Will Sony really release the PS3 in spring 2006 here?

Has this ever happened before, where a system is released in the US in the spring? I know it's happened quite a bit in Japan, but I don't remember any big system launching in the spring in the United States. Just the fact that Christmas...even if you take the 360 out of the equation completely, will empty a lot of people's pockets, makes a launch for a new system put a lot of strain on people's pockets. Do you still expect record-breaking launch day numbers from the PS3 if it's launched in spring? Do you think Sony will actually be able to meet demand both in US and Japan if launched simultaneously? Could it mean that the US has a chance of seeing the PS3 first, before Japan? Speculate ahead folks....

If it happens while Xbox 360 is trying to ship in volume as well, buy IBM stock. Sell as much blood, clothes, cars, etc. as you can and pick up IBM stock because they will have an obscenely strong quater.

I'll be damned if Europe gets a spring release...

BTW, is interesting to see how quiet is everyone about region locks =/

It will be somewhat gauged on how the 360 is selling.

If its selling poor, Sony might not feel the need to rush.

If 360 is going like gang busters, well, Sony will probably wan to get it out as fast as possible.

The US is a critical market. Its where Sony has the smallest lead on MS. Really, Japan is a lock for Sony. MS does not have a prayer.

I seea launch by E3 2005 at the latest in the US and japan and a Europe launch in Sept.

When I was looking forward to X360, I was hoping PS3 wouldn't come out until Fall 2006. Now that the launch software disinterests me, I hope PS3 comes out as soon as it possibly can. The PSP is the only machine I have and at this point, its dumb to buy new console hardware. PSP is fine but I want console gaming ASAP, next gen gaming that is.

I think PSP was a test to see how well a system will sell in Spring. It sold well (nearly a million for an expensive handheld in 5 weeks is good) so I don't see why PS3 won't come out next Spring in the States.

Unless pigs fly....then no.

Sony will release the system first in the country where they can rape the consumers (aka Japan) and charge like $500+ and make them buy tons of accesories and discover all the bugs in the hardware.

Then they will fix the hardware and sell it for a moderate price of $300 or less between late summer and xmas in the US.

Unless US consumers want to be the ones screwed over?
