Funny, on my sp3 150002 was unusable for uwp and system dialogs, whereas 150007 is almost perfect the only issue being live tiles for uninstalled apps are not being removed from the start screen. And Edge crashing whenever I try to open the settings.

Speaking of which, when will they add back the option to backup the start screen layout and installed uwp apps?

The latest update broke my start menu. I had everything arranged neatly into folders. Now each Office program is listed individually, along with my Adobe stuff. Going to my start menu folder and placing them into one folder has no effect. Any solutions to this?

After testing the build a little longer, it seems that the slowdown and unresponsiveness only happens right after waking it up from sleep/hibernation. The UI doesn't respond to touch or mouse clicks and u can only close or minimize the focused app. After a couple of minutes, the performance is pretty good. There are still some hiccups here and there, but it's a lot better.

Edge crashing when accessing the settings is an often reported bug, so you're not alone with that. Interestingly enough, it doesn't seem to affect me. I wonder if it's caused by a specific extension, although it would shock me, as they're probably sandboxed.

Welp, the latest update fucked up my PC. Got stuck in the "Restarting" loop. Hard rebooted after a few hours and now it sits at the Alienware screen.

That's more like the problem with Ms who thinks people wants to use the browser as a book reader though. Hopefully it won't be too cumbersome to change the default app.

Lol green screen of death after one of the build uodate. Somehow it manages to allow me to go into boot mode tafter a bajillion restart to let me restart in safe mode. And then I just restarted and it's fine now
I learned from one of the other updates if you can get into safe mode you're fine

I wanted to try it, but there's not even a single book I ever heard of, and none of the ones I searched were there yet.

But I believe the win store is kinda the underdog for movies and music too, so I'm not very surprised.

So Windows just ransomed my computer again and forced another update today.

After the update, it hangs on the log in screen, and hangs on just about any application, like steam, or opera, every minute or less.

I thought getting into a game would fix the issues, as I was planning on playing local steam games with friends tonight, but even in the games it would freeze and hang for 20 or 30 seconds at a time. A couple times, DS4 Windows froze so the friend who was using the PS4 controller couldn't move his character until we waited for the hang to quit. Also, during the hang, Ctrl alt delete doesn't even work.

Fuck Microsoft so much for mucking shit up. Can I roll it back? Is there also a simple way to fuck these automatic forced updates right off?

edit: Discovered you can revert to an earlier build within the system options.. At least they provide that. It's a shame that doesn't pop up automatically after an update and ask you how the new update is performing. Crisis averted.

Guys, I have a problem,please help!
Recently I got pretty big bill from my internet provider - even though my plan is 'unlimited', there's still some sort of limit. Problem is that my monthly download data is not that big but upload is huge - like 6-8 times more.
So I have question - what causes it? Deleted uTorrent, so that's one problem less I guess, what else I can do? Also I downloaded NetWorx to track my data and since I completed noob when it comes to network, please answer me - is constant upload speed of 1-4KB/s is normal?

Might want to check if you're delivering Windows updates to other users across the Internet.

Settings -> Update & Security -> Advanced options -> Choose how updates are delivered -> PCs on my local network

It amazes me how this is a feature in Win10. Who would want to willingly sabotage their own upload (and download on an ADSL connection) to "help" Microsoft in delivering updates? It's a paid product and their servers should be fully capable of handling all the traffic.

It's actually a pretty nice feature, when you have multiple Windows 10 machines on your network. You can restrict the feature to only distribute the update to those machines, avoiding the need to download them every time for each machine.

That said, it should never be turned on by default in any situation. Notify the user that this functionality exists and let the user decide what they want to do with that information.

Little tip if you're on WiFi: You can mark your connection as a metered connection, which stops system downloads of any kind in the background (as it was meant for users with data caps). That feature is also going to be available to LAN connections in the Creators Update.

Well, it's off by default and pretty useful for lan delivery, i guess after they implemented it was a poece of cake to make it work over internet.

So I'm finally looking into buying Windows10 for my PC. Does anyone have the Pro version? Doesn't the Home edition not have remote destop? I've got to admit I'm not exactly looking forward to making the update, but it seems lie its time I guess. I also want that free Halo Multiplayer.

Win7 Home Premium. I've been putting off the upgrade because I only use the PC for gaming pretty much and have been put off by all the tales of ads on the homescreen and forced Siri results etc.

I understand a lot of things can be turned off and the AI doesn't show up if you're not signed in.. but I plan to make use the Xbox features more than anything since its a gaming PC. Is it possible to have the OS be hands off but still be signed in to the Xbox platform?

OS is more designed around Windows 7 (desktop) users compared to what 8/8.1 was, so you still see a lot of complaints from 8/8.1 tablet users on how it's a downgrade in 10.

To use Windows 10's Store (to play Xbox games + other UWP apps), you will have to sign in using a Microsoft account. You don't have to sign in if you plan to only use its legacy Win32/64 desktop apps. As Microsoft continues to retire old toolbox apps like calculator + paint, future of Windows is in UWP, so Microsoft is pushing Windows users who want the latest MS experience to move into the ecosystem.

