I saw a post on the wp blog that they arrived at a different issue that it just won't install for a few people world wide.

Yeah, I saw that earlier but I still haven't got it to update yet. I have unstalled apps/games but it still times out. If this still happens when the NoDo update comes I guess I will try a factory reset and then update... but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

There's a debranded Nodo ROM for those who have the HTC Mozart on XDA.
I wish someone would release one for the Focus. We need to get rid of AT&T bullshit.

Getting tired of waiting for the update... and getting annoyed with Microsoft for allowing carriers to block updates.

I hope they re-think their position after this debacle..

On the contrary, after this debacle it seems like it would make sense for carriers to block updates...certainly they won't be convinced otherwise.

You sir deserves a salute , my download speeds have tripled and things are so snappy now! Thank you ! Thank you!

Same here, thx so much Robobandit!

But: still no update on my ePlus Omnia7.

Oh I don't disagree as I said in a previous post since AT&T has to deal with bricked phone returns.

This is all on MS and the phone manufacturers. Definitely makes me not want to ever get a Samsung phone since they seem to have problems no matter the model or the platform despite my like of my phone, and makes me wonder if MS can ever get their shit 100% together.

So, the factory updates for the HTC 7 Mozart, Trophy and HD7 are online and uploaded on the XDA-Developers forum.

Not long after the HTC Mozart NoDo factory ROM was leaked on XDA, ROMs for its sister devices, Trophy and HD7, have arrived as well. They sport the same version number as the Mozart, 7355-89, and are unbranded with no carrier customizations. The European ROMs support English, German, Spanish, French and Italian. In case you have been living in a cave up until recently, the NoDo update most notably includes copy/paste functionality and improved performance.

One quick note on installation: If you are a T-Mobile or o2 HD7 user, you must flash it using the "Gold Card" method in order to bypass the device ID check.

Who needs Microsoft or carriers for OS updates, right? Man, I love Android ... Wait, what?

If the updates are ready to be distributed, why don't we have them yet?
If a game leaks a week before its release, why can't you just buy it before the official release date?

Okay, that was bad.

HTC stuff always leaks early on the XDA board and it's probably just not ready to be distributed. I obviously can't tell you why, but so far we didn't see the NoDo update for other phones than HTC ones (except for the Venue Pro in India but that doesn't count). So maybe the others aren't ready yet.

However, they don't have much time left. Remember?

So lets meet here on Saturday to shit on Microsoft and their broken promises and crappy update policies.

No update for my HTC yet.

I was talking about the leaked NoDo update, not the one that's going to be officially distributed. Or do you have a Surround?
HTC Mozart still on 7.0 (7004).

Or maybe that's normal and I'm just confused.

edit: I see. Leaked as in available for download, not leaked straight to my phone automatically. That makes more sense :lol face.

Here's the thread at XDA including the instructions for flashing the NoDo ROM to your Mozart.

edit: Please don't blame me if your phone explodes after the update of does other weird stuff. I don't need another law suit.

Shiiiiitttt... I'll go on record for the 3rd straight week that I plan on hitting the weekend without the pre NoDo update for my Focus let alone NoDo. I feel much freeier now though that I'm sort of over it. I'm just like eh whatever and go on enjoying using my phone. That being said this experience from MS and Samsung is permanently ingrained in my mind, and will weigh heavily during my next phone buying experience.

Thurrot on his "Mango not 'til 2012" report:
I noted in a recent news story that sources have told me that the first major Windows Phone update, codenamed Mango and due late in 2011, may slip to an early 2012 delivery for customers. This is true in that I've been told this is a possibility by two different Microsoft employees. But now a separate source close to the company tells me otherwise. Could the Windows Phone team actually meet a schedule? Naaah.

And Neowin is reporting that the NoDo update was delayed by Microsoft for few days, but it's still coming out this week. The known pre-update problems with the Samsung phones seem to be responsible for this small(?) delay.

You don't automatically turn into a negative nancy by pointing out obvious mistakes Microsoft has made. We all love our Windows Phones (that's why we chose to buy one), but there's just nothing good to say about anything regarding the way Microsoft handles the platform since launch. Not one single thing.

There was this little moment, when Microsoft updated the Bing app and ... wait, that was Android and iOS ... Nevermind.

"New prediction: NoDo to be released first half of this year."

I don't see any scenario under which I get the nodo or pre-update this week. It ain't happening. At this point, I don't even know what to expect: is it two separate updates my phone needs? Will they wrap both into one update for my phone? Did my carrier already sign off on my update? This has been a terrible experience overall. I can't think of a way they could've botched this any worse.

