Wii's Virtual Console Lineup Revealed

The Wii has FAR too little space to hold all these games.

Does its 1 GB memory card/unit store these games?

512 MB built in + 1 GB should be quite enough for all these games, plus a lot more.

You can use whatever SD Card you have though.

So whats it gonna take for a console to release R.B.I. Baseball with online play?
You, sir, are my new favorite poster.

Seriously though, great list. They've matched XBLA in one month, just like I said.

Wait a minute. You're saying this is better than the Kameo-themed Uno deck being released tonight? The hell you say.

edit: so is this only the UK list?

I was hoping for Super Metroid or Chrono Trigger soon. Oh well, not like I'd have spent my time with VC games this year anyway. I need to play Wii games first! Zelda is calling :D
You know, this made me realize that Nintendo has a real spoiler on their hands.

Anytime there's a semi-big release for PS3 or 360 all Nintendo needs to do is put up a release on the level of Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid or Ocarina of Time. "Dry" months of slow or no releases could be EASILY filled up with one or two smash hits. With surefire big sellers spread across so many different console eras, this is going to be bigger than I think any of us predicted.

Eh, this isn't really true.

You don't think taking (for example) F-Zero SNES and giving it an online mode, especially given Nintendo's questionable handling of online in the past, would take a lot more time than just emulating the original game and putting it on the VC?

* Solomon's Key

O_O ... awesome!!!

I still don't understand why Nintendo insists on using the bad NES ports of their classic arcade games, though. Wouldn't the true arcade versions of DK, DK Jr, and Mario Bros be better choices?

Even though there's an €8 price tag, I will finally get the chance to play some SEGA classics I missed out on because of my Nintendo fanboyism back in the day. Awesome.

Wii has 512 MB of built-in flash memory. If you were to add together the space requirements for ALL of these games, it would certainly be less then 50 MBs. Adding in the fact you can expand the space available to you indefinitely with SD Cards, you can see that there is no reason to worry.

also does wii come w/ a built-in harddrive?
512 MB internal flash memory. You can also use SD cards to save stuff onto. Might want to wait a bit before going out and buying one of the new 4 GB ones, though, as we don't know if the wii can read those. The 2GBs and lower should definitely work, though.

Have any newly developed titles been announced for Wii virtual console yet? Nostalgia's all fun and hoots but its paying for often 1mb roms that've been around for 10 years, and is just profit profit profit.

I want to see at least a shred of this 'potential platform for low-cost development indie games', because so far X360 and PS3 are shaming Wii in that regard.

oh, and by the way: the largest game on this list is Mario 64, at 8 megs.

Right. What's a large N64 game though? 32 MB? It would store just 16 of those. 512 may be plenty for a while, but with hundreds or even THOUSANDS of games available, everyone's going to want some more space by the end of the generation.

Solomon’s Key, Dungeon Explorer, and Gunstar Heroes confirm the commitment to less well known titles. Earthbound release is imminent.

Good thing SD cards are so unbelievably cheap. :)

Jet Force Gemini comes in at around 32, yeah. Mario 64, Wave Race, and other early N64 games are definitely on the low end of the spectrum.

the largest N64 games are Pokemon Stadium 3 (2 in the US) and Resident Evil 2, at 64 megs each. The next largest game is Ogre Battle 64 at 40 megs, and then there's a whole bunch of 32 meg games.

are you seriously going to buy hundreds or thousands of games? If you really need more space, you can always delete the games you aren't playing at a certain time and re-download them later for free (I'm pretty sure it's been announced that you can do this).

Or, you can get an SD card and use that to store your games.

There are a total of 29 games there. Wouldn't that mean that this is pretty close to final for NA VC launch? Japan has 60 at launch. How much does Europe get again? So if this is close to final, I'm not that thrilled. At least put in SMK!!

I believe the two largest N64 games are Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Resident Evil 2 (both at 64 MB). If 512 MB isn't enough, you can always get an SD Card. By this time next year, 2 GB SD Cards should be consistently under $10.

If i can be a huge sausage here, anyone with a scale should get out Mario64 and RE2 for n64 and weigh them. You can feel it in your hands. it's crazy.

Can anyone confirm that Iggy's Wrecking balls was only 4 megs? (i.e. smallest n64 game?)

I'm pretty sure Conker was 32 megs (could be wrong, though).

I know for a fact that Pokemon Stadium 3 and RE2 were 64 megs each, though

**** all you guys-I have first dibs on the Virtual Boy games.

Between these titles and the regular Wii titles, I don't know how anybody can complain about the Wii launch. But I'm pretty sure people will anyway. :(

People will only complain because for some reason, Nintendo opted out of putting current graphics capabilities into its machine. Imagine all of this + that, at an affordable price.

The games are there (even if the effort put into many of them seems questionable).

SNES and N64 library is crying. WTH Nintendo? Although I must admit I will rebuy Sim City and F-Zero again. PLEASE add Wiimote functionality into Sim City. Mmmm. I love the music.

Yeah, Sony is really blowing everyone away with Sudoku and a Geometry Wars ripoff.

Thankfully SD cards are dirt cheap and Nintendo hasn't gone the proprietary route, unlike Microsoft.

Good to see that there aren't any rights problems with Rare developed games. Maybe Goldeneye isn't that far-fetched after all.

Those games feature Nintendo characters though.

So basically.....

You could buy Animal crossing for 19.99
Play it on the Wii
And unlock half the Nintendo games on that list.

AND include the ability to take the games on the go by linking up your GBA

Or, you could pay $5 each.

Riiiiiiiight

(or I could just swipe my $3 e-card games into by GBPlayer)

*Drool*

I know many didn't like Jet Force Gemini but I loved the fuggin game. I never played Conker but I can only dream.

Where the hell is Adventure Island? Bionic Commando? A bigger N64 selection? I don't need this for SNES and NES games but N64 games I can't emulate. *cough* I meant, still find in the back of my closet. Ah, I'll go cry now. BTW, can a brotha get Space Harrier on the Master System, please?

No?
*kills self*
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Well to be fair MS will have a 100 GB hard drive, and the default one is 25 times the space the Wii flash memory has.
