wait, it sounds like that isn't the case at all. people are going right from beta and RTM to final aren't they, or are you talking about forcing the update? there really isn't much difference at all between RTM and final.

I didn't have the beta, I forced the update from Nodo. Mango was working great except for texting, calling, etc. I could get emails and surf though. I'm restoring back to Nodo to see if things work normally again.

straight update, MS did a interim update to prevent a roll back, so I went through that the update to mango then a HTC update

I thought this too, but they were unlinked. Yet, I saw the hotmail link in my google options, I linked them and it worked, unlinked them, and I still get no email icon. I might have to start over from scratch.

Tried going into your windows live settings and unchecking "sync mail" and then re-checking it?

It should create a "Hotmail" app in your app list when you check it off again.

Yeah, I did that. Nothing. Something is super buggy. I think my failed install previously might have screwed me over. I did a factory reset but since then, weirdness has just creeped in. I'll try another.

Edit: Factory reset fixed it. Adding things back now. Have i mentioned Mango is FAST? Sheesh.

Okay, quick question as I'm forcing the update haha...

How many of the ringtones can I customize? By that I mean obviously phone calls themselves, but what about text message notifications?

Also, someone awhile back had a couple links for some software to cut down an mp3? Know what I want to do, but need to cut it down to 40 secs :P Anyone still have that?

I just used this site: http://www.mp3cut.net/

Efficient and simple.

Not sure I understand your first question, but you cant create your own SMS/Email ringtones as of yet.

Got an update even though I had Mango RTM, no need to do NoDo then..awesome!
I wish I was more patient. When the new Mango installation is done, I'll restore the leaked RTM image and try to update again. Not loosing all the settings, texts and apps would be great. And there goes at least another hour.

Thats what I was asking. Damn it. Honestly was wanting to customize my sms ringtone more than the actual phone one, as I get texted far more than I get called.

Unbelievable, the download for my wife's update is S.L.O.W. One hour and ist only 58% downloaded for the update. My wife wants her phone back, ugh.

What is this shit. I have a 1.3 Focus.

so, Mango + the impending launch of ios5 has made me struggle with my next phone purchase. I've got an old iphone right now, so upgrading to a new one would be painless. however, i am really intrigued by the direction MS is taking things - i've never been much of an app guy on my iphone, and having more stuff baked in to the OS is appealing to me.

most of my life is run through google apps (calendar, gmail, voice, etc) and an exchange server at work. they play well together on my iphone - does Mango integrate well with Google stuff?

what's the best handset for windows phone right now (or in the near future)? i seem to remember reading fairly recently that the most recent crop of windows phones left a little something to be desired...

your advice is greatly appreciated.

Hahahaha.

Zero theme song from Mega Man X1 is the perfect ringtone.

Under 1mb, under 40sec and just plain awesome.

Okay so contrary to popular belief...

I was on the Mango RTM... came home... plugged my phone in... got prompted for an update... and I got the update that takes me from RTM... to the real deal.... no roll back needed....

I just got done installing the 1st update which was the "beta clean up" update. Installing the real deal Samsung Focus Mango now.

I still have my backup, but it's not been needed.

Google stuff works great with wp7, but since you have exchange already why not make the jump to windows live? I used to use google everything but I switched over to live and the only time I even open gmail is to make a google voice calls on my pc or to search for really old emails to forward. live docs is better than google docs and skydrive is awesome.

I hate you. It feels like the roll back to the leaked RTM takes longer than installing NoDo and Mango. Damn. :lol

If anything this is "lol microsoft lol". Inane.

Nah, its lol carriers lol, since they're the ones who are apparently behind the whole staggering updates for people.

General rule of thumb is if something really fucking stupid is going on when it comes to smart phones, its usually the carriers behind it.

No, not really. You'll get your update, just not today. This is a phased roll-out, but those of us on PC's can "force" the update. Otherwise, we'd have to wait. Just like the lol mac lol folks.

Phone is restored and I'm back to Nodo and I'm still having issues sending texts, etc. Maybe something wrong with the Rogers service in Alberta? If thats the case I'm want to go back to Mango.

Exchange works perfectly fine. I use gmail as my main mail, and it all works fine. Mango now has unified inbox. Calendar works perfectly fine as well so no worries there.

Google Voice isn't exactly integrated so that might be your only hangup (there are 3rd party apps for this though). Ditto with Google Talk. G+ doesn't have an app yet either, but you can use the mobile web version just fine.