10's experience can be worse for users upgrading from 7 as some hardware manufacturers didn't really bother testing their drivers fully (e.g. old Intel wireless cards). Upgrade experience is the best on Windows 8.1 Update 1 users.

Backup or image your current drive state. Try it out. If you don't like it, ask how to set things, and if you really hate it, return to 7.

Can someone help me? I have a Windows 10 laptop which I use at work with an ethernet cable. I turn on the Hotspot to share the internet wirelessly to my phone, which works just fine... for the first minutes, or hours. Suddenly Windows 10 turns off the Hotspot without even warning me that, it just goes and boom, off. I already turned off the option 'let windows turn off this device to save energy' so i dont knowwhat else to do to keep this shit on! I leave my phone connected to the wifi to save data, so this is very important.

Also, is there a way to let the hotspot option on at all times? I always need to turn it on manually.

What the fuck? I just got a forced Nvidia driver update (to 376.53 version). Wasn't the driver installations suppose to come with the Creators Update and become optional?

Drivers installations was always a thing in Windows. and right now they are mandatory in Windows 10. The Creators Update adds an option to make them optional.

Well it still sucks. I never had any Nvidia stuff forced on me and I usually update the drivers every 3 months on my own. What's really bad about this is that:
a) You can't turn it off right now and it bypasses apps used to stop or control Windows update deliveries.
b) If for some reason (like playing older games) you need older drivers you're screwed because Windows will keep forcing this one if you roll back.
c) You aren't allowed to choose which driver version you'll get with this mandatory update (the driver is from the end of the year? why this one and not the latest?).
d) You don't get any warnings. My screen just started to flicker out of a sudden and I thought for a second that my VGA may be dying. Also how does this work with doing clean installs? I wasn't even asked for a reboot.

Yeah, this was a major issue ever since Windows 10 has been released. That's why, after many complains from W10 users, Microsoft finally decided to add the option to disable drivers update through Windows Update.

Has anyone ever experienced games not running at an acceptable framerate on a fresh powerup of the OS? To specify: I have this weird issue with Trails in the Sky and Trails SC where if I power up my computer (from being fully powered off) and log in, then these games only run at 25ish fps each. If I restart my pc, they start running at 144fps like they're supposed to. This is a fairly consistent issue as well.

Are you on any Preview Build? I had a problem with one of the recent builds where the system run horribly slow after turning the PC on (the login screen itself hung for few minutes), but run without issues after restarting.

I definitely had this problem with one or two of the earlier 1500x builds, but it's been resolved for a while now. The speech runtime used a high amount of CPU power after unlocking the device and anything UWP took a couple of minutes before they were responsive in any way. Killing and restarting explorer.exe helped most of the time.

Can anyone recommend a good calendar/scheduling app that has both Windows 10 and Android versions and syncs between them?

I'm currently using the Google Calendar app on Android and then Google Calendar on the web on my PC but it leaves a lot to be desired and it would be nice to have a standalone app on the PC as well.

I have MS Office and gave Outlook a whirl on the PC for the first time but it seems really clunky and overkill for my intended purposes.

OneNote with a calendar and scheduling would be perfect since I could take notes with it as well.

If you're a Win 10 user (and I suppose you are) you can add your Google account to the Mail/Calendar app. You would then be able to manage your Google Calendar from the Calendar app and benefit from the app's system integration: showing upcoming events on the lock screen, the living tile and the agenda on the clock; being able to add new events through Cortana; setting reminders so that a system notification would pop up at certain times etc. It's a pretty good application for basic usage.

February passed with no usual patches. I think a first for the company even though there is a serious OS flaw that needs fixing.

Only update that went out with an emergency fix for Flash players. If you're one of those users who has flash disabled on everything (which you should), then this fix doesn't really matter.

Creators update is feature complete, so they need to patch all the bugs that break program compatibility/usability.

I'm guessing Xbox will be first to come out since everything seems to be smooth there.

Sorry to bump this thread, but does anyone know of a good place to find a Windows 10 Pro key? I need to update my laptop for work and the cheapest I can find is $100. I have no problem paying it, just wanted to know if there was a legit place to find it cheaper.

I'm having an issue with a pop-up that rears its head every few days. It looks like this and I can't get rid of it, neither Windows Defender or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware have resolved the issue.

When I open Task Manager and open the file location for it, I'm taken to:

This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Windows > SysWOW64 > mshta.exe

Does anyone have a solution for this? It's really annoying and if it could potentially lead to larger problems then I'd prefer to get this sorted ASAP.

I'm not sure if this is the best thread for it either, so if anyone could direct me to a thread that is better suited to help then I'd appreciate that too.

mshta.exe is just a generic HTML application host. Basically a standalone Internet Explorer window.

It's almost certainly malware of some sort. I think you can right-click on Defender to report it and block it.

Yeah, looking it up, it's definitely malware, you'll have to probably use a boot time scan to get rid of it.

It's kind of funny that they're trying to get you to download Chromium, the unbranded version of Chrome.

You could try clean installing it with a media disk either through USB or DVD. Use a media creation tool if you don't have one.
