lol wut

Started the installer and the only option is to nuke everything and start over, because my "current version of Windows might be installed in an unsupported directory." What is this supposed to mean? My Win7 is just on my little SSD. No partitioning, no dual booting, nothing weird.

Fuck it, it's too late for this nonsense. Good night and good luck, folks. :p

If you have the default Windows folders like appdata, and users set to be on different drives to Windows, it won't work.

sorry if this just a basic question, but do we really need to use microsoft account when upgrading from win 8.1 to win 10? since somehow i still prefer & want to use local account & doesn't care that much of microsoft account sync stuff etc.

no! Local account works just fine.

So, dont have the folder or any of the updates for 10, says im reserved though. The tray icon dissapeared after a reboot after 12am. Just my luck that I'm probably fucked in some way. Or have to wait for 4 months before I'm eligible.

Edge might be great one day, but without any sort of adblocking it still runs much slower than IE.

The Photos app... I can't believe they shipped it like this. Forgetting everything else wrong with it, it shows all my pro photos as 1600x1067 for some reason (even under File info)

They aren't.

How do I check my video drivers? I assume they were uninstalled because I started up at less than 1080p resolution and it showed a message saying the Nvidia drivers were being uninstalled.

When I loaded it up this was the wallpaper it gave me

lzEDua0.jpg

It knows me so well already ='}

So i did the direct link thing from Microsoft's site about installing the stuff on a flash does how do i go about doing that or does it give me option during the install? its 82% right now downloading. Not too worried if it borks me and i have to format because windows is only installed on my 125gb SSD drive because that drive is solely for the purpose of booting windows.

Worked for me too. PC received the notification to download and install, laptop (which I want to test this out on first before installing on the PC) didn't. Do this trick and boom, it's there in control panel, downloading.

Downloaded pretty quickly, but the progress bar for "preparing for installation" is moving at a snails pace

I'd give it a day or two to see if it continues to work well. After that, get rid of it using Disk Cleanup.

If you don't have anything left from your old install that you would want to go into Windows.old to retrieve, I believe it should be fine to delete it.

Yes, but it removes the ability to "undo" the upgrade. Maybe wait a few days to make sure everything is working fine.

Thanks guys!

I'm officially running Windows 10. Everything works great so far.

The Photos app seems to be working fine here.

Yeah my download is shooting along quite nicely, already at 25%.

I'm going to do the upgrade and then do a clean install on this laptop, it's gone snail pace slow recently and it's just used as a Skype and Internet machine (PC is for gaming) and it's overdue a factory restore so why not do that with Windows 10!

Does anyone know - Will I have to source my own ISO or have Microsoft put them up for download?

I'm just going to get the ISO. The Anytime Upgrader refuses to work because of my 980 Ti even after installing the hotfix.

Or maybe this is an omen.

Calculator doesn't work, sunnuva...

Downloaded calculator plus for now, but goddamn that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

It looks like Paul Thurrott has posted the link to the official ISO:

I'm currently stuck on "Please Wait" on the upgrade screen. I'm about to pass out from sleepiness.

Edit: Here we go! 😱
