Just decrypt that ESD you downloaded to an ISO then mount and install. Its so simple.

I think you need to upgrade first before you can do a clean install via an iso.

"Please be aware that you cannot use the free upgrade offer to perform a clean install on first attempt. You must first upgrade from the qualifying version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 (whether you do it through Windows Update or using the .ISO file). Ensure the upgrade is completed successfully and then ensure that it is activated. You can then proceed to do a clean install by using recovery media or using the Reset function in Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC (Get Started)."

When you mount the ISO you can run it from the OS to perform an upgrade.

I'm quite excited to try Cortana and the Xbox app. I was just watching Phil Spencer go over the app and there's some cool features in there like saving the last 30 seconds of any game running on PC and sharing it on your activity feed.

Right. You mount the ISO then it performs the upgrade based on that. Not a clean install.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I have every single update I can get from windows update, I still don't have the get windows 10 app.

What gives?

This doesn't really mean much, but I got slightly better performance in 3DMark Firestrike extreme with a slightly lower overclock on the GPU.

So there seems to be some (very) minor performance gains even in DX11.

http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/5532675/fs/5029759

Gonna try and match up the overclock with the old test and see how it goes soon.

I'm actually very interested to know how things go. Also interested to see how games I play that are more reliant than not on the performance of the CPU stack up on Windows 10.

Fun times ahead for someone like me who likes to experiment. :)

Does the folder just show up if you're "on the list" or do you have to do anything to get it to pre-download the upgade files?

I have 4 machines that are reserved, but I'm not seeing the hidden folder anywhere.

EDIT: Look like "Checking for Updates" may have triggered it. It is now showing up on the machine I'm remoted into now.

Anyone know if we can upgrade our technical previews with a valid Windows 8 key? If not, how long til the Technical Preview stops being usable?

I came home from work. Installed Windows updates. Reboot computer. $Windows.~BT appeared. was 140mb. I checked task manager and saw lots of network activity(53 Mbps). Network activity stopped. $Windows BT is at 3.32 GB and growing.

Ran the API test in 3DMark as well just for fun. DX12 needs to be a thing in every single game from now on. Difference in draw calls is crazy.

DX11 Multi-threaded draw calls per second 2 590 209

DX12 draw calls per second 18 295 444

Worked for me, just did it then ran Windows update and it found it.

God what a difference 0_o Amazing what they can achieve with software.

Can someone please let me know how I can have the little Windows 10 promo app test my hardware, so it can approve my machine to run Windows 10?
The background test it runs automatically can't be triggered by the UI, and doesn't seem to run more than once.

I think I asked four times in this thread, but nobody seems to know. Is there no way?

I had to get some updates and restart to get the folder.

Code:
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.203.638.0)

In case someone anybody else didn't have the folder.

I am not sure about that. I did a disk cleanup earlier today and erased 6.5 GB of data that was in a new category that I never saw before and was related to Windows Install. I deleted it and thought it would just redownload everything later.
Oh well. Looks like my disk cleanup came in the wrong time lol

Can someone please let me know how I can have Windows 10 manually test my hardware, so it can approve my machine to run Windows 10?

I think I asked four times in this thread, but nobody seems to know. Is there no way?

I don't think you can, but it will check when it tries to update anyway

What does it mean if a report isn't available?
Our servers run the report on a specific schedule. Depending on when your report is scheduled, it might take up to two weeks for the first report to appear. In the meantime, you can still reserve your upgrade. When it's time to start your upgrade to Windows 10, we'll run another report to make sure there aren't any problems with your apps, devices or PC. For more info about the system requirements for your PC, see Windows 10 system requirements.

How often does the report run?
The report runs automatically about once a month. If you've recently installed apps or devices, or made changes to your PC, the report might not reflect these changes.

I don't know, but quoting for visibility as I've seen you ask a few times and feel bad for you! :D

Is it required to have Windows fully up to date for it to start downloading 10? No BT folder is showing up on the laptop I have it reserved on, but then there are like 50 "important" updates waiting to be downloaded/installed.

I had to get some updates and restart to get the folder.

Code:
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.203.638.0)

Ugh, well I guess that answers my question. Hate updating this laptop, it's a 50/50 chance if 8.1 will crash during the "don't turn off your PC" part and I have to turn it off anyway.

I have a notice saying my Windows 10 Pro Update failed in Windows Update.

Should I restart like it suggests?

Well I tried an update with no success.

Still stuck at 6.33 size/4.80 on disk and Windows Update says my Windows 10 Pro Update has failed. Not sure what to do.

So will I have to re-download firefox and log into everything again? Quite a pain when there's so much faffing about with 2factauth.

If you still haven't got the folder downloaded this might help http://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3exx29/preload_windows_10_if_you_dont_have_the_folder/ (worked on my HP Stream 7 that didn't have the folder till tonight)

This did the trick. Now downloading!

I wonder how much free space will I need on a 32-bit version? I'm going to update a Win8.1 tablet, too, besides my main laptop, that only has between 3 and 4 GB of free space (depends on how much virtual memory is used), so I'm hoping that's enough...

Hehe, thank you!

Do you know how I could reserve it? I have no visible option to reserve in the promo app, and I figured this was because the report said my hardware didn't pass the test. (It ran as I booted Windows using VMware, and did not recognize VMware's drivers.)

run Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser in task scheduler
microsoft/windows/appliction experience

Mine shows as failed; I think that's what happens if you restart during the update, Irritatingly going to have to leave it for now :/

try right clicking on the icon and going to check upgrade status

Looking at my updates I see I keep getting an error 80240020

Got that twice.

I got this and 8024000e with around 4.80gb installed.

Edit: Ok, I will try waiting.

Code:
200	80240020	AutomaticUpdates	Failure	Content Install	Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80240020: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

Tried for fucking hours over here. Thanks man!

Just a question: do I have to reinstall drivers, software, etc. if I decide to upgrade from 8.1 to 10?

My apologies if it's been answered already

Also, how do we download it? I've reserved a copy already and it's July 29 here in Aus
