You fucking can't. They removed all title bar customization options. There are some hacky methods to change the color, but the text will be black no matter what so good luck reading it.

oh wow, now that's dumb.

I just exited netflix and the chrome top bar is so bright it destroyed my eyes

also apparently I had a Microsoft Account SOMEWHERE with a fuckin Space Ghost Coast to Coast profile pic that is probably from the early 2000s or something?

I just put in my gmail and usual password and it picked it up

now everything is kinda doubled. If I open up the Email app I get 2 accounts, Outlook, and Gmail, but both with the same Google email

im confused, but whatever

Can someone explain how the windows key works? Windows 7 was installed on the PC I purchased. If I upgrade now but later buy an SSD and want to install the OS on that drive, how will it work? As far as I can tell, I don't have my windows key registered on any website with Microsoft.

I wanted to create a usb installer, so I ran the tool on an 8 gb stick, not expecting it to format the thing, lost a bunch of stuff I wanted to keep that I didn't have backed up elsewhere because that WAS the backup.

You won't even need a key later on. Just replace the drive and use Bootable media to install.

It just has to be upgraded officially before hand. Microsoft keeps track of your motherboard and the license. Just don't change your motherboard.

What are you guys using for profile pics? The little circle for the picture in the start menu is so god damn small that anything I put there looks like garbage.

never use flash drives as a backup, they aren't reliable and break/get lost easily

Yeah I just made the USB stick, and it didn't warn about format.

I made a Windows 8 stick with the same tool recently, and it definitely did warn then.

Can anyone help me?

I got a Windows 8.1 Single language because that what has been preloaded on my laptop (Lenovo Z50-70). Now I've upgraded to Windows 10 and everything works fine. My problem is I forgot to change my region / language / locale from Japanese to English before the upgrade so now the Windows store, and everything it updated changed language into Japanese. I've already changed the locale / region to English / United States but my app are still in Nihonggo. Changing this to English in win 8.1 changes my apps back to english but now they are still Nihonggo.

How can I make them change language back to English?

I am using some awesome hero emblem pics I found on deviant art. They look awesome as backgrounds and profile pics. Fit the circle just right.

You still can choose online and offline folders - what sucks is that you can't see your online folders. Apparently it confused stupid people to see folders that weren't actually on your HDD. I don't really see why I should have to put up with a gimped OneDrive because some people don't understand how it works.

Overall I like W10 though. it doesn't feel quite as snappy in some places as W8, but that largely seems down to slightly more elaborate animations. The start screen 'fades in' slowly compared to just popping up like in W8. I'm not using the full screen start screen but it's noticeable if I do turn it on.

But then there are little things which I like - better window management and taskbar, windowed apps - and I really like the new Start Menu and I wasn't sure I would.

I'm guessing most of the niggles will be worked out as its updated. There are always niggling things when an OS is new
You can turn off animations in the settings menu.

Were they both x64?

Yes.

Did you use Windows 10 Home or Single Language?

I can't update to windows 10 on my tablet pc because it says my Intel graphics media is not supported. Somehow, I find it hard to believe intel chips are not supported, even if mine is an atom. My tablet is running on atom z2670. Any workarounds?

Umm if it formated before it is safe to assume it will do it again.

Pretty much anytime you are making a Bootable USB be prepared for it to be formatted.

it's up to Intel, if they don't ever make compatible drivers you're shit out of luck

it might not be capable at all though

Anyone else update and cannot toggle WiFi? With ethernet I get Internet UT for some reason WiFi is a no go for me. It will not toggle on and even in network settings sliding the bar over from off to o just goes right back to off. This is do weird. And I did do updates through ethernet and got the latest network driver through acer.

Fixed the partition bug and the not enough space bug for clean install and upgrade.

Simply maked the HHD where Windows 8.1 was installed as the Active Partition.

Thanks for the response.

