.
