wuauclt.exe /updatenow did nothing for me.

I have every update installed on Windows 8.1, ran the command in admin, and I have 10+ GB of free space (this is a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet).

UPDATE: got it working, had to set updates to auto install.

So I just noticed that two of our work computers already have BT folders of about 5 gig - does that mean they've both stealthily downloaded the 10 installer in the background? Am I just waiting for Microsoft to throw a switch now to release it?

The third computer has no BT folder at all, but I noticed the drive had less than 5gb free, so figured that might be the reason.

I just tried the Reddit method and it's working, currently downloading it as we speak. I removed the folder in C: Windows, ran cmd under Admin and did the command. At first it didn't work, I restarted the laptop and then tried it all again and now it's downloading.

Yes. Unless you want to redownload the entire 5 GB folder and wait for it to decompress, you can follow the reddit method or just wait for Microsoft to upgrade your PC. I suggest you wait. The decompressing/preparing for installation step takes a long time (not surprising as decompressing a 5 GB folder will take a long time)

FYI, don't be surprised if the wuauclt.exe /updatenow ends in an error. Reboot and try running the command again. Issue seems to be with the sha1 hash of the file download since the Windows update servers are getting hammered right now.

You can't uninstall half of the bloatware apps, the option is greyed out.

Yup, I'm in no hurry to mess with the process, especially on work computers. Thanks for the info!

I've got the update failed error. Do I need to do this or will it sort itself out eventually?

Some people are saying that if you went into the C:\$Windows.~BT file and clicked setup thats the reason for the upgrade failing.

If so fuck, i did it earlier today

Anyone have any advice I did a clean install of Windows 7 yesterday to make sure that I was ready for this and I'm not getting the windows 10 thing on the task bar computer is fully updated and I have tried that command prompt thing but still nothing.

I didn't do that and I have failed.

Try contacting MS regarding it if it's past midnight in your area.

Since I already have build 10240, I don't have to do shit right?

Not necessarily, there is a Day 1 patch that is included with the release that is going to be downloaded on Wednesday, so unless you don't want the Day 1 fixes....you can just wait for your PC to download these patches by themselves....

I'm sure this has been asked, but if I upgrade will this delete my programs like Word and Photoshop? I have student licenses for both and the re-install can be a hassle.

Well other then that, I don't need to download a whole new build as far as I'm aware. At least I hope not lol.

How the hell are you guys getting the update to install already?

I'm on the East Coast and still nothing here... It's fully downloaded, but nothing is happening.

My first crash came from trying to open coretemp (cpu monitor). I could move my cursor but I couldn't do anything else.
I'd make sure the mouse settings are the same once you install. Mine felt a bit different and I had to increase the speed.

Is the deadline to reserve a free copy of windows 10 tonight? Or can I still click "reserve free copy" in the future and not have to pay?

edit: oops so the deadline is july 29th NEXT year?