So if I replace the motherboard I'm screwed and will need to buy a new key? There is a year to upgrade to windows 10 for free, correct? What if I wait and upgrade my motherboard and everything else in the next few months. Can I then use my current Win 7 key from my old system on my new system and upgrade to Win 10?

I honestly haven't had to ever deal with OS upgrades before. I'd like to avoid paying a license fee if it isn't necessary.

Question: Are you in Halo 5?

I hate that some of the apps cannot be removed. At least in Windows 8.1 you can remove everything except for the Store for obvious reasons.

I have no use for Calendar and Mail. I already have Outlook 2013.

Been using this since last night. Seems okay but my two biggest complaints are:
1. The solid white used in place on the semi transparent windows 7 theme. Don't really understand this change. Would look so much better if the windows used the taskbar look.
2. My live tiles don't work. At first they just remained solid colors. Now I can't even launch most of the apps. They crash immediately after clicking on them.

Is your key a oem or retail?

Worst case you could call MS and say you had to replace or upgrade your motherboard. Sometimes they will hook you up.

Take for example office keys. They have a guarantee. One time I had one ordered from Amazon that was put under the wrong ms account. Microsoft wanted to refund me the cost of the key to buy another on their store because they couldn't move the license between ms accounts. They are sometimes like a box of chocolates.

Is there any way to get rid of the 1px bar at the bottom of my screen? And is there any way to increase the size of the icons on the taskbar?

moving windows around with the touch pad is super odd now

I hold one finger on left click and move through the touchpad with the other to move the window around but it's all fucked up. It moves either too slow or to wherever it wants

anyone else experiencing this on laptops?

I do not see the option to download Windows 10. Control Panel still tells me it'll let me know when it's ready. Am I doing something wrong?

Seriously am I the only one who cannot turn on WiFi at all on my laptop? Like it cannot be toggled on, updated and everything still wifi will not turn on. I get inter et through ethernet though. Help someone?

the borders of firefox are some shade of blinding white no matter the theme i use in firefox, anyway to fix that?

no. it's the same on chrome and it bums me the fuck out

there's no window tile customization anymore

check SPIDF's post here tho

You can't unfortunately, at least not officially. You can follow a guide like this, which is pretty simple, to do it if you want though.

I wonder where setup logs its process.

I have one machine that has trouble upgrading as it stalls at 6% in the second stage when the OS installs drivers and devices.

Left it on overnight for 10 hours, and it didn't budge, so I assumed fatal error.

A reboot will force the machine to restore the previous OS.

it works fine on mine but i've had a window saying WiFi "needs fixing" pop up 2 times now

having no issues tho. no idea why that shows up

Quick blurb for those on MSI laptops, and those who boot off the mSATA:

You may have to remove your data drive and do the update. After I started the update and restarted, Windows no longer was able to see my mSATA, so I had to pull out the HDD and force it to only see my mSATA.

I think this has been answered before, so sorry about that, but I used the USB option and it can't verify my Windows 8 key. What should I do?

I have two computers with windows 10, and the computer that uses wireless to connect to the internet has wifi options, the other computer that uses ethernet doesn't have the wifi option.

There's a reddit post explaining how to enable a dark theme, doesn't seem to be working for everyone though. https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/3f0n2u/windows_10_enable_dark_mode/?sort=new

Fixed Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines

Turns out a Steam version of the game was needed in my case.

Cost me 21$ but ah well.

Still boots and reboots slowly sometimes but my computer is like almost 4 years old now so no biggie.

It's a sleek little OS.

Did you upgrade?

It just takes time to activate sometimes. Is it showing that it can't verify the key.

Or are you trying to put in the windows 8 key during the windows 10 install? Cause that won't work. You need to upgrade first then wipe it after.

i'm in "something happened" hell so i'll just wait a couple of days I guess

dad saying he's gettin the same thing on his windows 8 laptop but I sent him the creation tool

also, no ideas on this?:

Really? Can I force it somehow? And how can I do a clean install using the same key?
