Is there a way to change the horrendous log in background (the one you only see when you enter your password) Changing the lockscreen is easily made under personalization. Can you change the other one? This is what I mean :

Currently using a bit of Edge, it's looks nice, but limited. No extensions, no assigning start page to home, new tabs to webs but most of all, my most useful tool of the scroll button is non existent so far. Can't use it for new tabs, home buttons, use it in bookmarks to open bookmark folder rather than go through all of them individually.

I might stick with it a while longer depending how I put up with the limitations. Did a few tests and it's definitely a faster, smoother experience than chrome and firefox.

I still kind of prefer chrome but it looks ugly as it's currently not scaled correctly.

As for the OS itself, it's going to take me a while to get used to. Using two screens is better than W7 as it actually has a task bar on the second screen now. Don't quite get the use of the app bar and wish it can be resized smaller horizontally

How are programs like autocad and solidworks runnning in windows 10?

Not sure about autocad but SW seems to run fine. I haven't messed around with complex shapes/simulations so far.

So I upgraded from the Insider build and Edge is force closing every time I try to open it. Any ideas of what mighty be wrong? Already restarted the PC but the problem prersists.

Downloaded the media tool and can't get past the screen after it asks you whether you want to upgrade or do a fresh install. i just get the double something happened screen. Microsoft should be lambasted for creating such a fucking awful piece of UI design on a flagship product in 2015.

Seriously tho, the interface is freaking nice. Makes me appreciate the metro apps now that they can be windowed.

Change the administrative language of the system to English(US) and delete the content within the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Signed up for the Win 10 update yesterday. About how long does it take until my spot in the download queue is ready? I'm assuming it downloads in the background like a windows update, but that must take a while since it says it's 3 GB, and put on top of that my awful internet speeds.

I know I'm supposed to get a notification, but what exactly is ready for me at that moment. The install? Or am I simply ready to begin downloading Win 10?

Apparently they're "working with their partners to ensure that Windows 10 is ready for my particular PC." I'm guessing my laptop is part of a couple of machines that are still being worked on for Windows 10 compatibility? I have a Lenovo Y580 for anyone that might know.

What sound card do you have? My PC has pretty standard parts but I was wondering if my Soundblaster Z was possibly holding up my upgrade notification.

Your Sound Blaster Z should be fine. I didn't have any problems, and issues people had during the technical preview seem to have been fixed.

Remember, the Windows 10 rollout is going to take weeks.

Still getting error messages on shutdown sometimes for every installation.

Right now, Windows just ignores them, but it's troubling.

i asked before but no answer so far. anyone know why the system thing needs so much ram?

im on a microsoft surface pro 3

Probably grabbing drivers and things? Check the processes and see WHAT system level things are being ran?

If you're getting code 80240020, follow these directions and the install for Windows 10 should start. I did it and it worked the first time.

My laptop is completely bricked after trying to do a reset of Windows 10. I'm trying to do an advanced bootup by pressing F12 but it's not working.

Any advice?

Also, fuck Microsoft.

Did that. Same thing happened. I am going ti try the reg edit, but I shouldn't have to given they say in their email do x if you don't want to wait.

It's because you're not included in the current wave of upgrades. You either have to wait or edit your registry. Microsoft's error message is particularly unhelpful in problem solving this

For some reason my account is not being recognized as administrative.

I just went to the settings in the Windows store and the option to turn off automatic updates for apps is greyed out and says contact your system administrator to change this setting.

My account is the only account on the pc and when I go to users my account is listed as an administrator.

I know you're being sarcastic, but Windows does regrab drivers. It happened to me. I have no idea why it did that when the installer grabbed the drivers themselves, but given the buggy nature the installer had (where my GPU had issues until Windows redownloaded them and then I manually forced it to install it again) it's probably something to do with the upgrade.

Unless you clean installed in which case... uh... probably still the same thing, given the nature this launch has been IMO.

fair enough! could be true

I opened Lightroom on my laptop today and my entire systems color settings went to bizarro shit and I have no idea how to get it back to anything close to real colors. I want to cry right now because this laptop screen was the best calibrated display I have, and I don't think I'll get it back.

I can't see any of the gray on GAF right now, and if I move the Brightness/Gamma/Contrast sliders around to get the gray back, all the rest of my colors get crushed.

I'm going to bed upset with Windows 10.

This is what I suspected, but they should not be sending out emails telling people what to do when it doesn't work.

I'm having the problem where my Surface Pro 2 refuses to Sleep when running Win10. It seems to be a widely reported problem from a quick Google which MS has tried to address with a firmware update which has not been successful for a lot of users. It's annoying as hell having to shut my SP2 all the way down to stop it draining my battery. I hope it's addressed soon.

I have the same issue. At times putting the cover up will make it go into sleep mode but other times it just won't and restarting doesn't seem to fix it. Very frustrating.

Typically windows allocates tons of ram and frees it up for programs when needed

On my SP3 in Win8.1, i just loaded task manager and it had over 2GB allocated (which it subsequently freed up seconds after loading task manager)

I'd only be concerned if you see it allocating beyond the full amount (like into the page file which you can see in the memory tab)

I'm trying to change it as well. As far as I'm aware, there isn't any easy way to do it. I saw an app for it, but it looks like it can cause havoc on your machine.

Is anyone else having and issue where typing in the chrome URL bar the letters showing up are very delayed from the time I type to the time it shows. Like 3-4 seconds. It's not the computer freezing because as I type the auto suggestions continue to change but I can't see what I'm typing in the URL bar. This didn't happen until I upgraded. Could be a chrome issue or an AMD issue I imagine. I've been noticing small little glitchy video display things, just in the resizing animations and things like that. Radeon 7850.

My windows explorer is crashing after a few minutes keeping me from doing anything. Any idea what is causing it?

Dunno about your other permission issues, but you can right click the Downloads folder in My Computer and set it to whatever you like under the "Location" tab. Same thing for Music, Pictures, Video and similar.

Oh nice, changed that, thanks for the heads up.

What are the permission issues you're running into? What are you changing?

Well at first I couldn't save or delete anything to/from those folders, and after seeing that it might be permissions having an effect I tried to changed them. At first it didn't let me save the changes, but now seems to be just fine?

Its just that I really shouldn't have had to mess around with permissions when I only have one account you know?
