Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

I tried the reddit method including setting the updates to automatic, having the update screen open while running the command prompt thingy, and deleting everything from the Windows>SoftwareDistribution>download folder, and it STILL didn't work.

Gah I don't want to wait, because I have a feeling it may not come unless I force it.

I didn't initially get the Windows 10 icon on the taskbar until I forced it with the command prompt a few weeks ago, so I have a feeling I might have to force this too

Doing great!

Stepped away from email and the internet for a couple hours, went for a run, got some food, now signed back in and doing stuff / watching stuff happen behind the scenes :-)


Seeing people find ways to install early is fun, but hey, if you have problems, don't say I didn't warn you!

This is where I am now. I have a $Windows.~BT folder with 4.26GB of stuff (this is only a x86 Dell Tablet). So youre telling me to delete this 4+ GB of stuff and try again?

Were you guys on the beta driver or the offficial? I can't get my BT folder to exceed 140mb and there's no big file being downloaded in my software dist/download folder (or subfolders).
 
Thanks all. The deleting softwaredistribution/downloads folder and running the cmd stuff worked.

Downloading on my Vaio 13 and HP Stream mini now.


Wonder if it'll show up on DreamSpark tomorrow morning as well. :)
 
Still setting it up but I really like having a solid blue taskbar, wasn't liking the default.

Well...Do I upgrade now or do I upgrade when I build my new Skylake setup next month?

I purchased a Win 8 Pro key so I guess I can install it on a new setup, but it will probably be a pain in the ass to release the key once I install it already.
 
do I really need update KB 2952664? sounds like it's necessary for me to be able to upgrade and yet I can't get this to ever install. It's a common issue so I'm hoping it's not..
 
so im fully upgraded to windows 10 :) but now I want to do a clean install and format all the stuff, how do I go about making ISO or a bootable flashdrive in order to do a clean install, also when i do that do I use my windows 8 key??

So then when is the upgrade supposed to release to the people that pre-loaded? Like I said: I want to get rid of Windows 8 and it's shitty UI ASAP.

You can reset windows 10 in the settings.
 
The way people are being so impatient for anything new is hilarious

I feel bad for being caught up in it. I shouldn't read this thread :lol:
 
So, I'm waiting for the normal release, when that happens, how do I skip all the upgrading, and just move right to ISO clean install? Also, how does it determine if your product code is genuine with this method? Do you just put in your Windows 7/8 code once 10 installed?
 
I'm currently downloading Windows 10 on two of my 8.1 Pro machines. My windows 7 machine has no luck so far even with deleting the download software distribution folder contents, using the windows update fix it, and running the command line.

That's why I'm waiting for it to happen naturally, but I would be pretty sad if there's any truth to the statement that some of us might be waiting a couple of weeks to be able to upgrade. I'm patient, but maybe not that patient!
 
Anyone with a Creative soundcard? I'm using an XFI XtremeGamer and I'm getting no sound at all. I have installed the latest driver, it's set to default and shows up in the device manager.
 
Anyone get the update yet without doing any tricks? I'm just going to wait, but if there isn't much chance of me getting the update in the next couple hours (EST) then I'll just go to bed sad.

it takes 5 seconds to get access to it now.. or get it at an unknown time

Instructions:

DELETE all contents from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow"

Voila, windows 10 will begin to download. No idea if installation will work though lol
 
Did the Reddit thing of deleting the Download folder and it worked for me. My previous $Windows.~BT folder was 5.8GB and it downloaded the whole thing this time. It re-downloaded and did its thing inside Windows Update. Restarted itself and it's currently at 92% of upgrading.

Is there any way to use a Windows 7 laptop key for the desktop? I read those keys are locked to the laptop, but is there any way to transfer them to a usable key for a fee or something?
