Windows update should download the video drivers.

I keep getting errors though so I'm stuck at 1024 x 768 right now which is really annoying.

Just go to nvidia.com and then download the appropriate driver for your graphics card. Upon initial installation, this is what I always do. Then after your drivers are installed, then install Geforce Experience.

Ughh the update failed after a restart...

What error? Mine said it "couldn't find boot.wim

Error code: 0x8007002"

I'm wondering if it's still downloading (I have no way of knowing if it is) or if the download got corrupted or what.

80240020

I scheduled the upgrade for tomorrow, the SotN race is just too good to be interrupted.

OK, so the BT folder and the stuff from Windowa/Softwareblabla and running the command prompt command worked.

I was stuck on Update Failed, it re-downloaded everything and is now installing without a hitch.

Ir sucks to download 6gb again, but patience is not my strong suit.

Had this exact issue earlier (~7pm central US). My original download from Windows Update was ~3.something GB. It extracted out to be 5.8GB in the $windows~BT folder. Told me it was missing boot.wim. Just tried the latest reddit trick posted a couple pages ago, and my new Win Update download was 5.3GB. So almost 2 more gigs. It's currently extracting into my BT folder, 3.9GB and climbing. Give the latest trick a try. You currently don't have a complete install, why not see if it works.

All of those errors are expected if you're trying to launch the upgrade in unsupported ways.

So, yeah. Just wait.

Some of you got through anyway, great! Still doesn't mean it'll be flawless.

you first need to clear the download folder.

yep i changed the settings to download updates and install auto, typed the command in CMD but i didn't click enter, i hit "check for updates" and entered the command in.. now its downloading.

80 percent downloaded so far.

I'm sitting here waiting for my desktop and laptop to start downloading the update. I might just have to leave my system on during the day tomorrow. This is really exciting.

My BT folder was full and still deleting the download folder then starting again seems to have worked for me. It seems the download is often corrupted or fails. I assume the BT folder is where the download gets decompressed to. I have a suspicion it's to do with stuff already being in the download folder due to other updates installing while it's downloading W10 or something. But that's kind of a guess based on my update experience earlier.

Temporarily disable your antivirus real time protection to speed up the initial install process FYI (aka during the preparing installation phase)

I did this, I had to restart because I was getting a black screen. Then this is what the update tells me.

• NVIDIA driver update for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 - Error 0x80070002

Did you see the progress via Windows Update?

Also, are you set to automatically install updates?

Yes and yes. It finished and said something about needing attention and me being a windows insider preview member, I am one, but never installed one of their builds.

Anyone had any issues with data loss during installation? I'm doing a quick backup of my files just to be sure (and 95% of everything that matters is on Dropbox), but just wondering if I need to be super thorough making sure absolutely everything I care about is copied to another HDD

All that stupid fucking around trying to force it, and lo an behold 2 after midnight it firers right up... lol here we go!

Mine's been sitting at 5.95Gb Size 4.42Gb on Disk so I dunno if it's still downloading or what. But this shit is annoying. I'd rather have hammered their download server right now at midnight on the East Coast instead of waiting for them to stagger this update.

I want to be rid of Windows 8 so badly. Oh god. *cries*

So do I just keep checking that Windows Update icon on the desktop to see when Win10 is available? Or will it just pop up whenever?

Man, I need a new laptop. Screen resolution has always been too low. Windows 10 should look so much more crisp than what I'm seeing.

If it makes you feel any better, my update failed again after it initialized the installation. Same error code, same issue with boot.wim. I guess the re-download trick only works if your PC is already flagged in the system for the rollout. By any chance are you trying this on a Surface Pro 2 (or any Surface Pro for that matter)?

No, not on a Surface. Nor have I done the command line "trick." I'm simply waiting impatiently to get rid of the Windows 8 cancer on my drive. D:
