Will Loco Roco be bigger than Katamari?

Personaly I think Loco Roco has a much more appealing look.
It has that very iconic style going for it.

Just as Katamari, Loco Roco has awesome music(though, not pop music).

I also think the gameplay in Loco Roco seem more approachable.
Definetly more impressive. The physiqs are absolutely spot on.

Check out this new 7min movie, looks amazing:

~12mb (new)walkthrough of level 1

My My Katamari and Loco Roco = inescapable need to buy a (white) PSP when the latter comes out.

They are 2 games I simply cannot NOT own. Loco Roco has less... personality than Katamari though. Its a great game with visuals and quirks, but the main character is still a big yellow jelly blob. The prince, cousins and Kings added a great deal of the personality to the Katamari games.

Loco Roco is very reminiscent of Gish to me, which isn't a bad thing of course.

Katamari just has that universal appeal of nonsense and mischief and has more room for expansion in sequels.

The game does look very fun. Reminds me somewhat of Jungle Beat, so I'll be sure to check it out. The music, however, is near ZooKeeper levels of annoyance.

Loco Roco looks like a fun game, but it is on the PSP. Katamari had the benefit of a larger potential base to buy that game, while Loco Roco will launch on a platform with an installed base that's only in the seven figures worldwide. Katamari for the win.

It looks awesome, but bigger? Nah.

If not just because it's on a handheld. It'll go pretty unnoticed on PSP, I think. Sadly. :\

Loco Roco has a fantastic style, but from the TGS demo the game itself doesn't quite live up to it.

The control is so simple that it just isn't that involving, and the jumping also felt a bit sluggish. I'm still interested in the final game, but something just felt off with it.

The graphics look delightful, but that gameplay looks half baked. Tilt instead of... just move left or right? Blech.

Okay, holy shit. I just watched that video and it's the first time I've seen it in motion. It's pretty obvious that I think the upcoming PSP lineup is crappy, but this looks amazing. Officially on my top 10 most wanted list.

Yeah, the control looks a little clunky (mainly the jumping), but Katamari's control is a little clunky too. It has its problems. That doesn't make it any less kickass.

The graphics and artstyle in this game are awesome too. I felt like.. happy, just watching that video. heh. It's all so colorful and FUCKIN' ORANGE.

As long as the jumping doesn't suck, this is going to own. And as far as "instead of just move left or right?" Come on, don't be so narrow minded. The fun factor of games can change easily based on how its controlled. DK Jungle Beat was one of the most purely FUN games I've played all generation. And it's because of the bongos. It wouldn't have nearly been as much fun on the controller.

Sometime in 2006 is all they said about release date. I can't wait, this game seems like so much fun, and makes me smile just looking at it. Title screen music is the happiest thing ever!

There's a picture that shows another level (a whole level it seems) that has an octopus-like boss creature, and many trappings not found in this video demo level.

Wait, 2006 in America? If they fix the problems previously mentioned here, this is not a bad thing, to be sure.

2006 in Japan, US release is not announced, but guy working on the game who posts at Tokyopia thinks it will be released worldwide almost certainly.

I think it was going to be a great success for an unhyped game, but ever since TGS people have been hyping the game too much and now it might not live up to that potential. IMO anyway...

GREATEST IMAGE EVER! :lol

Edit - Oh, and to answer the question in the topic title. No. Though it looks nice. :)

Looks fun to me. I don't know if the controls complaints hold any merit until I try it for myself.

But, damn, did the clickity clacking in that video bug the spit out of anyone else?

if it's any added input to this theory, it will be my third PSP game ever bought and only the second one that I will actually own at the time.

if the PSP had more innovative games like this that actually take advantage of the uniqueness of a handheld PS2 I wouldn't hate it as much as I do.

as a side note, I actually popped in lumines for the first time in probably 4-5 months. god damn is that an awesome game.... still not worth $300 to play it, but definitely awesome.

Loco Roco will not be bigger than Katamari for a very simple reason, small userbase.

That doesn't mean it won't kick all kinds of ass!

Of course it won't beat Katamari if it's not release worldwide.

And they should release it here because it would gimme another of those RARE reasons to own a PSP for me.

Excellent if that pans out. I can just wait for the localization. :)

love it, but it looks like the controls could be frustrating.

Ever play Yoshi's Topsy Turvy? It's really really easy once you get the hang of it. Tilt the system to the right, the landscape drops to the right and you'll roll right. Same thing for moving left. YTT even complicates things by letting you control Yoshi AND the tilt. This game looks like you ONLY control the tilt, and jump.

Seems more cute than anything to me. I can't imagine it having much depth unless they're holding back some crazy level design and mechanics.

Looks like it would get old after awhile. Actually I'm already sick of it after watching that one level. I'll pass.

...

please tell me this is sarcasm, and that you're not judging an entire games variety on one level, probably the easy intro level?

How did you come to this conclusion? Why is it that everytime a good PSP game comes out that a specific person likes they have to say, "well the PSP lineup is crappy until I seen X game"?

Maybe you taste just sucks.

Loco Roco looks absolutely fantastic, and is easily one of my most anticipated PSP titles; it's so brilliantly simple it's irresistable, and it looks wickedly innovative and fresh in all the right ways.

This game is too cute to have that type of following. I'm still getting it though, I like cartoony games.

Is it just me or does part of that music sound like "Let it snow" "oh the weather outside is frightful, da dadadadadada da"

Music totally sounds like Mario... graphics look very nice, but here's hoping the gameplay will live up... right now it looks a bit too much on the simplistic side. Still it's nice to see original PSP content and I'll definitely buy this to support that!
