There WAS a lot of total crap on the iPhone app store, but there were also a handful of gems that were really fun to pick up now and again. This OS is so much prettier and flows so much better than the iPhone, so it's a really attractive platform, but it really is kind of lacking when it comes to apps.

I wish I knew how to program anything beyond input/outputting text and if/else statements, because I would start developing apps as of yesterday.

Developing apps for WP is easier than that. Get the dev tools, get Blend (both are free) and play with it for a bit. You'll be surprised how easy it can be.

You'll only need a dev account if you want to publish your apps in the marketplace.

Oh, wow. Yeah, I just watched the video on their site for Blend. Gonna be tough trying to learn it and work on something at night since I'm working a lot of overtime but I definitely wanna give it a run.
 
Ok. One thing is for sure. The focus s is much better suited for one handed use. It is noticeably lighter while holding for any period of time and my thumb is just a tiny bit too short to navigate the titan 100% comfortably as I can the focus s. Otherwise I like most everything else about titan compared to focus s (except the blacks). May try yo exchange the focus s for another unit to see if it fixes my speakerphone feedback and have as anantiquegamer suggested, the option to switch between them. :D

Update: My girl has declared my Focus as her's and won't be going back to her Nexus S when it comes back from repairs. WTF.
 
Funnily enough, my galaxy tab wont install anything any more, not even updates. I keep getting some bullshit message about there not being enough space, even though I have about a gig and a half free.

Stupid damn android.

Shame i have no time for all that maybe in 6 weeks or so when big school project is done.
Any free student license out there i got one for xna to run xna programs on my 360.

Yeah. I've messed around with the tools last week. Pretty cool what you can do with very little programming knowledge.

Because they promoted the Lumia 800, not 900. The 800 isn't available in the US, the 900 (and/or a version of the 800) will be available in Q1 2012 at AT&T and probably Verzion, if the rumors are true.

No kidding. I imagine we will see the Focus S and Lumia 900 on Rogers next year. I hope anyways. I will have only had my Focus for a year though and I would have to pay a lot to upgrade.
 
Best bet on a Titan screen protector? I'm sure there are some brands and types to avoid or go for. Never shopped for one before since this is my first* touchscreen phone.

Yeah, I assume they will add the Focus S and Lumia but I'm hoping for the Tital as well (although they haven't had any HTC WP devices yet).

My plan allows me to upgrade every 12 months so I'm tempted to try a new phone every year or so (and usually do).
 
I still think the Lumia 800 is a beautiful phone, but the biggest thing that I've fallen in love with moving from a 3gs to a Titan is the screen size. I don't think I ever want to go back to a sub 4" screen.

it was my biggest issue with the Lumia and one I could get over as I was upgrading from the HD7. But something inside me is still saying I need the Lumia :-S

Really? I feel the opposite, the screen takes up a lot more of the face of the phone than the Lumia 800 or either of Samsung's gen 2 phones. Focus S and Flash would be better off without the arbitrary Samsung logos on the front.

With the Lumia its all about the aesthetics. Nokia has taken out a shit-ton of stuff like the front-facing camera, NFC, etc; camera performance seems to be spotty and tethering isn't available either, but in spite of all this the Lumia still remains in contention when people are talking about current WP7 hardware. In a sea of lookalike handset designs, people will probably sit up and take notice when a handset stands out from all the boring black slabs we've become accustomed to.

Agreed, I have a Titan (I am loving it!), and whenever I pick up my iPod touch now, I am utterly shocked at how small the screen is.

It's a grandfathered coporate plan unfortunately, so it's not available anymore. If I upgraded to our newest corporate rate (which is actually more expensive), then the upgrade period goes up to 18 months.

I (usually) still have to pay for the phone upgrades, but it is similar to the subsidised rate you would get as a new subscriber so the prices are pretty good (I paid $50 for the Focus for example).

I really hope the Titan is on more than just Rogers. I recently left Rogers and they won't let me back in. Not like I want to go back. Always fucking with my plan.

I am not sure what headphone with function control work with the Titan. Samsung style nor iPhone earbuds work with it. My Titan also missing the factory headset (I heard it suck any way but would be nice to have for now). I wonder if the overprice beat headphone work with Titan since they have a model for Android.
I thought the headphone is standardized by the OS, ie. Microsoft.

Honestly you don't want the HTC own headset, they are horrendous but i threw my set into my Desire to test and i could start stop music and change tracks so my guess to the beats question is yes ;)

edit... just remember on wp7 the controls on the headphones change volume not skip music tracks

GAF ... it happened on Saturday. Darth Tigris and his accursed left hand dropped his beloved Trophy into ... the toilet. In a mad panic, I may have done things that ... did not improve the situation. But here I am, 6 days later, after trying just about everything within reason except baptizing it in 99% alcohol, and it won't even power up anymore.

No insurance. Warranty toast. Has anybody had any success taking these to a repair shop/necromancer and found themselves reunited with their loved one? I'm ... I'm pretty desperate here ...
 
Coming from focus. Is it true that the white theme in the HTC devices do not drain battery anymore than black? Can I really roll with a white screen and have normal use?

It will drain more than black but it won't kill your battery like the Focus did.

I am amazed at the Titan battery life.

Doesn't sound like you have a choice. Repair shop it is.

Also, if you think the titan has good battery life, wait till you get a load of the focus s. Probably the best battery life of any high end smartphone out right now.

edit: wait, I take that back, some of the other handsets are getting huge batteries, so my statement only applies to windows phones.
 
So does the white not drain anymore, or did they take the warning out? On my old Focus (Mango Beta) it had a warning for using the white theme. On my HD7 (Mango) it does not have the warning anymore.

The Amoled screens are battery killer. HTC use LCD.

I went into AT&T store today and the clerk assured me any headphone will work ... I don't think they knw what they are talking about unless it's iPhone. Play with Focus S a bit and the Flash. I am thinking Flash would make a nice small back up phone. It's small and perfect for night out when you don't need big screen or using a lot of app.

I bought a Titan yesterday and I'm starting to think there's a problem with it. I can't be sure since I only have three samples to go on, which isn't anywhere near enough, so I would like to hear more from other Titan owners. The problem begins in the Youtube link I qoute above, where they review the Titan. At around 6:00 they show stuttering in a movie and afterwards in a game. Not the typical framerate problems games suffer from, but more like short freezes.. That's sample one.

Sample two is from videos I recorded on my Titan. A short clip first:

Notice how Sonic 4 freezes from time to time especially in the latter part of the level. Every movie or game I've tried does that. Exactly as in the review...

Sample three is from a store where they let me test a video clip on another titan and once again it stutters.

Now I'm not familiar with Windows Phone, the Titan is my first. Is this a regular occurrence on the platform, an isolated problem with my three samples or a problem with the Titan itself?
