Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Went to change Synaptics in the registry so I can have double tap as Middle Click, as I had to do with 8.1, and it turns out the drivers reset on start up every time. Total pain in the arse
 
My biggest annoyance so far is Skype just won't shut off unless I kill the process in task manager. Anyone else not able to shutdown Skype normally? Other than that Windows 10 has been running like a dream nice and smooth.
 
So the message from the white W10 icon on my taskbar has changed this morning,I no longer have a blue background where it tells me its ready and click ok for a future notification but just a white window saying reserve is done,I have nothing else to do and I will be notified to start it on my PC or Tablet when ready...I checked my Windows Update history though and it says the Dynamic upgrade for W10 failed this morning...no rush though,I will wait it out,leaving tomorrow for a week anyway.

Off the top of my head, so it might be wrong, but it's in the area:

Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options

Kept freezing up for me last night, so it's probably tied to the MS store servers.
 
a few issues i've found so far:

1. typing text into the address bar in chrome doesn't show any text. need to click out of the box to get it to show.

2. can't use my pin to log in anymore. it says it's not the correct pin. so need to type my password in every time.

3. my boot time is much longer. i have a 7200rpm hd but compared to 8.1 it feels much longer. been thinking of getting an ssd anyway so gonna do a complete clean install on to it some point this weekend.
 
I have a bug where Start and Search don't respond to button press or being clicked on. This is totally throwing off how I use my laptop.

I also have a thing called CCX Diagnostic Utility that crashes Windows 10 when opened and I can't find a way to uninstall it. It sits in the Control Panel and doesn't show up on the list of Programs I can uninstall.
 
The latest windows 10 NVIDIA driver did not play nice after I upgraded. I have a GTX 580 and a GT 640 using a multi-monitor setup, and apparently there is a known issue using both cards on windows 10 with the current drivers. So i reverted back for now. O well, might try to get WIn10 in a VM for awhile.
 
Loving most of 10 so far but one thing is driving me crazy. My blu tooth mouse (microsoft brand) wont scroll. The wheel does nothing no matter what settings I adjust.

Anyone else have this problem? I would like to scroll my web pages again.

Since Windows 7 actually. Skype will only budge to force, it's a constant pain in my sides.

About 3. Happened to me too until I did a 'Refresh' via settings, now it's working great (it will delete installed applications, though). A clean install on an SSD will obviously be excellent, too.
 
Buggy and janky (in other words, it's still Windows) but definitely a worthwhile improvement on 8.1. Hope they slowly replace the legacy stuff though - things like the old control panel are still hanging around in some form, although I guess getting rid of it would probably break a ton of applications.
 
Alright, so I left my computer on overnight to finish the upgrade while I slept. So what do I wake up to? A black screen with mouse cursor.

So...let me get this straight. Microsoft skipped Windows 9 to avoid the stigma of their even numbered systems being pieces of shit, but still ended up making a piece of shit? I am so very disappointed Microsoft.

So, er...

When I first installed it everything was fine, but after I've shut my PC down and turned it back on again task manager refuses to start. I get to it by right clicking the taskbar, but nothing happens for a few minutes and then it throws up this message:

Anyone else having this issue?

You don't need that. I just did a clean install from a USB because I figured it was time since I've been upgrading from insider builds for months. When it asks for a key, just skip and keep skipping them till you get to the desktop. It will then activate automatically, no key required.
 
Upgrade was smooth and then I did my clean install and everything was activated automatically. Pretty nice. Now I gotta get the software I need back.

It happens. Either wait to see if it moves past or force your PC to restart. It'll continue as it should afterwards
 
So apparently my PC at work downloaded all the files it needed but it still hasn't prompted me to update.
It did tell me i had to restart to install an important update earlier today, but nothing happened.

Should I just wait ?

Someone had this problem earlier. Do you get the narrator if you press Windows+Enter?
 
My GeForce Experience is not working. I downloaded it from the official forum and support page, I even did a clean install, so I manage to successfully install the drivers but when I open GFE the program won't start up and keep being stuck on the loading screen. Not a big deal, but I use that program for FPS counter on screen and to record video.

Any solution?
 
Only reason I have trepidation about upgrading is because I use specific versions of specific programs (CC Cleaner or SpyBot) for example. If I upgrade will I able able to use those same versions by running in comparability mode or no?

Keeping in mind the versions I run are already being run in compatibility for windows 7 to vanilla 8
 
Sorry if I missed it. Anyone experiencing system-wide stutter? Literally every time on the second the screen micro stutters, whether it's on the desktop or in a game. I'm using a laptop with Intel HD graphics and an Geforce 940m that kicks in when I play games or do more demanding stuff. Not sure if the culprit is Windows 10 or the Intel HD drivers/settings.

edit: Turns out flux was the problem (a program that yellows the screen at night for easier viewing). Definitely didn't cause stutter in Windows 7 but I guess it has issues in Windows 10. So everything runs smoothly without it!
 
Got a question hopefully someone will be able to answer. I have a windows 8 and a 8.1 key on 2 of my machines. I've upgraded both to windows 10 and everything is awesome. My biggest gripe is that it was an update and not a fresh install. Am I able to fresh install with my win 8 keys?

Your copies of Windows 8 should have been upgraded to Windows 10. When you go to do a fresh install and sign in with your Microsoft Account I believe it will recognize your copies as genuine. You don't actually need the product key.

Someone has info on doing a fresh install around here.

There are programs to help you find your new Windows 10 keys if you really want to know them. It's not a bad idea to keep them on file.
 
So I can't get the updates on windows 8.1 to finish. It fails everytime after a reboot is initated once the updates are installed. It says undoing all the changes. Anyone have this issue?
