Is it possible to set up custom text and notification sounds? I figured out how to make custom ringtones but nothing else.

Also, is it possible to do group text/chats? I have a group pinned and when I send a text to the whole group I get each response in a seperate text window. I'd much rather have it come back as a group chat in a single window where I can see all responses at the same time.

I could be wrong but i think it depends on the device at the other end. I know when I used to send group texts to friends with my iPhone only other iPhones preserved the group.

no custom sounds as yet i think, unless the hackers have managed it yet?

as to group messages go to settings / applications / messaging and switch group text on, warning this turns group texts to mms instead of sms
 
So I've recently (two weeks) jumped onto the Windows Phone bandwagon. I got the Lumia 800, everything was going great. Showed it off to a few friends, they loved it. Today on the way to work. I switch on the WiFi for my train ride, put it in my pocket, get on the train, take it out my pocket. The damn thing is dead. I thought WTF!!! Battery? Nope, just dead!!!
Now I'm thinking do I exchange this handset for the same one or bail out?

Any other good WP out there?
 
Nokia’s new flagship Windows Phone will hit U.S. in early 2012

the new Nokia smartphone will be the Lumia 900, a Windows Phone with the same basic identity as the Lumia 800 but with a bigger display and other enhancements. The handset will reportedly feature a 1.4GHz processor, a 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel camera, and it will ship with Windows Phone “Tango.”

After the initial reports from users this hack seems to be working on 1st generation HTC's only. 7 Pro, Surround, HD7, Mozart, Trophy owners have reported this working. But 2nd generation HTC's, like Titan and Radar, do not seem to work. I am now analyzing these ROM's. I'm already seeing a lot of changes in the drivers. I have found exploits in the post-mango drivers of 1st generation devices, so I hope to be able to find an exploit for the 2nd generation drivers soon!

never had issues with the HTC's but it depends on what you are looking for in the handset, as far as the OS goes all the handsets are good, spec wise the focus s / titan are equivalents with extra's like FFC

the nokia just had it's own nokia apps and that pretty design to differentiate from the other handsets imo
 
I was thinking of getting a Windows Phone but I don't know which one to choose. Should I go with the Titan or the Focus S? Any one use both and have a preference?

And that's what stood out for me. Nokia Drive, and the Radio Mix is pretty impressive. I'm coming from the HTC Desire, which I loved and never had any issues with, but the 4.7" screen on their latest handsets seems a little too big for the pockets.

why not just contact your carrier /nokia and get it replaced?

My Titan is sitting at home waiting for me to get home from work. I'm going from a blackberry curve a few years ago, to an iPhone 3gs, and now to winphone. I planned on posting some impressions then so maybe it will help.

If you're on AT&T, it's between the Focus Flash and Titan (IMO). Flash is a great value for $50. It matches the CPU/RAM of the Focus S, but has a half inch smaller screen (bad because it's smaller, good because of pixel density since all these phones are the same resolution), half the storage, and a worse camera. Not a huge difference considering the $150 price difference. If the screen size/camera/storage are really important to you that could be a difference maker though.

And the Titan just seems to have more to offer for $200 than the Focus S. Bigger screen, very slightly faster, and possibly a better camera (not sure on this one).

Focus S allegedly has the best battery life of the bunch, and the SAMOLED+ screen looks fantastic, though some people don't seem to like it as much as the Titan screen.

Its not shopped. It was from a Nokia video that was taken off youtube shortly after and the phone was replaced with a Lumia 800.

It actually looked pretty nice, when the phone was locked the buttons were completely invisible but lit up when it was unlocked. I know some of the other phones have backlit buttons, but this seemed much different.

I do like the look of the 800 a lot, but if the 900 does look like that I need to see more of it to judge it properly. Wonder if it will have a FFC? Also for people who actually have and use a FFC on WP or other devices how does it impact battery life if you in a video chat?
 
My Titan is out for delivery, so excited! Been waiting for a reason to get Win7 phone since launch, the Titan+free at best buy was it. Little nervous though, Android has been very good to me.

I currently have the 3GS and as much as I like the IPhone I want to try something new. I will check for your impressions tonight.

My last few phones (during all of these I've had various top of the line blackberries since I'm our Blackberry admin)
2007: iPhone
2008: iPhone3G
2010: iPhone4 (after 4yrs of iOS i started to get tired)
2011: iPhone4 + LG Quantum on Craigslist (Really wanted a Focus got this around June and started switching between the LG and iPhone4)
2011: iPhone4+Samsung Focus (Got the Focus in July sold the Quantum)
2011: Samsung Focus (Sold the iPhone in August for a ridiculous amount on Ebay in preparation for the new hotness)
2011: HTC Titan (best phone I've ever purchased)

I also have a ton of Android knowledge due to pushing my girlfriend to get a Nexus S.

Now I must say i have gripes with WP7 but they've made tremendous moves in 1yr.

It was IM through Windows Live, and the contracts appear to be linked correctly. I've had people message me through FB chat on the phone and that appeared correctly in the same conversation thread.
 
Just got my ZuneHD refurb (needed another music player to take advantage of my Zune Pass) and it is so dumb that I can get artist bio's on it, but not on my phone. I'm in Canada and I know it is region problem for the phone, but it still seems like something that should be fixed.
 
Well, the HD7 crapped out on me and they sent me the Radar as a warranty replacement. I'm liking it better so far and it seems to get a lot of positive comments from people who previously dismissed Windows Phone 7+.

dangit, titan did not show today still says it's in Ft Worth processing USPS priority mail.

Priorit mail is usually fast as hell. Ooh well holiday traffic hopefully tomorrow.

On another note having real issues with people hearing me on my Focus S.

I'm having a hard time getting any impressions of the Live Messenger integration in WP (probably because most of the reviewers and users are American). Could you say a bit about your experience?

What do you want to know? you can turn it on and off, set your status and message people while keeping it all in the messaging hub, can make a vid if you are really interested
