Another problem is that as more and more people get smartphones, the opportunity will change from "Getting someone to buy their first smartphone from your company" to "Getting someone to actively switch to your company, leaving behind their content". That's a harder sell for an underdog, because you don't just need to attract a customer who is looking, you need to attract a customer who isn't looking.

I liked using WP7 (I bought an LG Quantum for a song to play around with), but the OS didn't blow me away. There were a lot of growing pains, some of which have been resolved by Mango, some of which hadn't. There wasn't anything that really wowed me--some of the UI stuff was nice, some of the UI stuff less so. The application support improved from dud to adequate, but there are still no unique applications. Even with a killer piece of hardware, I don't think there's a whole lot of reason to pick WP7 over iOS or Android, and certainly not to switch from one to another. iOS is a good operating system. ICS is a good operating system [Note: My only experience with ICS is on a Galaxy Nexus, so shittier phones might make for a shittier experience]. There aren't a whole lot of people out there using either and saying "Oh my god, I desperately need something different". Maybe you disagree. I think history will generally vindicate me.

I do think MS will increase in marketshare as the Nokia stuff rolls out, particularly in Europe, but I think that'll be more about manufacturer brand inertia than the OS selling. I don't think there's going to be a breakout success, though.

MS isn't fucked like RIM is fucked--RIM is simply a terrible company with terrible products. So if there's room for a three horse race, I think MS could carve themselves a minority (10-15% say) third horse share, but if it's only a two horse race, one of them won't be Microsoft.

Now the debate with selling my Titan for this when it comes out begins. I'd rather not have the LTE honestly because I don't want to lose my unlimited plan.
 
wow that was dull.

I wonder if the 900 had to be bigger to get a battery that could cope with LTE and the FFC hardware in there and the increased screensize is just the side effect, either way I'm not going to be envious so that's good.

Disappointed that they didn't have anything to say on Tango or Apollo, but I guess that's why MS is pulling out of CES, they have nothing to say in January. Also kind of adds some weight to the idea that Tango might not be adding much that high end users care about, which is a shame.

When's the next event?

Those are all the same iOS platform. Android is the same way. You can transfer compatible apps to your Android phone, Android tablet, or Android-enabled TV (LOL). He was talking about moving from one platform to another, i.e. iOS to WP7 for example.

I thought you are done trolling. Are we still bitter that Nokia pick Windows Phone instead of using the OS cobble together by Google from other people codes and ideas.

Isnt 4G a different technology or has a different standard or something? I think there is a difference, but people call it 4g anyway. (or am i confusing something)

So what does it have to do with losing your unlimited plan? Switching carriers?

He probably would probably get the phone on contract and the LTE contract will probably be more expensive than his unlimited plan he has right now

But is AT&T really doing that? Verizon isn't charging more and I don't think AT&T wants to go that route since, besides the grandfathered peeps (which hopefully carry over like Verizon does), data is already limited.
 
Honestly if I was looking I'd just get the 800 since the hardware is all capped anyways.

No need to upgrade though as all of the launch phones are pretty much 95% comparable to all the current phones outside of screen size (which is plus and minus depending on personal preference) and cameras. I just hope MS has a super phone in the pipeline for say Oct of this year post Apollo. Not that my experience it's already snappy.

Since I don't really game on the platform because of the lack of a ton of great games at good prices I'm finding it hard to wonder why I'd even need to upgrade anytime this year as well. Apollo could change all of that of course though.

You can blame the confusion on At&t and t-mo for their lack of real 4G and start promoting their 3G+ as 4G. So now we essentially have two type of 4G, 4G (that is actually 3G+) and 4G LTE.

I am not sure how At&t do their LTE, I know when I upgrade to 4G fake on my Titan it was the same plan but sometimes they do try to force you out of your old unlimited plan when you sign up for something new.

I think MS through live really needs to connect their 3 platforms . Live /xbox is growing and windows on the pc is still a beast . If ms can get it right and have people locked into that eco system and include windows phone in that , it will be a step foward. I think 2013 we will see windows 8 on phones and thats when ms will really start to climb out of the hole they are in

Here in the states isn't it

Verizon LTE= 4G
Sprint WiMax = 4g
Sprint LTE = 4g (starting to roll out this year)
AT&T HSPA + = 4G
TMobile HSPA + =4G

Verizon 4g = 100mb/s max
sprint wimax - 20mb/s max
sprint lte = 100mb/s max
AT&T + Tmobile HSPA + = 5-10MB/s max ?

???

if you use your existing tmobile sim:
youll either need to get a microsim cutter (or google instructions and do it very carefully via exacto knife) or purchase a new microsim card (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PQHMEI/?tag=neogaf0e-20) and call tmobile to get it activated/transferred from your old fat sim.

if you're going over to att, i think they'll give you a microsim when you sign up?

as for me, i want a magenta one BAD. I was thinking of importing, but Elop/Ballmer said they're arriving in Windows B&M Stores next month, so I'm thinking about toughing it out and hopefully they'll be cheaper? I don't really know, but hopefully!

if i recall correctly the only w7p on Verizon was announced at the last MWC .

AT&T normaly announces and releases phones whenever

Sprint normaly likes to put stuff out in the fall

Verizon seems to like late winter /early spring and the fall to release

If it's cheap enough I might get one as back-up phone. Microsoft store usually do promotion so may be they will have one for Windows Phone.

I never have CDMA phone, since it's sim-less, how do you get on Verizons network with unlock phone? (or can you?) And if you can why doesn't Microsoft just released Lumia with CDMA and sell it off contract. Google did it for many years when Android was new and lack subsidy.

I didn't think they are grandfathering true 4G. If they are ill get this puppy day 1 or maybe the Titan 2.