Bigger block for you would be any proprietary apps that you use on a regular basis on your iPhone like say from your bank or work or something. Beyond that as long as you aren't a huge iOS gaming whore there's no reason you can't make the jump. Music, Video, Youtube, Web Browsing, FB, Twitter, Gmail etc... aka all the general staples work okay if not extremely well right out of the box.

IMO the phones are fine. Android people bitch about older specs, but that's a non issue currently with the phones as the OS runs smooth if not even smoother with Mango. The only thing you'd be SOL on would be 4G. Your SOL on the new iPhone being 4G to though.

If you can wait though Nokia is having their big press event towards the end of October where they should show off their 1st phone. That would be the single phone to wait on. Hell I think my launch Focus is fine, and would recommend one in a heart beat especially if you can find one on say Amazon for like a penny.

I don't understand this. If the carriers have approved the update, why does it need to be "delivered" through them and not Microsoft's servers? I don't even have AT&T but I'm apparently hampered by them and their rollout process?

That's a UX pitfall.

Your update is delivered from Microsoft's servers.. with AT&T's approval.

Since your device is marked ATT (unless you're in canada on Rogers), they determine when your update will roll out.

As Van said, they are not rolling out all devices at once.. they're doing it in waves.

That way if anyone encounters a problem that wasn't caught in their testing, they don't give everyone the problem update. Carriers often roll out android updates the same way.. the difference here is that it is microsoft's server offering up the update.

Ridiculous.

Don't confuse two posters. I didn't blame the carriers. Unlike Apple, MS has done phased rollouts ever since an issue they had with the NoDo update back in February. Sucks for you, I know, but if you can find a way to bootcamp or if you had access to a PC with Zune, you could "force" the update like some of us have. Otherwise, you'll get the update within two weeks, but possibly much sooner than that.

Edit: UNLIKE iPhone, you can actually sync the same type of content from more than one computer. So, even if your MAIN computer is a Mac, you can force the update from any PC with Zune. Just make sure you log out and wipe your account from there when you're done.

All updated. Didn't have to force it or anything. Also didn't take very long, like 10 minutes. Which is weird.

Didn't fix a problem that I was hoping it would though. I have an app, ImageTool, that had an update a few weeks ago and about half way through the update it kept failing. Now I can't delete the app, I can't update the app and I can't even open the app. No idea how to get rid of it.

edit:

It appears I have a different firmware version to other Mozart owners who have updated to 7720. Not sure what I should be doing about that.

A similar thing happened to me. An app that I was downloading just froze. It couldn't be closed or downloaded again. I fixed it by resetting my phone to factory settings. The app was then removed.

Mango Get!

Fully up to date now, just wish I could access everything as I'm still unable to access my Live ID due to all the bullshit I've been dealing with. Set my custom ringtone too. Its a small thing, but I've been looking forward to it alot. Its the first 40 secs of this, which works surprisingly well as a ringtone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFKtYCcMWT4

Just got an update notice on my unlocked Telus LG Optimus 7!

Weeeee!!!! Might as well do this as I can't seem to join a game in the BF3 beta ffs.. :/

waiting for the new Samsung Focus S? a little bird told me it will be on att shelves October 2nd, this weekend. I didn't ask about the Titan or Focus Flash but they will more than likely be on the shelves as well.

Can you ask this bird if he knows when theyl be in canada?

So far I haven't been able to firce the update on my Tmo HD7.

Guess I'll keep trying for a while, but if this doesn't work in a few minutes I'll just wait for the rollout. :/

PC force update doesn't work for me. I'm in US with ATT.

Why can't it just be a dang file so that I could manually update.....

Keep trying, it took me a couple shots before I got it. When you go to the update link, let it load for 1-2 seconds tops (I counted 1-1000, 2-1000) and then turn the net off. Wifi switch on my laptop was easy to do. Then don't try and reconnect to the net for 20-30 secs.

Did you get your shit up to Mango then today? :D
I've decided to stay on the leaked RTM build. The app problem I had were fixed with the firmware update (no compass driver) and my phone is already unlocked and jailbroken. I like my grey theme color. :P

And on my next try it works! Time to see just how awesome Mango is! :D

Honestly this whole carrier branding for the firmware is a load of bullshit. Makes me miss the iOS firmware downloads. Quick and dirty. Wtf do they do anyway? Add their shitty apps and hijack the browsers search page and remove tethering? This should strictly be between the manufacturer and MS. Had this same BS with Android
