Windows Phone 7 |OT|

Well the unofficial explanation behind that is that Scandinavia got the N9 and Nokia wanted to make sure as many countries as possible got at least some kind of Nokia flagship phone for the holidays despite the limited availability. There's no countries atm with both N9 and 800 available.

Not that it's hard to get anyway.

I done goofed. Long story short, my WLID that I was using for my phone is gone. How long does it take for you to be able to recreate a WLID? I've been getting this error for a few hours now.

There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.

I know I can't change the primary WLID on the phone without a factory reset, and that account was also used for Messenger, so hopefully I can recreate it.

And no, I didn't really lose anything. Didn't have anything tied to the account, and my contacts are backed up.

Nice new tweet from MS Nerd, who has had a pretty good track record so far.

#tip: 1. Qualcomm MSM8960 first, 2. ST-Ericsson Novathor L9540 for Nokia & Samsung Exynos 4212 for Samsung; TI & NVIDIA support deferred.

Qualcomm 8690 = Snapdragon S4, Dual Core Krait (1.5-1.7 GHz) and Adreno 225, 28nm
ST-Ericsson L9540 = Dual Core ARMv9 @ 1.85 GHz, Power VR Series 5 GPU, 32nm
Samsung 4212 = Dual Core ARMv9 1.5 GHz, 32nm

All these are SoC that aren't even in use by Android phones yet, as far as I can tell. Though by he time Apollo hits they will probably be.

hmm the samsung support might be to do with that deal they struck a few months ago. The ericsson is no doubtedly to do with the Nokia deal.

Is there any rumored dual core support in tango? I've always felt we wouldn't get dual core windows phones until this time next year.

:/

After all this trumpeting we did over single core and discussing at lengths the benefits and shortcomings of single/dualcore, do we NEED to become dual-core exclusive?

Sounds like battery drains and heat issues will become more commonplace.

Also, I have faith that MS will not forget about battery life. Larger screens were battery life death on android last year, but my 4.3" Focus S gets better battery life than my wife's 3.5" Quantum, and the gigantic Titan gets decent battery life. One of the few benefits of being late to the latest features (dual core, lte) is that it'll be better optimized by the time you get there.

Just gotta remember that our current SoC are on a 65nm or 45nm process, newer ones will be on 32nm or 28nm. There might even be improvements in battery life as a result.

Low cost single core SoCs would be manufactured in the same process and consume even less battery, while still providing a good experience. But that's pretty much Nokia's job.

lol, someone showed me earlier that shaking the phone on the xbox live screen would make my avatar dance, then fall over, then finally get angry. :D

I love little hidden things like that.

Any word on Sprint?

I don't know how it works on Sprint, but isn't the Arrive super cheap on eBay by now? All the first gen phones on at&t are cheap. Why not pick up an arrive until Sprint announces their next phone?

He never liked the Arrive, because it's pretty bulky and he'd probably have to wait even longer for a new Sprint WP.

Nope.

$220 for a refurb.

You understimated the cost of a CDMA phone.

Sigh.

Wow, I can't believe the arrive costs $220 refurbished. You can get an LG Quantum in near-perfect condition for $100 less than that on Ebay, probably just $100 on Craigslist. My wife's phone was practically new, it even had the plastic on the back cover, and I paid $135.

Same with the Verizon Trophy. After my woeful 'incident', it's still a better deal for me to upgrade to a new one right now than buy one off of ebay or craigslist. Nuts yes, but the reality of the way things are right now ...

So, what's the easiest way to unlock the HD7?

Doesn't seem as easy as rooting or Jailbreaking, which are pretty painless.

Who knows, maybe it is. Seems there are a few different unlocks, though.

Would be awesome if it is true, but I'm not holding my breath.

Geektechblog.com is claiming to have had a hands-on with the Nokia 900 and have some very specific info to share.

They claim the device will have a massive 4.7 inch screen like the HTC Titan, but using AMOLED technology. The phone will apparently have ”a nicer camera to compliment the big screen”. The handset will apparently also retain the same appearance as the Lumia 800, but may have a gloss finish depending on feedback.

Geektechblog also notes the microSIM card will be removable using a pin like the iPhone rather than the current, rather complicated system, and that the microUSB slot will be uncovered.

They confirm the handset will run Tango, but claim NFC support will have to wait for Apollo.

No we never heard of Geektechblog, so we do not know how much credence to give this rumour. The 4.7 inch screen is of course brand new info. What would our readers think of such a monster from Nokia?

Edit: they already corrected to a 4.3" Screen, which we already knew.

Please could someone point me to a list containing all the phones that have the WiFi hotspot enabled. Is there any unbranded phone that has feature enabled?

My computer is not recognizing my Titan when I plug it in. Anyone had this issue with their phones? Tried messing with the drivers and reinstalling the Zune software, but it still isn't working.

Anyone know how I can switch from my Windows Live calendar (I don't use Windows Live, and I don't want emails about calendar items) to my exchange calendar? Exchange is linked up but when I add new appointments on the phone it defaults to Windows Live.

Also does Google Calendar work on WP7?

Switch off the live calendar, open the calendar, tap 3 dots (bottom right) / settings then switch off the un-required calendar.

or when you add an even just change the calendar it adds it too, the calendar colour + name will show tap it and select the calendar you want to add the event too

Also does Google Calendar work on WP7?
Yes but only the main account calendar

Thank you kindly. :)

Similar subject. Strange that it shows US holidays. I'd have thought that it would at least have an option there for picking your country.

sign in to live.com go to calendars, select holiday calendar, you can delete it from there, also on that page is a list of other countries holidays so you can add yours from there
