So I was just randomly thinking... Could a 3D Kirby game work? I don't really know how it would, but I also didn't think they could pull off Metroid.

Sounds like HAL had problems when they were trying to develop a 3D Kirby during the series' development hell. As someone who was introduced to console gaming through SM64 and Banjo-Kazooie, I'm always up for more 3D platformers, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

So whats the deal..Is anyone buying a extra WiiU gamepad at launch? I dont see the need to yet, that and Im buying a WiiU pro controller.

I'm not getting a Wii U at launch, but I also don't see the need for a second pad at the moment. I'd need a really strong reason to convince me.

I wouldn't be surprised if extra Wii U pads were excluded from the launch window.

we don't even know if they are going to be available at launch.
but I will, eventually. If the games that support two gamepads really justify the purchase, I will :D

The reason there was so much backlash against Nintendoland is that they made it the climax of their conference and they spent ten minutes explaining every minute detail of Luigi's Mansion. Nintendo really messed that up. On its own merits, it looks pretty good, and the art style on some of the games is quite charming.
Basically the Pac-Man Vs. effect from nearly a decade back, though with a bigger game.

Just went back and re-watched the E3 2003 conference, and Pac-Man vs. reveal seemed fine. If you're going to harp on the whole "our GameCube sales aren't where we want them to be, so we decided to focus on connectivity to try to leverage GBA success into GCN success" focus, that's one thing. But the Pac-Man vs. reveal was 1) clever ("we haven't got approval for this, yet, so let's invite the creator of Pac-Man on stage to ask him"), 2) short and 3) any negativity should've been easily offset by the just prior reveal of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure on GameCube and the follow-on discussion of MGS:TTS. While I was fine with the NintendoLand reveal, it was 1) clumsy in presentation, 2) dragged on too long, and 3) wasn't offset by a follow-on "cool" announcement.

Don't think Pac-Man vs. was a bad reveal, unless you're just lumping into a bad feeling for connectivity. Still hoping they'll put Four Swords Adventure on 3DS. Would love to play that with local multi at some 3DS StreetPass meetups. :)

Just played Rayman Origins. Hey, it's really good. I am now slightly sad that I'm not getting a Wii U at launch, as I will have to wait a while for Legends.

Thats what I was thinking they werent confirmed..Thats crazy how its confirmed possible to use 2, yet not confirmed to buy 2. The whole lack of information thing sonds like they arent organized for launch or rushing it. I wonder how much of Iwatas quote of we dont want competition to copy is really affecting this.

About Kirby 3D I think they could pull of a sm3dl version of it. That view I think.

That looks awesome. I haven't even thought about 3D Kirby. Kinda miss the 3d platformers from the 90s.

Perhaps this is wrong but I keep hoping (best way to be disappointed) that Retro is returning to Metroid Prime or a similar style game but with multiplayer. Would just love for Nintendo to have it's own internal FPS series the way Microsoft has Halo and Sony and Killzone/Resistance. What are the odds this could happening?

It's not like Nintendo is against making shooters or allowing their teams to make them. Kid Icarus: Uprising and Metroid Prime (with the first person view coming from Mr. Miyamoto himself) series for example show they can do it if they put their minds to it.

I think if they were to come out with a game (eventually have a sequel or two) for the Wii U and support it the way Microsoft supports and grows Halo I'd be really happy even if 3rd party support drops to nothing for reason. Nintendo itself would have then covered all genres that I care about.

Or maybe I just need to finally break down and pay for Xbox Live (don't really want to do this) and buy and just play Halo 3/Reach and call it a day?

Hey guys, I just posted a Wii U box template in the custom box art thread. I thought I'd post it over here too in case some of you want to make a rad Wii U game case.

Template includes:
  • The full package design with a white or yellow stripe.
  • Minimal design with blue bars only.
  • Extreme minimal design with only logos.

Download the template: Here

Slim. They tried that with prime hunters and it was not received very well. What is most likely is nintendo starting a whole new franchise unrelated to metroid with a different developer (like NST or n-space) and make that their FPS franchise (like Perfect Dark) or make a deal with a third party to make a FPS franchise for them with nintendo funding and marketing (like gears of war). Although i have little doubts about a Retro FPS game being fucking awesome. Retro studios contains some of the guys that worked on the turok games for the n64

Making a deal with a 3rd party to make a game (maybe turning it into a franchise) and keep it exclusive could be the more likely choice now that you mention it given how they like to partner with 3rd parties.

