Will DW series ever get any REAL recognition.

Its obviously awesome, but its simplicity gets it poo poo'ed by the more public critics. Its one of the best game series ever made, it improves with every release. Its awesome.
 
Maybe with Dragon Quest 8's release (if it's still called Dragon Warrior when it does), it'll get more recognition than 7 did, and get more interest in the earlier ones.
 
I think he's talking about Dynasty Warriors.

The key with DW is to add one or two points to the score when someone reviews it. DW is not meant to have puzzles laden out throughout the levels. DW isn't meant to jump on enemies and go down pipes. DW isn't about collecting 600 banana coins. DW is about killing enemies by the thousands and ruining people's shit. If reviewers can't get that point, then they shouldn't be reviewing the game.
 
Yeah..but the initial post could be used for both! And I go with that..one could only hope.

I dunno, I'm just tormenting you back when you say DW and mean Dynasty Warriors instead. :(

Never played a DyWa, but I saw some upgrade of 4. Weren't those games originally a fighting game or something?
 
I've never understood why critics will dump on DW, saying "it's the same shit over and over, no depth, etc." but will give other series 8s for releasing a yearly sequel with no or meager changes at all (not to name names or anything)

Because they are idiots. Doesn't get anymore simple than that. I've also given up on reviews altogether. Thank you IGN Dreamcast.

DW is my favorite gaming series. I'm even enjoying DW for PSP, a game that has probably got the lowest scores in the US. To hell with them. As long as I enjoy them and sales are strong, there will be plenty more to come.
 
Dynasty Warriors is ahead of it's time. In terms of what people expect from games, and what the Playstation 2 can churn out.

If the Playstation 3 is the Superbeast it's expected to be and Koei can make a Dynasty Warriors game that looks like a battle out of Lord of the Rings, Alexander, or any other big ass dudes beating the shit out of each other in a gorgeous environment; I fully expect many critic lips to be wrapped around the Omega Force dick.

Visuals is the only thing really holding back the DW series from achieving REAL ULTIMATE POWER!

I love the games, so don't take any of that as trash talking. I can't fucking wait for DW PS3!

DW5 fucking owns. Finally unlocked Pang De. He rocks, though he runs so slow :(

Currently playing Cao Cao's musou so I can unlock the great YUAN SHAO. I miss his DW4 "huh-hah, huh-hah, huh-hah, ha-ha, ha-ha!" battle grunts though. :/

I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game, but I absolutely love the concept. I hope the game's visuals improve dramatically (compared to other games, I mean) next generation.

Truth. Easily the best in the series. But the DW games have sold pretty well here right? I know they're insanely popular in Japan. Who cares if they get so-so reviews, if it sells like mad, obviously it's liked by the masses, and isn't that recognition right there?
 
The series is great as a co-op game too because it's so accessible. Any non-gamer can pick it up and have fun hacking up soldiers.

Y'know, aside from the intro music for SoR1 I can't think of any reason to go ga-ga over Koshiro.

Although one of my beefs with the DW series is the lack of new super badass music with each iteration. I'm not a fan of remixes as it fucks up tunes I previously liked. I . . . errr. . . acquired the DW5 soundtrack to give it a listen, and it's got some pretty kewl new rockin' tunes. Still I hope Koei devises a new theme for DW on the PS3. New generation, new music.

I agree. Dynasty Warriors is the best series created this gen. My second favorite series behind Ninja Gaiden series. I love this series so much. I'm a huge Madden addict too and they both fall into the same camp: Haters whine and complain about nothing being added to sequels but those of us who play the games know a ton is added into each addition. Some sequels add more than others but each sequel adds substantial additions. After all these years I'm fed up with even trying to argue with DW haters. I play the games, love 'em, and say fuck 'em to those who dislike the series without playing one! :D

Most reviewers don't get Dynasty Warriors games at all. It makes them huge hypocrites when they rate other series so highly that have yearly updates. Che had a good review of DW5 in EGM though. He seems to get the series.

