I didn't think they are grandfathering true 4G. If they are ill get this puppy day 1 or maybe the Titan 2.

I have grandfathered, unlimited*, LTE on my account

*unlimited being 10238976 MB...that's what it says

If I buy an HTC Trophy, unlocked, off of Amazon or something, will that be able to be activated on Verizon's network?

Doesn't Verizon already carry the trophy? It wouldn't be unlocked, you're simply paying off contract for a device they already have

Again, Verizon uses a CDMA network. CDMA is not compatible with normal GSM phones. If you saw that phone on Amazon, make absolutely sure it's the CDMA version and not some imported GSM Trophy from Europe.

For AT&T, is there a way to grandfather unlimited 3G for LTE?

AT&T unlimited is pretty damn useless when you consider they started harassing me for going just over 2 gigs of data, putting me in the top X% of users with a threat of throttling.

That said, I wasn't under the impression that the data plans were 3G or 4G specific. I figured it'd just carry over.

wait they actually call you and tell you this?

re: unlocked Lumia 800s at Microsoft stores:

Yesterday, it was revealed that the Nokia Lumia 800 will be sold here in the US through Microsoft's growing chain of stores as well as online. Since there are no plans for any US carriers to sell the 800, buying it unlocked through Microsoft is really the only way consumers here can grab that phone.

The big question everyone has was what GSM bands would this feature? We just met with Microsoft and Nokia and figured we'd ask. Turns out, it will be optimized for AT&T, which depending on your current carrier (and loyalty) is good or bad news. Here are the bands it will support:

WCDMA/HSPA+: 850/1900/2100
GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900

No details on exact release dates but we're probably looking at just a few weeks at both Microsoft Stores and their online market. It should be a pretty good score though for those who want the smaller Lumia as the 900 can be quite large for small hands.

Can't say I'm surprised, but I did have a glimmer of hope for us T-Mobile folks, haha. Now if only they would announce pricing and colors!

Awesome news...seems like even though it's not "really" coming out for the US, it'll still be officially sold and supported. I don't get why everyone in that blog thread is saying it'll be more expensive than the 900 subsidized though...go prepaid...

ATT doesn't have any plans w/data that save your money by bringing your own phone.

12-1 victory by windows phone. dude's are getting shamed.

†Smartphone users must purchase a data package to use data services with any plan. Pay-per-use is not available with smartphones.

Yea...the data packages are:

$5 for 10 MB
$15 for 100 MB
$25 for 500 MB

+

200 messages $4.99/month
1000 messages $9.99/month
Unlimited $19.99/month

=

$20 bucks for the cheapest one (well, $10 for 10mb). The cheapest contract plan starts at $40 for nothing but voice.

Ben tweeted that an android blogger took the test but ran away before his prize. probably knew he was going to be made a fool of.

can't wait to see the video of all this.

Ben the PC Guy said:
#smokedbywindowsphone wins against Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 4 and 4s, & others. Loss against iPhone 4s posting pic to twitter...by a hair.

You know, this holds true in my day-to-day. My co-worker has a 4S and for everyday things I get stuff done faster on my phone. People who see the interface as all style and no substance need to spend some time with it. It really is finely tuned for the common tasks.

Why don't they do commercials of this?

Like the Pepsi challenge. I don't know if it worked for Pepsi or not but at least everyone knows of those commercials, and unlike a taste test you can actually see the speed test happening and concrete results.

yea, miles ahead of the "really?" campaign and essentially the same point

$45, you can't data/text without getting their basic voice $25 plan.

Where does it say that?

Data Feature Packages

Access the Web, email, social networks, and more! Add to your GoPhone 10¢/Minute Plan, $25 Monthly Plan, or $2/Daily Unlimited Plan. Smartphone users must purchase a data package with any plan to use data services on their device.

Text and data are add-ons to plans. I'm not sure if they offer standalone data sims but those aren't typicall tied to a phone number and you can't pair it with text add-ons.

That's just how telco's roll.

A voice plan is required on all voice-capable Devices, unless specifically noted otherwise in the terms governing your plan.

I've tried before, albeit a few years ago. Give them a call and try to get just text and data, they won't do it.

Lost to this dude with a iPhone 4S.
Well whats important to note that this entire challenge is on specific tasks. And so you have to point out that they lost to an iPhone4S on taking a picture and tweeting it. Because they did beat iPhones4S on other tasks.

This is a practical tasks based compaign.

Yeah, and apparently he was just barely beaten. Beat other 4S's in the same day, though.

You do bundle it with a voice plan. It's 10c/min.

You get:
$15 - 100mb data
$5 - 200 messages
10c/min - voice
---------
$20 + 10c/min voice

I'm doing this now on T-Mobile, except with unlimited text. Prepaid is almost always cheaper than post-paid, even with the subsidized phone. I actually don't know why anyone does 2 year contracts.

Republic Wireless makes that look like robbery.

Unfortunately, their phone sucks.

Round and round we go.

T-Mo allows its, yes, that's also why t-mo is going under.
