Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

It's on by default. You have to do the custom setup during install and actively disable it if you don't want it.

This is why everyone should do the "custom set up" not express install--it's like 3 whole pages long, takes less than a minute and contains toggle boxes for like every feature journalists are running around proclaiming doom about

Then why not just unpin it from the start menu? It's not like it's taking up resources in the background or makes the OS somehow worse.

Because I don't want stuff I don't use on my PC? Why is that so hard to understand?

And it seems it is gone, the error was pertaining to the other Xbox entries which can't be removed in this fashion, but when using Get-AppxPackage | Select Name,PackageFullname the Xboxapp is no longer there.

Sounds like he's using the wrong OS.

Don't use Windows or OS X if you want something slim.

Linux From Scratch is lightweight.

Back to Chrome. I can't believe how bad Edge actually is. Slow, unresponsive if you have more than four tabs, no adblock (this is a deal-breaker with the modern internet).

I keep getting the 'something happened' message.

I've tried making sure my language was set to US English and Spanish be tried running the program in admin mode, which seem to be the 2 ways to fix it, but neither work!

Help!
Unhooking all unnecessary devices (mainly a secondary HDD) and running setup as administrator helped for me. It took me almost 20 times through trial and error and different solutions to finally work.

Yeah, I should be using Linux because I don't want apps on my PC that I'll never use. Are you guys for fucking real?
You don't know that. There might be some games you want to try due to cross platform integration.

Also, are you not interested in recording game clips?

Check your settings here

I don't have the Shutdown Settings available to me (such as the fast boot option). Why is my window different? EDIT: Does it have something to do with hibernation being turned off? I believe I had removed this option in Windows 7 because it took up a lot of SSD space. Maybe I need to run the command again and turn it back on. powercfg /hibernate on

I have an SSD and it takes forever to boot. It hangs at a black screen with a cursor for 20 seconds before logging in.

Exact same for me. Haven't found a solution yet.

I'm getting a Critical Error message.

"Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in."

So I sign out, and every time I go back in I get the same problem. Even doing a full shut down and reboot does not fix the problem. Help!

I am having a weird issue with my touchpad on 10.

See that scroll? Well, I wasn't scrolling but it's still there. Just stuck to the same place on the screen. Watching me, judging me. Being a general weirdo. Sometimes I have multiple scrolling wheels that get stuck to the screen and stay there unless I reboot the whole computer. The issue can come back 2 hours after I have been using my laptop or in a matter of minutes. I looked around the net to see if anyone else has been having similar issue with synaptics touchpad on windows 10 but didn't found any answers. I also have the latest build of the synaptics driver. Don't know what else to do.

Any advice?

Dude, who cares? Why are you getting so worked up over what he's got on his computer? It's not like he can't just download it from the Store if he changes his mind.

You should be able to uninstall any app as long as it doesn't break core functionality. I personally think the XBOX app is pretty awesome.

Thanks, that helped.

But now there is another process which is taking 20-30% of the CPU, lol.

"Runtime Broker" is getting the fans all noisy, using the CPU. Google shows that others are also having this issue. Any solution yet?

edit:
Fuck what I said. The "Microsoft Windows Search File Host" Process is back again :(((( CPU is constantly used by 70% by both said processes.

So annoying! What can I do now?

Just wait it out.

How does the game store work? I'm new to it and a little confused. Do all the games run on a desktop cause I don't have a W10 phone or tablet? I see stuff like Crossy Road and Hitman Go, stuff with a green Xbox banner and more stuff with a green Xbox Live banner. I basically signed up for a store account just to redeem Minecraft.

I don't think it will show you stuff that won't work on your device

It was an honest question, because I didn't understand why people would create headaches for themselves over such a little thing. You obviously had a problem removing the app from the system and I thought just unpinning it from start would be an easier solution than jumping through hoops to remove a 132 KB app from the system.

Sorry for being fucking real.

Is there any way to currently change the window borders from the boring grey they are now?

The new start menu and everything else looks great, but the borders or windows look so drab, really want something like aero glass.

Maybe it feel more clean to him.

Yes, someone needs to do something about it.

Also that ugly ass password screen.

Link at the bottom. The post also demonstrates the drawback of doing this. You're not going to get separate colors for focused vs unfocused windows, and you will likely end up with a weird gray box in the unfocused window.

Playing Win 10 for a few hours, enjoyed so far.

I'm currently have 4GB ram, would upgrading to 8GB improve performance greatly or not much?

Depends on what you do, but I've found 4GB surprisingly capable in my Surface Pro 3 for productivity/web browsing and not gaming. But for a desktop it's quite cheap to upgrade anyway, I have 16 in my desktop

The display of settings in Microsoft's own apps is a mess. Sometimes they pop out in a panel on the left (maps), sometimes in a panel on the right (mail), and other times the entire app (music).

Can you disable the lock screen? It's just a completely useless extra step for me on my non-touchscreen laptop. I'd prefer just going straight to the login screen. Plus, the app data that's supposed to be displayed on the lock screen to make it at least a bit useful doesn't even work. I have three apps selected (one being weather, so that should always have something to show), but I get nothing.

How do I enable hibernation? For the life me, going into the power save settings didn't enable it either. It was running fine on previous versions of windows, so what gives?
