[Windows Central] No, Target and Walmart are not removing Xbox products from their stores [Update] Target Confirms

So many people wanting Xbox to fail that it's become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Sorry but who is wanting Xbox to fail? I love Xbox as a brand for their consoles. I was happy to see Gamepass fail as I don't like what it has done and could've potentially done to the industry, but to see their consoles fail? Not a chance in hell.

In the future, I see a lot of the 'Xbox' branding being phased out, just to move away from the brand association with Xbox, and letting MS focus on the MS Gaming label instead, and allowing them to expand the reach of controllers and headsets into certain ecosystems more easily.

So Microsoft are going to try and sell PlayStation and Switch controllers then?

Xbox is fine return to your cabins!

Remember that SneakersSO claimed that this expensive Xbox console would be running XboxOS exclusively, before changing his claims to WindowsOS after more details from Jez and co. came out.

Tell me how saying that they are remaining "committed to" Xbox consoles, accessories and games is saying the same thing as Wal Mart and Target will "continue selling" the same?
By labeling all boxes that play MS games as an Xbox, all that commitment really covers is that Xbox controllers and games will remain in stores, plus the Ally X and whatever other shit they got going on. And it's not like this would even be the first time they lied anyway.

Would 100% play my ps5 more if I could use a XSX controller and not that god awful dualsense. That's the only reason why I dislike playing my ps5.

Sometimes I'll play a 30fps game on Switch over ps5 because of the controller. It sucks but my hands are allergic to it, which is weird because I absolutely loved every Sony controller until now.

I mean, isn't a massive part of this AMD partnership putting Xbox APU's in the hands of OEM?

There will likely be Xbox-branded shit all over the place once that starts rolling out. It might only be for a brief period if the shit doesn't sell, but I can deffo see Xbox laptops, gaming rigs, and smart tv's and stuff at retail.

Why the hell are the jackin the prices up on a console thats clearly not selling they have so much inventory sittin there catching dust & itll prolly stay like that smh they need a rapide fire sale like sega & nintendo did with the dc & gc shit was goin for 50 bucks at 1 point

like no one has the internet and can't check this.

Walmart still has a SEries X listing and some stock locally even. Target doesn't even have a listing for Series X.

Console prices are going up because of tariffs, cost of the hardware in the product, and desire to be profitable instead of a loss leader. The big 3 care more about their revenue and profits than they do us, the gamers.

They never cared about nothing else than profit. And never will

Serious questions should be asked about certain posters, particularly on reddit. Are some of them being funded and if so who is backing them? The disinformation certainly seems orchestrated and not organic. It's time for MS to seek answers. Their own Xbox community are suffering tremendously right now.

Not while he's got the Masshole version of wojak meme as his avatar. He's too strong. He's been empowered by all the Xbox news I suppose so now's not the time.

Edit: See, he beat me to the post. The speed was incredible.

One thing after another, Microsoft is forced to respond time and time again to ongoing rumors that it's leaving the hardware space.

A new Xbox rumor started this weekend that's now blown out of proportion, as usual. Late into the evening on Saturday, Redditors flocked to the Xbox subreddit as someone claimed their local Target had begun removing the Xbox section from their store. Then, various blog sites who seem oddly invested in the concept of "Xbox dying" ran with headlines based on said anonymous reports. Likely buoyed by the fact that Costco recently has reduced its Xbox offering, compounding expectations of a wider retail rout.

From this post spawned a number of stories where other Redditors began sharing that they hadn't seen stock within their local Target or Walmart stores for months. Counter reports came in from various sources, like Destin Legarie, who shared the following.

"I just called my local Walmart to ask if they were discontinuing or pulling Xbox stock. They said, 'At least to my knowledge, I haven't heard anything about like clearing inventory or anything like that. Or about being discontinued." They also said still have them in stock."

We also spoke to a Target employee at our end, who also discredited claims of a wider Xbox removal.

Even the legendary Xbox alumni Larry "Major" Nelson chimed in, stating, "All I know is I went to a couple of Target and GameStop stores this week, and did find Xbox hardware and games for sale." I even did a little investigative work by going to my local Target during an unrelated errand, where I stopped by to check the shelves.

Sure enough, everything was there except for the consoles themselves. When I checked their website, I noticed that not a single Xbox Series X was available, but multiple Xbox Series S consoles were for purchase. But, Xbox stock does tend to fluctuate heavily, as Microsoft seems to manufacture them practically to order these days.

The Xbox Series X is regularly sold out, as Microsoft seems particularly fearful of creating "over supply" situations, for whatever reason. Some of that silicon is being used to power Xbox Cloud Gaming, however, which is another angle likely at pl ay here.

At least at Walmart, we found both consoles in stock. So wait, are they or aren't they getting rid of them? Well, Microsoft has given us a statement, noting that Walmart and Target, at large, are still "committed partners" for Xbox hardware.

"Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games."

Misinformation is generally been worse than ever thanks to AI, bots, and the like, but Microsoft has earned itself plenty of negativity over the last year. Where is all this misinformation coming from? And what will it take to turn the tide?

The battle ahead for Microsoft began with itself

Twice this year, Microsoft has announced price increases across the board for all Xbox-branded consoles, largely due to tariffs. All variations of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have seen a jump in price from their original prices of $499/$299 to $649/$399 respectively.

Then, to add insult to injury, the Game Pass Ultimate price took a 50% hike this past month, which will take effect at the start of November. Since then, Microsoft has been dealing with a tidal wave of claims that Microsoft is exiting the hardware business entirely, much like Sega did at the turn of the millennium. This is hot on the heels of Microsoft's summer reveal of a decade-long hardware partnership with AMD, for Xbox consoles.

Forcing another response, Microsoft chimed in, stating that it has no intentions to exit the Xbox console hardware business, and that seeking more information could refer to their latest partnership announcement with AMD.

Microsoft has always wrestled with its image, but it has reached new lows as of late. When you combine mass layoffs to fund investments into AI products only shareholders seem to want, aggressive price increases while posting record revenues and profits, and a sprint of unpopular business decisions — Xbox's public image has taken a battering.

Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass had a stellar year up to the price hikes, and its first party output has been better than ever, after years of struggling to finds its footing. The Xbox Series X|S consoles were also among the best pieces of hardware the firm has ever put out, again, before price hikes. All you need is a cursory glance over replies to its social posts to get a sense of how up against it Xbox is with its image.

As one of the world's most privileged companies, it deserves similarly powerful scrutiny. But, the sheer volume of misinformation and negativity out there risks turning others away from the ecosystem in its entirety — potentially harming customers, employees, and third-party developers alike who rely on Xbox's continued existence. Microsoft needs to do more here.

Mate. Us fuckers on GAF, Reddit, Twitter, and other social media bollocks are NOT responsible for Xbox's dire situation.

The majority of people that buy these products don't look at any of this shit. They don't know, or at the very least don't care. They see the problem as it is presented to them. Through GamePass prices, poor quality first party games, hardware costs, lack of availability in stores for physical, no marketing on TV for games.

That's what the general consumer sees.

Microsoft doesn't give two shits about you. Never have, and they never will.

The more damning thing is the Xmas catalogues as it shows where they're going. An announcement will probably come this year, they can't hide it forever.

Somebody needs to collect all this shitty news from and about Xbox for the past few weeks and put it in a montage.

Then put the Peacemaker S2 intro after it. It will be perfect.

Julian, it's a hungry world.
They're gonna eat you alive
son, yeah.
Oh, Julian,
when their fangs sink in.
I'll stitch you but then
I gotta throw you back in

Denying that something is happening is useful for fooling some of the console base to keep supporting the platform, so they can grab a bit more revenue until the very final hour and have less people jumping ship. They will lie through their teeth to make a buck on the last man standing. Nothing new really
SEGA wasn't monopolizing the industry as Microsoft, you know good old games rarely happens today for a reason.

To say that viral posts on reddit and social media don't have an influence on how the Xbox brand is perceived is incorrect. Bad actors have made merry with photos of Xbox stock disappearing from selected stores to further their malicious narratives about the brand. Sony fans like yourself have long been obsessed with so called Xbox influencers but now suddenly you're claiming social media is completely inconsequential? Curious.

"The majority of people" generally don't care about first party games unless they're from Nintendo. And first party MS games have been good to excellent quality this year.
You are correct that most casual gamers aren't terminally online. However, nor are they living in 2004 and rely on TV marketing to tell them what games are coming out. But many are on social media and sadly could be victims of the disinformation campaign currently being perpetuated against the Xbox brand.

It's very interesting that Jez Corden contributed to this article. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's doing a deeper dive into the disinformation and will present his findings to MS execs before publishing his article. This could be the biggest story in gaming in a decade or more.

PR Damage control and Jez go together like Peanut Butter & Jelly.

I just don't understand, even if you have a modicum of integrity, not even as a 'journalist' but just as a consumer, you'd have to just take anything this company tells you with a mountain of salt given just how often they have outright lied or misled you, and even knowingly used you to funnel good PR for them. You were a contracted PR asset that wasn't even on the payroll - you simply got access. And yet, he's still here, worshiping at the alter for a company that doesn't even see him as worth being anything more than a propaganda marketing arm for them, unpaid and exploited at every turn, only to be tossed out when the things he is staking his reputation on arguing against inevitably come to pass, as it has countless times before.

At least when it comes to ordinary consumers, Microsoft actually puts money into trying to appeal to them, to get them to buy their product. Jez is viewed even lower than that.

Wow. That was an insane bitchslap on Jizzy
