Windows Phone 8.1 |OT| Update 1

I just wish Microsoft would give us a target date or anything really, for new devices. I really need a new phone, and would be good to know if they're coming "soon". Then I can get a 530 just to have a phone for a while, if it's "very soon" I'll stick with my shattered 1020, if it's "not too soon" I'll get an Android.

I'd love an Android port of the WP keyboard. Swiftkey is good, but whenever I get to type on the WP keyboard, it immediately feels so much better.

It feels like Windows Phone is not growing at all. It looked good around the end of 8.0 and the 8.1 launch, but it hasn't made any strides after that. It's been around the 10% mark in Europe for a while now, while staying relatively the same in the other markets. It still can't crack the 5% in the US, Japan is obviously dead as ever, much like China. The only thing that surprises me is the relatively huge drop off in Spain. I thought the market share there was similar to Italy.
E: Nope, Spain has always been Android land.

Spain's progression is kinda shit, though. From rivaling iOS to fending itself from Blackberry.
Yesterday I was riding the tram when I heard a Windows Phone notification. I checked my phone, only to discover that it was other person not so far away from me. We both took a surprised look at each other before smiling and carrying on with our business. It was like spotting a unicorn or a double rainbow.
Nowhere close to the revenues though of iOS. I can't imagine Microsoft is making much money if any. That's the important bit.

It'd be better than no app. I've come across numerous people who won't give WP a look because it doesn't have it. In the teen/early 20s demographic it's an essential app.
I think the first step is new, desirable hardware.
While making a massive push for apps at the same time for W10. If they think that the W10 store can succeed without mobile they are very, very wrong.
The moment they ditch phone is the moment they ditch any chance of getting app developers on board.

The numbers have no meaning except to Microsoft. When people ask what model phone I have they can never remember the number. It has no wow. What the F is a 1020 or 1520 to someone?

Maybe Lumia should be their "Galaxy" flagship only and get updated accordingly Lumia 6 then grow it from there... the rest of the line just invent catchy names. Keep internal numbers for us and themselves...

I'm of the opinion that they should simplify their offer to 3 phones (normal and XL variants), so they have at least one product for each market tier. This deluge of numbered devices is not making any favors to the ecosystem.

Is 3 enough to cover it, though? I mean, being a big deal in the developing world seems silly now, but being able to support ALL markets could be huge in a decade or so.
I think they need more than three but it needs to be more clear.
Maybe find a word in the Finnish alphabet after Lumia and that be the particular line.

Maybe 8 phones (4 normal sized and XL variants) would be the sweet spot, covering ultra low, low, mid, and high tier. But they need to overhaul the naming scheme, as its current form lends itself to confusion. I know that the Windows Phone ecosystem is it most successful in the low bracket, but I don't see the need for so many devices.
I see a rebranding around the successors of the 435, 640 (XL), 830 and 930 working. And getting rid of the numbering scheme would be great, as it stands as a relic of the Nokia system of old that doesn't quite work as well in a world of a hero phone (think iPhone or Galaxy S) marketing.
Yeah, that would make a lot of sense.

Sounds good. But don't forget the dual sim version for each phone. And the versions of the low end phones for India, with slight alterations.

And the LTE versions, so just like the 640 XL you can have dual SIM and single SIM versions with LTE and 3G. Because that makes sense.