I'd love for MS to prove me wrong and deliver a working update on my phone within the next two days that provides me with better market search, faster app loading, and cut/paste. I'm not holding my breath.

Manufacturers and carriers are ready, MS is holding the update back.

I had to flash gingerbread on my nexus one, so Apple is pretty much the best in terms of updates.

In terms of positive stuff MS has done on the platform since launch, you have to give them credit for the incredible job they've done on apps and games in such a short time. I'm not even sure the iPhone app store grew this quickly after its launch.

I want to hate on MS even more, but I'm so apathetic that I can't muster up anything at this point. I can't even sell my Unused HD 7 on craigslist. Then again this update doesn't do (or No can Do) proper IM app access.

Paul Thurrott has something to say about the update (and the pre-update). Just read the whole article, it's worth it! :)

It's a good read and he's right. I still can't believe Microsoft is going with the "two updates per year" schedule on a phone OS. It might work on the Xbox (and even there are some minor updates once in a while), but phones are by far more critical. If there are any annoying bugs, you have to fix them ASAP, instead of waiting for your big update. I'll fucking rage and kill a puppy, if the alarm bug isn't fixed in NoDo. Zune crashed twice today and I don't know if it's the alarm bug, the Zune crash or another annoying bug, but when I woke up this morning, my clock went exactly 12 hours back, the music wasn't playing anymore and sound stopped working. It's needles to say that I was late at work. WTF?

But maybe it's the universe telling me to fuck off. Even MetroTwit is acting weird lately.

Its funny you mention that because this morning, my alarm went off, I THOUGHT I hit snooze, but it never did ring again and my wife had to wake me up. I then usually listen to music on my phone while I shower, but Zune crashed and I had to reboot the phone to get it running again.

huh.

I've had the Focus for no more than a week and Zune crashed twice already. Not a good sign. Perhaps I should have gone with the iPhone after all.

I've never had Zune crash on me..

The marketplace has crashed.. but never Zune..

I don't think this is entirely fair. 4.1 was released in early September, before WP7 came out. There was no 4.2 public release--it eventually turned into 4.2.1 which was released in late November. From then until now, there's only been 4.2.5 and 4.2.6 for the Verizon iPhone (a small minority).

Now, if iOS 4.3 comes out before this NoDo update, then you have something to whine about.

I wish there was a sub category for Airplane mode that was called, "At nerd convention in San Francisco" which switched you to Edge mode and turned off wifi. At GDC the batteries on my iPhone and Focus were literally dwindling in front of my eyes.

VanMardigan said:
The next time your market crashes, check your Zune, it'll be crashed as well.

Yes, that I know. However, I always reboot as soon as the marketplace crashes.. and I've never had zune crash on it's own.

The person who said that zune crashed was not specific about what they were doing at the time.

Zune crashes are definitely rarer than market crashes, but they've occurred to me, the latest being this morning. I just opened up the app, got a loading screen, and then back to the start screen.

Yeah, I opened Zune, it said loading for about 3 sec then went back to the start screen. I wasn't doing anything unusual.

Is there a reason why Microsoft can't forget about OTA updates for now and just offer updates directly through the desktop manager for WP7?

Licensing agreements and all the bullshit that comes with carrier subsidies.

Off the top of my head the only people that have done updates without carrier blessings are Nokia and Google.

Can someone explain the different updates and what they entail? Nodo and Mango

Still waiting for Microsoft to get its shit together before I think about jumping in.

Edit: also heh at this comment http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/when-will-we-hear-more-about-windows-phones-future:

Little to no excitement remains, at this point, but has been supplanted by the latter, overwhelming amount of frustration. WP7 users can be seen as a starving nation, waiting for food rations. At first, they're hopeful, but as time goes on and some begin to whither and die, hope fades. By the time the food arrives, the only ones left to eat are left without any sense of joy as their family and friends - all their loved ones - have already died of starvation and those who remain no longer have the desire to eat.

Official: NoDo coming out in the second half of March

Not surprised though... I hope these are just growing pains, lol.

Not surprised. However, if they can't even push out a simple copy/paste + minimal performance update, I highly doubt we'll see Mango until next year.

I like my HD7, but I never expected having to deal with so many bugs (of which I don't foresee any upcoming fixes) on a daily basis is unacceptable. After my contract runs out, I'll probably move over to Verizon and get the iPhone. This is ridiculous.
