Rules
All games will be 10 minutes in length, with all other options (including weather, condition, etc.) at the online default unless specified otherwise below.
The Group Stage:
The first stage will be a group stage with four groups of four teams. This stage has a round-robin format, meaning that every team will play every other team within the group at the players' convenience (that is, players can play games in any order and even play all three group stage games in the same day if they wish and if it's possible with their groupmates) for a total of three group games for every team. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and none for a loss.
All games in the group stage will be played with no extra time and no penalty kicks.
Winners must report to me BY POSTING IN THIS THREAD the exact match score (e.g., France 3 Ireland 0) immediately upon completion of their games. All standings will be updated in this post throughout the course of the tournament.
Knockout Stage (Playoffs):
The two teams with the most points in each group after the group stage will advance to the knockout stage. Tiebreakers will be head-to-head, goal differential, and golden goal, PK playoff in the last event. In the knockout stage, teams play each other in one-off matches, with Golden Goal extra time and penalty shootouts on. Again, each winner shall report the result by posting in this thread.
At the end of the knockout stage, one WE champ will receive a nice shiny World Cup GIF posted here and bragging rights until at least the next tournament.
Disconnects:
In the Group Stage, in the event of a disconnect (note: I've been disconnected twice in games I was winning and stuck with 0-3 losses as a result, so it certainly can happen unintentionally) the game should be reported as whatever the score is at that time unless both players agree to replay the game (e.g., if it happens early on). Players may also replay a game continuing a score, but only if the disconnect occurred in the first half and the goal differential was no greater than 2 (e.g., someone is winning 1-0 and the game disconns five minutes in, the two players replay an entire game and it ends 0-0, the score reported should be 1-0), players may however replay ANY disconnect without score continuation if they both agree.
Also, Lobby 3 is the official GAF lobby. No real need to play here but it would be fun if GAFFERS did so people can check in on match results real-time if they like. Default Password(if necessary) is gasoccer.
2/13 Rules Amendments
I. Playoff Seeding- The playoffs will be seeded with the top team from Group A playing the second place team from Group B and so forth.
II. Best Effort Requirement- It is very important that players try their hardest in every game. Since there are no carryover injuries or cards, there is absolutely no excuse for not playing your best regardless of if you are 0-2 or 2-0, as mailing it in could have an unfair impact on others in your group, and in a worst-case scenario keep someone out of the playoffs. So play hard in every game. This doesnt mean that an 0-4 result means someone didnt put in effort, so dont worry about results, just play your best.
