Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

I'm going crazy with this touchpad issue, or whatever it is.
Basically, once I double tap to drag and drop, as in highlighting a text, it never registers I let go of the click, so I have to click (touch) the pad once again or wait about a second in order for the pointer to "release" the click.

(Solved, it was an issue related with the Touchpad driver)

I know previously, it was tied to the hardware. I remember major hardware changes sometimes triggering a need for reactivation. But I thought with this process, it is now tied to the account given no sort of product key was needed.

And once you upgrade to Win10, you can then easily do a clean install with little issue if you want to start from a blank slate.
Considering that many people will stay on local accounts - especially Enterprise - making the activation dependant on a Microsoft account would open an ugly can of worms.

Hey guys.

I'm trying to activate windows, but when I click on the "Change Product Key" button settings freezes and I can't do shit :(

Any way around this?

This crappy laptop I had to install it on has a new problem.

- No tiles in the Start Menu.
- App Store says there's a problem and won't launch.
- I assume Modern apps won't launch, if I could access them.

Anyone else's wifi experience completely unstable with Windows 10?
My other wireless devices (smartphone, tablet, WiiU) work without an issue and it doesn't matter whether I'm using Edge or Chrome it can take minutes to load a search.
Odd thing is I've run a pingtest with W10 and 0 packet loss.

Should I install this on my Dell Venue Pro 8?

I can't seem to find any information on how it will affect performance on smaller Windows tablets.

I have it on my T100 Chi and it's pretty much the same (if not better) in terms of performance.

So, forgive me if this has been addressed here, but I'm currently in a position where I have to tether to my phone to connect the internet so this page took an eternity to load:

After installing Windows 10 on my Zenbook last night, the trackpad is possessed. Won't scroll, double clicks constantly, jumps around when I press a button. So my planned course of action was install the last driver offered by Asus in compatibility mode. I download it after about an hour and a half due to my current internet set up, and before installing it tells me to uninstall the current driver. Ok. Done. For the uninstall to take I have to restart. At startup, before i even log in, a prompt comes up from Windows telling me to wait while it update my trackpad driver.

It automatically detected a lack of drivers and reinstalled the broken one before I could do anything about it. How do I stop this from happening?

Trying to get it on my laptop now, but the stupid thing is hanging up on checking for updates. Currently troubleshooting.

So did anyone figure out a hack or something to get OneDrive to show files that aren't offline? The "Availability" column is still there in File Explorer so I feel like the functionality hasn't been removed, just hidden.

Guys what's an "ugprade install"?

Im using a fix to get "Something Happened" fixed, and the fix says:

"You have to do an upgrade install so your Windows 7/8/8.1 license gets converted into a Windows 10 license."

So.. no help on m Surface Pro not updating huh.

It downloads, installed... then goes to a blank screen for a long time before restarting back to Windows 8.1, needing to redownload again.

Upgrade went fine. No issues thus far. Now I'm just tweaking my settings and getting things in order.

So I'm guessing it's safe to delete Windows Live Essentials? Looks like it's been made obsolete.

Windows Defender is like an overbearing parent.

There's still no alternative for Windows Movie Maker!

Actually, the last version of Movie Maker sucked so good riddance.

I've upgraded all 3 of my machines with the media creation tool now. My server and laptop required an ISO (which I just ran mounted in both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7) and my main desktop installed just fine with the 'upgrade now' choice.

The only problem I've run into so far is having to run DDU on the gaming desktop and installing the Nvidia drivers from their site.

It runs waaaay better than Windows 7 on my server. I don't think I'll do clean installs on any of them as they seem to be fine (all activated too). I was already confident enough that I did disk cleanup and deleted previous installations for space.

Yep just spring for an SSD for windows + some programs and use a standard hdd as another drive if possible.

Also I figure I already know the answer to this but I'm helping my brother build a computer and have a windows 7 key. I assume I have to download/install windows 7 then upgrade to 10 right?

hey if I buy Minecraft on my laptop from windows store can I also have It on my desktop or is there some restrictions in place or something?

Sorry to ask this again in the same day, but it's really important, and nobody responded.

I need to upload a file to mega, and win10 isn't letting me saying i need permission from the file owner or admin.
But i'm the only one who uses my comp, and i'm the admin. Can someone help, this is important. Please.

Same problem on one installation.

Still looking into it, so I feel your pain.

Solved!

I had a troublesome Realtek 8192 pci-e wireless card in this setup that I always disabled.

Finally decided to rip the machine out and replace the card with a Broadcom one.

Setup no longer hangs at 6% for eternity at the installing features and drivers phase.

One solution is to disable your wifi card in the UEFI BIOS if possible or just take it out.

...the fuck is my WIN10 Microsoft?

Its on my SP3 and a backup laptop but still waiting to go on my main PC at home.

I wanted my home PC to be the first one I installed it on in case of any hiccups because I use the other two for work during the day. And it'll end up being the last.

One thing that really annoys me is the removal of the OneDrive App. I use OneDrive for my work files and liked having the app shortcut on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen for 1-click access. Now they've done away with the app and moved OneDrive access into File Explorer and now I've got to do 2-clicks instead of one. Yeah..first world problems I know but its really annoying. I have not found a way to pin OneDrive on the bottom taskbar. If someone has this knowledge, please share !!

So I'm going to ask this one more time in here. I've been in the preview program for about a month now through numerous updates, I get an e-mail from Microsoft saying preview people get upgraded first.

Was I supposed to get an update yesterday as I didn't get anything.

Edit: Nevermind, I think you mean something else.

So there literally wasn't a single update since 10120? Seems odd that Microsoft would send me the email yesterday letting me know i'd get the update first then.

Hello Windows Insider,

We have begun rolling out the public release of Windows 10 to the world, starting with our valued Windows Insiders. This is a hugely significant milestone for Windows and, thanks to feedback from Insiders like you, we're proud to say that this will be our best Windows release ever! Check out Terry's blog for details on this public release.

Is that just bad wording then? I got this e-mail yesterday.
