Does it have to be through AT&T? If not you can get a better deal through Amazon for off contract pricing. You could also go the used route through the ebay/craigslist/forums etc...
Amazon has the Focus Flash for $250 off contract. I doubt you'll get a phone cheaper off contract anywhere unless you go used. Your best bet is to buy that used Zune HD someone posted above.
PS: Man someone like this person is the perfect candidate for the WP Challenge, but without stores everywhere and the must trade in a smart phone line MS is leaving out a potential customer.

Its pretty dumb that I can't flick through images in the Bing search app. After viewing an image, I have to back out and select the next one.
Also pretty dumb that I can't save an image from there...

Both of these things annoy me. It also makes it useless to try and find good lock screen wallpaper this way too.
I like using wallpapers from the Windows Phone Insider app.
I searched for it manually in the marketplace and I can't find it either now! Whhhhaaaat

Oh I get that there are good apps, but still doesn't excuse the fact that you can't use the bing pic search to find good lock screen wallpaper.
Weird. I found it no problem. (Canadian marketplace).

It came back. Just downloaded the update.

After taking a nice tour of the big update, I'm still partial to Carbon or Mehdoh, frankly both are still better designed even though rowi did make some decent strides in UI and navigation.
Awesome. I liked the trial so I'm waiting to give them my $0.99.
I don't like the way mehdoh does scrolling. Like if you flick scroll, you can't tap a spot to stop.

You and I must have different versions of mehdoh, as scrolling stops if I tap the screen anywhere.
Unless I'm misinterpreting your description of your preferred behaviour
at least i think it was mehdoh. or was it the v1.5 of rowi? i remember not liking one of them because of that odd behavior.
there's too many twitter apps and it's absurd for me to have two (or even 3 of them) installed, and yet i do. lol

Next week, after my wife gets her Lumia 900, I'll sell her Quantum. If you still need a phone then, I'll go lower than eBay to help a fellow gaffer out.
Maybe its just me, but rowi still has a tough time saving my spot where I left off. I do like the little highlighted bars off to the side that disappears when you scroll marking each tweet as read. Nice touch. But Carbon's pictures showing up within the feed and overall tackling the barriers of links to sites/pictures still gives it the edge for me. The only thing I still don't like about Carbon is they only allow 100 tweets on a refresh, but they have said they're planning on upping it on the next update so it's still my main driver.
Another note, this site was leaked(via MS_Nerd): http://www.freetimemachine.com looks like it's another tie in to Nokia's ad campaign. It's just a splash page right now, but the message appears to be, hey with Windows Phones, its a time machine in your pocket, saves you time by doing things faster. At least if pulled off, is a better way of saying it than the Really ads.

Mehdoh works fine for my needs right now too. I know it's only a couple bucks for some of the other clients, but I fell like I don't use twitter enough to need something more than Mehdoh can provide me for free even if they might be better.

Seriously, I agree with less and less of what they write lately.
^WTF on The Verge review? Now all of the sudden, after all the glowing reviews of the OS, it sucks all of the sudden.
According to Engadget's benchmarks, the Titan still has the best performance.
Who said it sucks? You're taking the reviews a bit too seriously.

Sucks is strong, but reviewers have been really strong on the OS lately, and now there is a ton of issues with it apparently.
well it does have issues still. And the biggest one is lack of muticore support because of Windows CE.
Josh's complaints are valid. I've made the same points before and a few in here agreed with me. He didn't say the OS sucked--just that there are real issues almost two years later that still need to be solved.
The Verge review is pretty harsh. I read that one first, and was pleasantly surprised by how positive the others sounded after that one.
At this point, I really don't have a clue whether it will be a success. Judged against the One X, it really seems to be a year or more behind. But when you factor in the price and looks, maybe there's still a chance. I'm hoping for the best, cause I'd actually like to stay with Nokia/WP after my Lumia 800.

I think what Josh is trying to say is that Microsoft is farther behind now than they were 6 months ago. Mango is great, but it isn't enough to put Microsoft on-par with the other platforms.
Android no longer feels like a clunky mess to him and windows phone doesn't have the apps or flexibility of that platform.
I will say, though.. I disagree with his point about multitasking..
The only OS that is doing multitasking the way it should be done is Android. Switching apps in iOS is jarring.. switching apps in windows phone is also jarring.. Not enough applications have been updated to support proper suspend and resume, too many apps have poor scrolling performance or just aren't written well.. and against Microsoft's own apps on the phone, the differences are painfully obvious.
I still love windows phone, and I will be leaving my galaxy nexus behind for the lumia 900.. but I am hoping that Microsoft can turn things around with Windows Phone 8.. and give developers more flexibility to write the kinds of apps that people want to have.
There are a number of things I would address before multicore support. That's no where close to the biggest issue.
Doubt consumers will notice any issues with the OS. Just needs to be a nice smooth experience. Which it is. Coupled with a beautiful device. Only issues consumers will have is the lack of Angry Birds Space and Draw Something.

On WP7 wallpapers, the cool thing about being into photography is that you can make your own wallpapers. Currently using this as my lockscreens background...

I don't and it's been my main complaint with the platform, as many should know here by now. iOS doesn't limit you to 5 apps in the background and developers get more background agents like VoIP and location services. You can also start an app from anywhere and still have it load what's in memory, unlike WP7. Sometimes I do get splash screens on iOS, but it's not nearly as common as it is on my Focus. Multitasking is far less jarring on iOS because of this.

The biggest problem is the browser. You either get fundamentals like the browser right or you go home. Consumers will notice when the browser is bad and their friend's phone has a browser which isn't. Blackberry has had the same problem for years. The browser gets so much criticism and MS just stands around and does nothing about it.
Yep. A lot of developers have not recompiled and resubmitted their apps after Mango. Which is all it takes to have fast resume enabled. And yes more background agents are definitely needed. I've never had an issue with only 5 apps in tombstone state though. They probably should have just let you have as many as RAM allowed and dropped them when needed.
Only issue I have with the browser is the lack of a search function. Really don't understand that. Other than that, pretty nice experience for me. As I am sure it will be for the majority of people out there.

Ironically, IE 9 in mango can do some things that Safari in iOS cannot do.. like highlight spoiler text.
It does need work, though.

And with a hardware as beautiful as the Lumia 800 and 900 its a shame that a lot of whats keeping them away from perfection is the very nature of the actual version of WP, so yes, we really need Apollo now and we need it to be all that we expect from it.

Definitely glad they hide those things away in the application bar. Don't need a bunch of icons cluttering up my screen. One of my favorite things about WP. Content is first. Also glad that battery status and signal strength and such are hidden away until wanted as well. Some people would disagree with such things though. Would rather have the url bar hidden until needed as well.
Forward button functionality is there in the "Recent" option if it is needed. Not sure a dedicated button would be needed otherwise. Perhaps that is another thing I disagree with.

The Lumina 900 Q/A at the Verge is so good. I've never seen irrational thinking so vividly on display. Fuck work tomorrow, this is too good to pass up!