That regarding Nintendo allowing only development of titles interesting for them is noteworthy. If the translation is somewhat accurate that is.

Dunno if that's good or bad. Currently leaning onwards bad. It sounds like they used to be, and it means Nintendo control the content which I think tends to be a bad thing. That said, if it reduces shovel ware that's good, but I actually think Nintendo likes that casual rubbishy game as they can sell quite well to the mainstream.

BTW: I can probably get someone to translate that but you've probably done a good enough job.

I gathered that it was only before release when devkits and other resources are limited. Makes sense: Nintendo wants only the best devs that will put out appealing titles to have a devkit, and the fewer that are out there, the lesser chance for leaks.

I'm sure that once we're past launch there won't be such tight rescrictions. But then again, it's Nintendo, so who knows. :p

Yea you will not be able to buy one separately at launch. There is just no reason to simply because no game will support it for MONTHS (I expect a mid -2013 party game collection will use it first). You'd clog up retail space with a product nobody needs at the moment.

It makes far more sense to launch standalone pads once there is a game for it. Maybe some sort of Wii Play like bundle that encourages you to buy one. Or a Red Steel 2 situation, where a third party game is bundled with an extra controller (with a Balance Board/Wii Fit price point).

Yeah, re-reading what I wrote I was just being a bit of a negative nancy whilst having flashbacks to the old Nintendo.

It could - with a Wii remote; think of the Yoshi gameplay in Super Mario Galaxy 2 where you could point to any object you wanted to use your tongue on. I think that this control scheme could work with Kirby.

I want a Kirby Mass Attack-inspired strategy game with 3D view on the TV and tactical top-down view on the controller. you move your Kirby troops via touch and they have to eat enemy troops to get their powers in order to defeat them.

Yesssss!!!!

Have just watched the ZombiU trailer again more closely and it looks like they've done what I was hoping they would do - they've removed the crosshairs by the looks of it! Nice!!! No crosshairs and no ADS - these muppets that play CoD and rely on aim assist, ADS, auto regeneration of health and multi-hits before death are going to get a real taste of what 'hardcore' gaming really is. I suspect some of them may end up in tears lololol. Unfortunately some of these muppets are reviewing games these days so I'm hoping they won't mark the game down for being too difficult lol.
.

I think they just turned off the HUD for trailer purposes. Aiming shots with no aim assist or crosshair with dual analog would be painful.

Agreed. I doubt they'd go that hardcore for a launch game, even if it is supposed to be Dark-Souls-y

I don't get it. Anyway, I hope someone finds it of use.

It was a joke reference to that "test game" graphic that basically says

............................................-> Scenario A: sells well => Conclusion: test games do well, no more effort required
"test game with............_\......
low effort, low budget...../......
............................................-> Scenario B: sells badly => Conclusion: only Nintendo games sell, no more effort required

rinse, repeat.

edit:

here's a ton of hi-rez Wii U assets for Ubisoft games on GoN's flickr account:

please look at those with Ubi's history with bullshots in mind ... I'd prefer to see that AA in the ZombiU shots in video form from actual game footage.

lovely, especially considering the other "horror" games incoming on the market..

Those latest ZombiU 1080p bullshots definitely show less impressive graphics work compared to some of the other stuff. Signs of rushing to meet launch in my opinion. Outside of the 1080p rendering (which is bullshit) there's little there that isn't easily accomplishable (and in some cases surpassed) on the 360/PS3.

Luckily the hands-on previews are sounding consistently great, further validating my desire to purchase this one.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Ubisoft does it again!

Don't be trashing Your Shape.

I use that as my main source of fitness (Kinect version) and it destroys me repeatedly. It is a fantastic way to get in shape.

I was serious :D
The color choice is perfect for the Wii U boxart.

ZombiU looks like a Wii game, duh. :/ I'm an expert, I have a good rig bros

Ubisoft uploaded this in 1080p but all the Zombi U trailers in 720p. Can we take this for granted that these will be their native resolutions respectively?

I noticed this too but didn't want to mention it :p Maybe just a chance to show off new areas without being polished up, but more than likely just like Red Steel... a real mixed bag of graphics ranging from dodgy to 'ummmm, that's nice!!'

What would happened If someone broke their WiiU gamepad though? Will you be SOL?
