I think it messed with my BT folder?
Looks like you don't know how to create a bootable media drive. Basically, this tool is supposed to create a bootable usb or dvd so that you install Windows when you restart your computer.
An easier tool to use to do this same process is Rufus.

(it's supposed to download and create a bootable install medium for you)

It let me pick "Upgrade this PC" as an option. SO I'm going through that right now.
Oof.
Any suggestions on which nvidia driver to use? I'm stuck at 1024x768.
Oh alright, neat. I think it gave me two options. One was "Upgrade to Windows 10", and the other was "Create Bootable Install Medium" or whatever it was called. I press upgrade.
I can still do a straight up format and install from a DVD/Flash Drive afterwards though, right? Even if I am upgrading from a Windows 8 key?
You probably didn't have real drivers, and instead had in-box drivers, if it was all slow and choppy.
Just another reason to wait for official release instead of trying to shove it in early![]()
after you upgrade, yes

My progress bar is stuck on preparing for installation. The bar isn't moving at all.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10So when is MS gonna stop being annoying and release an ISO, I never got the Get Windows 10 app and could never fix that so that's pretty annoying
How does the virtual desktop thing work?

I currently have 2 Windows 8.1 Pro licenses that aren't being used. I know there's allegedly 1 year to upgrade free, so is there anything to be gained by loading these up in a virtual machine and upgrading? I'm uncertain how the product keys work now.
Thanks
Yikes, a reboot gives me a blank screen after the Windows logo. Greaaaaaat.A restart fixed it for me. Looks like it installed the new display driver automatically and it needed a restart.
If that doesn't work, check if you've got the new driver.
redownloaded windows 10 3 times through the update and kept receiving errors. Hopefully this tool works.

on the one hand, no, because they're tied to hardware. on the other hand, maybe, because every activation scheme since the first with xp has let you work around hardware changes with a few extra steps
you have a year to wait and see how it shakes out
I get this when I try to upgrade using the tool.

And then something happens. It could be good or bad... but something does happen.Sometimes something happens. Something sometimes happens.

Do an update first before resetting for a clean install guys. Just to tie the Windows key to your account.
The update was seamless, everyfile remained intact right down to my browser history and desktop icon positions. But Windows was acting choppy so I'm doing a reset for clean install.
