Mac sales have been falling as well and I doubt that many people are making the Linux jump. Mind you, both of these are better unless you are running LTSC or Enterprise and that's a very small minority amongst consumers.

Despite what nerds on forums like this think, most people don't need a PC at all. Zoomers don't even know how to use them and do everything outside of work on their phone. PCs are GenX and Millennial devices.
I think you are probably right and I think it's directly related to consolidating things like Xbox into "Windows" too. It will probably all launch with corePC. It just seems like this would be a vital component to modularizing how windows is deployed for different applications or devices. This doesn't seem to come up much with future Xbox speculation but when you read about what corePC is meant to accomplish it seems kinda obvious where MS going.
That's what is holding me back. I've seen some people say 11 is fine, but I've seen even more people say they don't like it, or it negatively affected performance here and there, etc.
They may be doing the Vista thing and trying to get the next version out because the reputation of the current OS is absolutely toxic. Shocking, I know, but this isn't the first time MS has created an OS so shitty that the majority of people want nothing to do with it and skip a generation.

Microsoft is unfortunately stuck in the sense that the number of organizations around the world with critical software built to run on the current Windows architecture is too massive for a clean break in 1 version. There's still a lot they can do to clean up Windows as it exists today, but a clean break as you describe is not entirely feasible.
Exactly. There's a reason the new iPad OS essentially turns the iPad into a macbook air. Apple knows that outside of high end Macbook pros, they're about to start selling a lot fewer laptops.

That's very true. But Vista's reputation was far more toxic compared to 11. But hey, times change, maybe this is just toxic enough for them to do that. I could certainly see that.
My positive Windows memories revolve around 95 and XP more than anything else, lol.
