How is it overblown? WP7 has roughly 40k in apps submitted (you probably have access to about 30k when you take into account what's been pulled and what's available in your area. Contrast that to iOS and Android who have 500k + and we aren't even in the same ball park.

Hard to say all of the major apps are on WP7 when WP7 has less than 10% of the total apps that the other two major marketplaces do unless we only consider like 2-3 % of the apps on the other app stores "major".

I think 2% is pretty generous actually.

Honestly there's nothing app wise I miss coming from iOS. And the fact email and exchange support is better arguably makes it a more useful phone overall.

Now game wise...that's a different story. I really miss the breadth of games that's available on iOS, the strategy section on WP7 is literally empty.

FYI 3 new Xbox Live WP7 games out today.. one of which is free and fairly fun.

The free game is called Breeze. If you are a fan of Flower on the PS3 you should download this free Live game..

Breeze is the only good one of the bunch imo....also helps that its the free one too.

It reminds me of the xbox indie game blow as well (that is a great indie game too if you never played it).... a very relaxing game with the music.

$49.99 for the Lumia 710 at T-Mobile isn't too bad, I guess.
But ehhh, who cares about the 710.

Big marketing push seems to be the key thing to come out of that announcement.

T-Mobile will not be carrying the 800, for a while at least. but it will be the exclusive Lumia 710 carrier in the U.S. for an extended period after the launch. The company also expects to benefit from a huge promotional push by Microsoft and Nokia, which will be advertising heavily to reintroduce its brand in the U.S. It's been carrying Windows Phones all along but will now broaden the lineup and providing more training for store crews to sell them.

"We'll be working to leverage their overall advertising pressure and commitment to the marketplace," said Cole Brodman, T-Mobile's chief marketing officer.

T-Mobile is hoping the Lumia 710 and the clean, simple Windows interface will appeal to Americans who haven't yet begun using a smartphone. The company believes there are nearly 150 million people in this category.

The Lumia 710 "is a great choice for first-time adopters, or smartphone intenders -- those who really want the benefits of using smartphone but maybe are confused about the choices," Brodman said.

Not sure how accurate this is but gives us some possible insight into the current wp7 structure within ms.

Shame we probably won't find out how true that stuff actually is.

I don't put much stock into articles that include comments like this:
Finally, our source believes that Nokia CEO Stephen Elop's aggressive statement that the Lumia 800 was "the first real Windows Phone" at Nokia World in October could've been perceived as a knock by hardware partners who were already weak on Windows Phone support, though it's believed that Lees wasn't directly involved with vetting or clearing that keynote.

Basically all the "source" is doing is giving their opinion on why things happened, a real source would be giving us Ballmer's or other Exec's opinions.

Edit- worded that a bit weird, not suggesting they don't have a source, just suggesting that the source doesn't actually know anything beyond the standard water cooler rumor mill that every company has.(never believe anything a flight attendant tells you about what's really happening on the business side of an airline.(new routes, planes or promotions)

Yeah, that was a pretty pointless article. You have a source that considers it a demotion, but doesn't really know everything that his new job entails. I would think knowledge of new responsibilities is a key factor in judging whether a person is getting "benched" or not.

Microsoft needs to dump the Windows branding.

Everyone still refers to this as windows mobile or thinks its all about business since the name "Windows" is in it. The OS from the start should've been called Metro.

So, apparently Kinectimals is written in Unity3D and that same codebase is deployed to both iOS and WP7. It is encouraging that it is possible to use Unity3D on WP7, its too bad that developers don't have access to it yet. Apollo can't come soon enough (and it better damn well give native code access!).

I told you, Bret. I fucking told you so. :lol

FFC, Pentaband, NFC, Meego, Ram,

nfc is not supported yet from wp7
the wp7 os supports up to 512mb so its not a problem of lumia that

meego? really? first its a different os so i cant see how that goes in the argument that lumia is gimped

have you actually used meego? Its good but it has problems (not talking about apps) and at the end of the day wp7 is a better os

He is just trolling, per usual. All I can said is if we get more trolling here then it's good indication that the WP7 OS is going places.

You can tell the more good news Microsoft have the more trolling you get on Gaf. It's proportional relationship.

No SD slot on any of the new hands on. Looks like this was totally false.
oh shit. my bad. i could've sworn the 710 had an SD slot. guess i was wrong/

You're in for a surprise when they EOL WP mid 2012.

Marketshare numbers as of June 2011:

Microsoft owns 2/3 of the IM market with MSN and Skype.

Wow. I had no idea Windows Live Messenger was still so popular. No one I know uses it anymore.

OMG i had no idea that you can swipe notifications away when they come in. Just swipe it to the left or right. Damn i love finding things out like this months later.

What's the difference between email and outlook, besides a different icon?

Also, dream and Copernicus promised me that they wouldn't troll windows phone after webOS died, but only dream is sticking to it. You would think with so much stuff happening on android, cp would have plenty to stay entertained without wandering over here.

Think my data problem was related to the HTC Hub. Looks like it's not too friendly with small data plans, especially if you don't remove the default cities and stocks.

Doubt anyone else is rolling with 200MB plans so it's probably not a problem :lol

WiFi at work filters everything, and there isn't a lot of free wifi where I live, I couldn't survive with 200mb. I'm already at like 2gb with more than half the pay cycle to go.

The bulk of my data, at least the data I intentionally use, is just People hub updates and GAF via secondapps without images. Maybe occasional other browsing for news or links from GAF. For any updates or downloading I just use my home wifi. I think I averaged 70MB a month on my old phone.

And is it possible for an app to override wifi and use your data? Because it looks like whatever is/was using my data was doing it even while I'm at home on wifi.

I had the 200mb plan but I upgrade it to 2gb (it was only $4.00 more with the discount from my new job) so I can't tell you if that was the reason but I wouldn't be surprise with HTC. I did turned off the hub update also.

That said, HTC sure have more useful app than Samsung. Their YouTubes app is great (though MetroTube is better), they have nice flashlight app along with note app good for quick pinning reminder and awesome camera app.

I know you said you don't call a lot on titan but are you having the muffled call quality (people hearing you)that a lot of us are?

I have gone back to focus S so my clients can hear me clearly. shame because I love the titan

I haven't had a single complaint from anyone I have called. It has been mostly AT&T(me) to Verizon though, so maybe that might have something to do with it. Was yours from the initial shipment of the device? Mine was from a subsequent shipment from Amazon. Maybe the first batch had issues as well?

yes AT&T penny sale

Tempted to try another one but one guy has already done it and after intial joy said it was more of the same..muffled underwater tones.

Note./.. you do not hear it when using earpiece or BT or Tango...just phone calls form handset.

even this most recent review comments on it

nearly everyone I spoke to (usually clients) complain at one point or another that they missed something or repeat it. the current theory seems to be overly aggressive noise cancellation. One guy even drilled his speaker hole out.

Does anyone pair their Titan with a bluetooth headset or bluetooth sync their car?

I'm about to return my Titan as defective. Because its happening in all my cars.

1/2 of the time when I'm getting out of the car when I deactivate bluetooth or hit the button to switch back to the phone I can still hear the person but the mic doesn't work. Anyone else have this issue?
