Windows Phone 7 |OT|

My big question about the No-Do update is not really when it comes out, but how long it will take until every WP7 owner has it...

yes thanks for the HSUPA tweak! agree hopefully AT&T can not disable it...

Also I hope they did block the Pre-Nodo so MS can force the full NoDO...
screw ATT and their bullshit slow updates. It's the one thing I liked about my iPhone. No AtT involvement in updates. My old BJ2 had to wait almost a year for the WM update

Yeah, my previous phone was the Nexus One, so you can imagine that the whole carrier blocking updates thing is especially annoying to me. At&t is the worst carrier in terms of Android updates, and it looks like it'll be the worst one for windows phone as well. Too bad they are the best carrier where I live in terms of coverage and data speed, or I would've bailed a long time ago.

I won't believe it until I hear anything official, but Thurrott is stating that the Mango update isn't coming this year.

Maybe Microsoft will have more information at MIX in a month.

they already showed MT running at CES in January so I'd assume it's coming sooner than later.

but besides not being able to run 3rd party music and such, to me the tombstoning and back button work great for me until the update.
The App load speed boost and resuming from tombstone in NODO will help as well.

On a side note I'm playing through the 1st story for IloMilo and have beaten all of chapter 1 and 2 and their bonus levels. I've beaten 7 of the levels in chapter 3, but one of the levels just have me plan stumped. I refuse to look this up either damn it!!!

you gentlemen deserve a medal for sticking it out with MS in this marketplace.

that is all.
The os is a joy to use and Zune shits on iTunes. It ain't that hard. If I stuck it out when the iPhone was in a similar position (few apps, no mt or c/p), I can do it again. Like the iPhone, I feel like the strengths outweigh the shortcomings. You really can't go wrong with any of the top phone os' nowadays unless you have very specific needs.

I had already bought into the Zune and Xbox ecosystem.. so my focus has been an excellent convergence of these services into one place.

Microsoft has a good product here.. with a few updates and some time it will reach feature parity with the other mobile OSes, but will still retain it's strengths in UI design and flow.

Consider that we've been waiting less time for update 1 than many AT&T android phones..

The captivate released with Android 2.1 back in June/July of 2010 and they just got 2.2 this past month..

yep :thumbsup

Yeah the bigger problem for me was like Van AT&T gives me the best coverage and speed in my area. Verizon is close, but I get better service on AT&T when I head to the family lake house. At the time of phone buying last year the only non apple phone to even consider was the captivate and it was suffering all of the galaxy s issues with no 2.2 update in site.

So taking the WP7 plunge was easy for me because the only other choice was the iPhone which I love in terms of apps, but I just can't stand itunes in Windows. Shit would be a slightly tougher choice to make now though as AT&T actually seems to give a shit about Android now to an extent.

Even still it's hard to use another platform these days because I just hate going back to the old paradigm UI wise.

I love my HTC HD7, we switched to T-Mobile, fuck you AT&T, and both got that for a penny on amazon wireless. We've had our phones for 3 weeks now and its probably one of my favorite purchases ever. Its an amazing UI. Just a fantastic phone and OS. The Zune integration is just amazing.

All I know is WP7 makes my wife's day to day use super easy and she came from an iPhone. No syncing, it happens automagically when she charges. The native Office support for her work is a huge plus and she loves the look and feel of the OS.

Sure there are shortcomings; every platform has some. It all depends on the user's priorities.

No Problem.

Have any ideas or themes I should base bundle three on?

Was thinking about doing a Retro game theme.

I like the more real life ones, such as the famicom carts one. Please do a few along those lines please!

For the last hour or two I'm was trying to find out what services Microsoft offers on their Windows Live site... I'm somewhat underwhelmed.

Photos:
It's nice that your phone can automatically upload the photos as soon as you take them, but the pictures will be compressed to no end so you can't actually use any of them.

Office:
The office functionality of WP7 sounds and is really good, but it just doesn't work as well as it should. I have downloaded all the Windows Live programs (including Mesh) and thought I could just synch the “My Documents” folder to then edit every Word and Excel file on my phone. However, it seems like this is not possible. You can synch everything to your SkyDrive and it will show up online, but there's no way to access these files. Why don't they just show up on your mobile phone? There's Microsoft's SharePoint feature (which I assume is exactly what I'm looking for), but I don't see why I should pay for that.

Am I doing something completely wrong or is this service just that shitty? :)

Yeah shitty indeed. I not so long ago did a post on my blog rambling on about the same thing, also since the KIN studio has joined the WP7 team so they should steal the kin studio web interface/cloud storage idea.

Yes, believe it or not the KIN had one thing going for it. :D

Wow, what an exaggerated point. They are not full res, but that statement above is silly.

Also, I think the SkyDrive integration was announced for mango. I like the functionality on the live.com site with the phone, but apparently the old winmo site was better. *Shrug*

It is silly? They're not only not full res, but also horribly compressed. Here's an example.

If you upload the pictures manually doesn't it do less compression and higher resolution? (I thought that is how it worked) You really don't want an automated thing uploading even a 1 megapixel image. For those who take lots of photos they could easily go through their whole data plan in a few days if it was backing up the full image.

Its also been said already but full skydrive support for office is coming in the mango update....

Oh please, you can't use that first image? REALLY? You can always upload full res to Flickr, but to say that the first image is unusable is silly as fuck.

Edit: also, if you insist that there is absolutely no way you could use any of the images for any purpose whatsoever, turn off the feature and save yourself some bandwidth.

The picture I uploaded to show the difference was uploaded manually. I don't think there's a difference.

I get it. You don't care about the quality of your photos, that's okay. For everyone who cares about this stuff, SkyDrive is just not an alternative (to anything) for uploading photos.

No update for me. AT&T is likely still blocking the update, or the rumor was false. Or both.

*SIGH* I was trying to not fall into the hater camp again, but I guess I have to. Throw me down with VanMardigan that AT&T is straight cockblocking me.

At this point it's still basically pointless to own a phone on AT&T not named the iPhone if you want to keep up with the times.

Has anyone gotten the preupdate today since it supposedly was relaunched for Samsung Phones?
I got it, but it still doesn't work for me. I get further than I did before but still won't finish the update (it times out and gives an error message).

I saw a post on the wp blog that they arrived at a different issue that it just won't install for a few people world wide.

Windows Team Blog

UPDATE—Fri. Mar. 4

This week we began sending the February update to more customers around the world, adding 10 additional carriers to the distribution list. Since then we’ve been listening and watching the rollout closely. Despite the increased scale of the distribution, we continue to improve on the 90% percent success rate I’ve mentioned.

We also received reports this week that a small number of customers—about 100 total worldwide—are encountering a new issue when trying to install the February update. The problem only appears to prevent the update from installing.

We’ve spent the last 24 hours aggressively investigating the issue, and have identified a work around for error code 800705b4. You can find it here. We appreciate the patience of customers affected by the error and will continue to carefully monitor the update rollout and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