Next gen Dynasty Warriors is going to rock so much. It could quite possibly be the best game EVER created!
 
I have DW4 and I am considering DW5.

I mirror TToB's sentiments. Next gen DW will be ridiculously amazing. I would like a bit more control over the other generals and my troops, though.
 
I got DW4. It's nothing special. Just a bunch of button smashing. Same shit over and over again. But it is fun for about 5 minutes.

Playing Xing Cai as your first officer can help towards that (what was I thinking? Thank God for Ling Tong...)
 
It's nice to finally find myself warming up to this series. I avoided it at first because of leftover anti-PS2 fanboy nonsense, later because the DW3 demo left me confused and irritated, and later still because of the usual mashing-related accusations. But! The combat is really among the best when counted among beat-em-ups and is more fun than I ever had with DMC (or most other melee-based 3D action games I've played, come to think of it). And the level layout and base/mission flow keep things interesting for me far beyond the usual beat-em-up boredom, which usually sets in before I've even lost my first credit in 2D beaters.

I feel like DW4E is a good introduction to the characters and their movesets. I'm getting tired of hiring all these generic-faced officers, though, so I need to push ahead in my empire-building, and I'll be glad to get into DW5.
 
DW5 is the best one to leave the PS2 on. XL and Empires may soon follow. But DW6 for PS3/Xbox!!!!!!

And yeah, its amazing how you get to know these characters through the game. You start having feelings of hatred or respect towards certain ones.
 
I am totally psyched for the Next-gen DW games, because it's clear that the PS2 (or any current system) can't do the idea full justice. I like the series as is (haven't played 5 yet), but I am most excited about what lies ahead for it... certainly it's got me more excited than any next-gen FPS.
 
DW5 is by far the best game in the series, but this is by far NOT the best series ever. IMHO, of course.

And DW4 pretty much sucked, as did DW PSP, so they certainly haven't gotten better with every release.
 
So DW5 is much above DWPSP? Cause I'm really looking to invest in another PSP game.

DW3 rocked. DW4E rocked. DW5 rocks hardest. The thought of DW5E makes me hard.

DW4 (vanilla & XL) and DW PSP suck and still make me flaccid :D .
 
I think the DW series just gets dumped on by reviewers that are just tired of reviewing 2 games from a series a year, but it seems like gamers like it just fine.

I'm not very enamoured with their release process where they put out two versions per year. I'm way more interested with where they take the Empires branch now than the main one. The closer they get to merging ROTK with DW the better, although I'm not sure how they'd work in the Debate Battles from ROTK X :D. Of course, the in-depth mode would be optional and the standard mode would always be available.

Imagine how lame it would be if Madden put out a version that only had season mode first and then later in the season release one that added on the franchise version and nothing else. Then they'd repeat the process next year with a non-franchise one, and so on. People wouldn't stand for that.

When I had DW4 and played the hell out of it (ignoring Madden 04), my friends gave me shit about how dumb I was playing a shitty game. Then we watched the episode and at the end, the people that said it was dumb wanted to borrow it. I didn't of course because I went right back to playing it.

Good. I'm hoping Koei can be real nice and release an upgraded DW5. At least there better be DW sales continued on Xbox. They weren't big sellers for the Xbox versions but Koei ported them anyway.

Thats true but thats only because the other games are fucking awesome. I really enjoyed DW PSP but it is DW-lite. Although I don't remember getting 1500-1600 KOs from DW4 but can with DW PSP.
 
A reworked Dynasty Warriors 5 with XL and Empires additions included w/ online play totally reworked for the Xbox 360 WOULD ROCK SO MUCH. I would pay over $100 for a game like this! $200! MS get your money hats out to Koei and make it so.
 
After so many damn DW and all the XL and especially Empire, DW5 is just a bore fest. Gimme online play on PS3/X360 then we'll talk. I don't need to know the character's story for the 10000th time.
