Windows update finished downloading then I got a pop up asking if I wanted to upgrade now or later, I hit now and the PC rebooted and started to copy over the files. It's currently stuck on a black screen so hopefully that's normal :D

Thanks. Is it the 29th where you are?

Sorry I just got home from work...how do I start the update process? I don't have that hidden folder people are talking about and I'm not sure what wuauclt.exe /updatenow: means.

preload, if you try to install will end with an error, guess we just have to wait then

Indeed, for those doing this day one, just wait until Microsoft notifies you that it's ready tomorrow or whenever they do.

Those (like me) waiting a few days/weeks, it'll just there waiting for you to pull the trigger. :D (again provided MS tells you that it's good to go)

Noob Q. Will installing Windows 10 act a bit like a refresh or factory reboot or w./e in that it'll fix certain problems you might have?

I'm actually excited for this. I've been running Win 7 and wasn't impressed with 8 enough to upgrade. But I'm ready for something new now, and I can't wait!

For my laptop I have everything backed up and got Lenovo's official Windows 10 drivers and utilities downloaded and ready to be installed. Just have to wait for the unlock and I'll dive into the installer.

By 10 minutes, yeah. UK.

Curently 76%, the screen went black with a visible cursor for awhile, if this happens to you just leave it, it's working and will reboot again on its own.

On my Windows 7 pc I noticed that there were updates available.

I opened Windows update and Windows explorer crashed and restarted.

I tried again. This time it opened and one important update was installed but four optional updates failed.

I wonder if this is a sign of things to come? :p

The old must die before the new can arrive.

And done, I'm in Windows 10. Now time to clean install! Make sure you don't use express settings unless you want Microsoft to know all your business like browsing data.

In windows update i have failed updates and in the update history "WIndows 10 upgrade failed" twice

Fml

I'm in the UK too, mine is 91% done.

So it's a midnight release.

Makes sense.

From what I am reading on reddit, the only reason it is failing is because it isn't time for it to update yet. Do you have the Windows BT folder?

Cortana is disabled by company policy whatever that means, but it won't let me activate her.

I did the early download trick and it failed updating, after a reboot windows now says my upgrade reserve is there and they will let me know when I can install it.

it's gone 12pm in the uk so I guess we do have to wait.

Yeah, from UK too so its 20 mins late

Folder is 6.42gb

So does this thing have an actual version of IE ? Or is just Edge ?

If no IE, can I put Edge in compatibility mode to emulate earlier versions. Can't run it otherwise.

There is an option in edge to open the page in internet explorer, or you can just run internet explorer instead of edge.

I'm having trouble finding the ESD file, can someone help me out so I can start a fresh install my PC is super slow after the upgrade.

Find it, it's in the hidden BT folder then sources.

So, my folder is at 5.9gb on the computer. Is that right? What do I do now, just wait?

On my laptop it won't go past 140mb, I'll just leave it until tomorrow.

Be warned some of you may get a problem with "Windows 10 cannot update the system reserved partition". This just happened to me when trying the trick mentioned earlier to download win 10. The problem lies in windows 7 having a data partition of only 100 meg in size. Turns out the trick needs the system reserved partition to be larger, about 450 meg is fine.
I had to use a tool called minitool to resize the data partition to 450 meg.
http://www.minitool.com/partition-manager/partition-wizard-home.html
http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/resize-partition.html (video of how to do the whole resize thing).
Just right click on the data part of your drive and click on resize. The select it to be about 450 megs. Apply it and allow it to restart windows. Once it's done it's thing you can do the win update trick and get downloading.
For windows 8 people this shouldn't be a problem.

It will be sluggish until all the post installation tasks have finished. Just wait a while and it will become snappy again.

downloaded and ran setup.exe says its missing boot.wim i guess thats the final thing that downloads when its unlocked?
